Calling a losing streak "variance" is the ultimate intellectual cope for bettors who mistake a theoretical edge for guaranteed profit. It’s a polished reminder that math doesn't pay the bills when your sample size is too small to survive reality.

Using +EV Betting Against Casino Kiosks - SharpMoney Sports BettingAdded:
Today we're doing something different.
I'm heading to my local casino and I'm going to use the Sharp Money Plus EV app to bet through kiosk to see how much money I can make. I got a few thousand dollars of some old sports betting tickets that I've used a long time ago there. I'm going to stop at the bank and grab some more money. We're going to see how much money I can actually get down on these kiosk, what the limits are, and you know, if I'm going to be profitable or not. We can track our expected value versus our actual value and I really want to see that, you know, this experiment if it's worth me going to a casino or a kiosk long term to make money. Now, if you're someone like myself who's been limited on many different sports books, hitting a kiosk sounds like a great way to make extra money. But is it worth all of the headaches?
All right, so I'm leaving the house now.
It's about 7:00. Uh, it's about an hour and 15 minute drive to the casino, so probably get there around 8:30. Got to stop at the bank as well.
Uh, the one cool thing about this casino is I'm from Massachusetts and we have a ton of online uh, retail sports books, but it does not have uh, the book that I'm going to has an online retail option.
So, it's going to actually provide me another out. Uh, it's a BetRivers sports book, which I believe they use Kambi odds, so the the odds [music] are terrible. So, um, I'm not I'm only I'm also going to be able to, you know, bet on my phone and hit DraftKings, FanDuel, um, you know, Novibet, Profit Edge, all those as well with being able to hit the kiosk [music] uh, for BetRivers. So, uh, included in this video will be all the bets that I place while I'm at the casino, even if it's not through a kiosk. [music] We'll track how the whole day goes and see what happens.
All right, just [music] pulled into the parking garage here. This place is empty. It's a really small casino uh, down Plainridge, uh, Massachusetts.
Uh, so, >> [music] >> I got my money.
I got my tickets. I'm going to go and cash them in, go look for some plays.
Trying to be [music] as discreet as I can. I don't want to make it too obvious that I'm an advantage player, but I've been here a few times. Um been here with the Arbfather as well, and he hits this casino quite often without [music] us trying to mask what we're doing too much. Um so, not too worried about anyone saying something to me. Key is not to cash [music] your tickets in and just keep keep scanning them and keep adding to the same ticket so that you don't cash in thousands of dollars at once. So, we'll see what happens.
Uh excited to go in here and and see what we [music] can do and see how much money we can get down.
So, we'll see if it's worth this hour and 20-minute trip out here. Uh not a bad trip though. It's a good day to be at the casino [music] as well. We got a little little overcast and some rain.
And I spent, you know, the whole the whole ride up here catching up on [music] some some podcasts. I was listening to Inside Prediction Markets by uh Flop [music] and and Henry there at Novig. Um listened to the one with with Jacob on it as well, the CEO there. [music] So, got the brain going already, thinking about market making, things like that.
So, check out their podcast and their videos if you're looking for some some good knowledge. All [music] right, so let's head in, see what happens.
All right, so just got back to my car. I was in there for about 2 and 1/2 hours.
Uh got down probably a couple thousand dollars of slips. I only have about 500 left. I think I brought about 3,200 with me. Um I was only able to withdraw 1,000 from my my bank um [music] through the ATM, so that kind of sucked.
I was hoping to have a little bit more money. Uh but it looks like I'm going to play through yeah, 32 [music] 3,500 pretty easily here.
Uh and limits are really [music] good. I was pretty much max betting like a couple hundred dollars on uh pretty much [music] every bet and I had no problem getting money down on spreads and totals for for the MLB.
Hit a bunch of WNBA player props for uh you know, like a hundred [music] 125 bucks was kind of the max there. Um some hitter props for MLB were you know, $50 bets. [music] Um hit a little bit of tennis. We hit some MLB pitching props that [music] weren't too bad. So, overall pretty good. Uh the first hour I was in there probably from 8:30 to 9:30, it was dead. Like I had like two bets. I was like, what am I going to do the rest of the time here?
>> [music] >> Um but I ended up, you know, Pinnacle ended up releasing their odds for a lot of the player props. Um so, I found some good [music] value when Pinnacle dropped their lines. So, I just got some good openers uh and caught some early movement for for the player prop markets.
>> [music] >> Uh WNBA season just started.
Uh so, I'm curious to see how these bets >> [music] >> look. Uh but my method here was using FanDuel and Pinnacle as a source of reference on [music] the app. That was my custom devig. So, I feel good getting good value to Pinnacle and FanDuel on these WNBA player props.
Uh but right now I'm going to go I'm going to grab my computer. I'm going to head back in. I'm going to place some bets uh probably on the other retail books like FanDuel, [music] DraftKings, um No Vig, and stuff like that. Try to find some plays uh because I've exhausted, [music] you know, a lot of the the BetRivers plays so far. Uh so, the next hour I'm going to go in there with my computer, sit down, have a coffee, >> [music] >> and place some more bets on the retail books. Like I said, I only have like $500 cash left. Um, >> [music] >> then I'll probably come back, grab lunch, and finish up the day and get the rest of that money out there. So, >> [music] >> uh, it's going good so far and, you know, I'll watch you uh, let you know how it goes.
All right, back to the car again. I'm dropping my computer off. Uh, I didn't really actually place that many bets. I I threw together, you know, PrizePicks slip, uh, a couple of straight bets on like BetOnline, uh, but [music] the board is dry. If I wasn't at this casino hitting BetRivers lines right now, I'd have like almost no money down. Uh, but with that being said, I actually hit a few more. Um, now I'm at like 30-something tickets, I think, and I have at $3,300 down right now. Now, I'm not max betting everything. Uh, I'm max betting most of the player props, but even some of the pitcher Ks, >> [music] >> um, if the if the prop is for an over, the the kiosk will take more money. So, like I'm able to get a couple hundred dollars down on a pitcher's overs, but if I bet their unders, it's like my like a $125 max bet. Uh, obviously, they just cater to the recreational [music] better. Um, you know, most people are going to bet the overs and you most of the time, you know, the edge isn't on the over.
So, they let the regs bet a little bit higher here. So, finding edges on overs are are great because you're able to bet more. [music] But in terms of like hitting the limits, you know, I only have like I actually have like $3,500 cash. Um, so [music] I wasn't going to go in there and bet $1,000 a play. That I mean, that's over my unit size anyway. Um, >> [music] >> but if I was able to really max all the main lines, I could probably get I don't know, $7,000 down right now if I doubled all my bets. That's what I'm guessing.
So, we're at about $3,300 down.
Um, I actually took $100 to to actually just gamble with and have a little bit fun while I'm out here. Definitely negative EV move if you're if you're trying to make money going to a kiosk, touching a table game or or slot machine is not a good idea at all.
Anyway, I love these little crap machines, little uh, dice machines that, you know, you hit the button and and it pops the dice. I love those things. I've always had good luck. And threw $100 in there, doubled it, so turned it into 200. So, now I'm about to go grab lunch.
It's kind of paid for.
Um, so I have 200 extra dollars that I didn't think I was going to have. And I'll probably hit one or two more plays on the way out the door after lunch.
[music] But right now it feels good.
We'll see what happens once we tally all these bets up and see the results.
All right, I'm about to take off. Uh, last little recap here. Final count on how much money I was able to get down.
$3,402.50.
Uh, I was able to throw another $100 on another MLB player prop. Uh, after my lunch, it was a great lunch by the way. Restaurant's [music] great.
Burger was good.
Um, I had a $200 ticket for the uh, the the craps game I was playing.
Didn't see any bets on the board right after lunch. So, I was like, "Ah, screw it. We'll throw it in the craps machine again." Lost it back down to that original 100. Actually 101. So, I cashed out $1 profitable in terms of actual gambling today. Hopefully the plus EV plays pay out. [music] Uh, but you know, just reflecting on this trip, this is kind of an experiment to see >> [music] >> if this is worth my time coming out and maybe doing these these kiosk runs.
So, I was here from I don't know, like 9:00 to 9:00 to 12:00 [music] roughly.
So, only 3 4 hours total if I you know, throw this into a day, 3 4 [music] hours. First hour was almost a waste, so I could probably be here 3 hours and definitely get down [music] the money I need to get down.
Um but in terms of expected [music] value on my 3,400 you know, if you're talking about a 3% edge on all of my bets uh we're talking about barely like you know, a little over $100 of expected value. Now, hopefully my actual value is you know, hundreds of [music] dollars.
We'll see, it could easily end up down.
That's part of plus EV betting. But I think in terms of making it worth my time driving out here you know, gas counts. You know, I'm buying >> [music] >> a lunch when I'm out here. Probably need to get down close to 10 grand really.
Probably have 3 400 dollars in expected value to make these trips worth my time.
But like I said, this is kind of an experiment to feel it out. [music] Think I could get 10 grand down if I had some more money.
So, you know, this is experimental trip.
Got 3,400 here. [music] Hopefully turns into maybe 4 grand would be nice. Maybe it goes down. But anyway, maybe I'll just keep doing this [music] once a month. Kind of roll my my profits and see what we can scale up to until it's worth my time coming back every time.
But I'm kind of stuck coming back here because I keep adding more tickets and I got to come [music] back to cash them. So, we'll see. So we'll see what happens. Got a ton of open bets. And I think next screen I'll [music] probably be looking at the results and see how we did.
All right, we're back in the office.
It's the next day. So, I have all of my bets right here. I got them all graded already and we're ready to go through the results. So, I ended up with 28 total bets at the kiosk, getting down $3,402.
And then I also had I only had seven bets on the retail sports books on my uh other accounts.
Uh so, we'll go over that. So, the way I set this up was my smaller bets first to my bigger bets. So, we're going to go one by one and kind of see the results on how we did here.
So, first bet we had uh Kyle Harrison over 15 and 1/2 outs, and unfortunately, he ended at 15.
That was a $50 wager there. So, that was one of our smaller wagers.
Not a huge deal. We start the day um 0 and 1 down $50. So, second one up here, uh we had Ramos over 1 and 1/2 total bases here, and we lost that one as well. That was a $53.24 wager. So, 0 for 2 to start. Um two player props, not great. Uh one thing I want to do is through a couple of these winners, I'll show you exactly why I like the play and why I took it.
Um but let's move on to the third one.
Like I said, we're going to scale up, and you know, these are the smaller bets I got limited on. So, a lot of these earlier ones are only $50 to $100, and then by the end of the video, it's $200 bets, and you know, those are the ones that we need to hit. So, losing a few of these early ones not too big of a deal, but we don't want to go too cold.
Uh with that being said, we have uh Carlos Cortez over 1 and 1/2 bases.
That also did not come through. So, we're 0 for 3 to start.
Uh that was a $58.57 uh cur- current total is 0 and 3, minus $161.81.
Next up, we have Young Ho Lee over 1 and 1/2 bases. This one did cash. We got a first cash on the board. Uh this was plus $87.86 in profit, moving us to one and three, and our total total profit and loss moves to negative $73.95.
Funny, uh this guy actually hit an inside-the-park home run to clear his over one and a half bases, so he easily covered it. So, that was good.
A lot of these uh early ones are the hitter props. So, we have Dylan Lyle over one and a half total bases.
This was a $59.36 bet. This one also lost. So, this puts us at one and four now. Uh we really need a win on the board. We're down negative $133 total.
Next up, we have Mason Wynn over one and a half bases. This was 60 uh dollar bet and ended up cashing. So, it paid out $87.86 in profit, uh putting us to two and four.
And total profit and loss down to only minus $45.45. So, not bad here.
Uh payouts are starting to get a little bit bigger, wagers are starting to get a little bit bigger. So, we're up to This was an $81.35 wager on Foster Griffin under four and a half Ks.
Pretty sure he had um like seven or eight, he kind of went off. So, that one was a loss as well.
Uh that's going to put us at two and five, minus $126.80.
Next up, we have a $95 wager on Zavier Matthews.
And this one lost as well. $95, we lost that one. Move to two and six.
Minus $222.30 on the trip so far. Eight bets in, two and six, not not looking good.
Uh we need some some wins here for sure.
Uh we have Ben Brown under three and a half strike outs for $99.94 or $0.84. That's a loss as well. We're moving to two and seven here. Minus $322.
14 cents. Okay, now we're on to $100 plus wagers.
We have the Milwaukee Brewers and the Padres under seven and a half runs.
That one did not hit as well. We're moving to two and eight.
Down $422.
Next up we have Mets Tigers. I would I would These are all early games. Mets we had Tigers minus one here. Pretty sure they got blown out. That was a $100 wager.
Also lost. So that is moving to two and nine.
Down $522.
Two and nine. Not not a good start at all. But we have those big wagers coming up. So hopefully we can turn it around.
Next up Jeff McNeil over one and a half bases for $100.
Take a wild guess.
That one lost.
Two and 10. Minus $622.
So player props mostly so far. I've not treated this well at all.
All right, next up here we got a we got a good one. We got Cubs minus one. And they were playing the Braves. So they were actually underdogs. So we got this at plus 205 odds. So even $100 wager turned into $205 in profit, which we desperately needed here. Um so we're moving to three and 10. And total profit and loss is minus $417.
We're trying to get back to striking distance here to to profitability.
Next up, we have WNBA player prop. Uh Uh Jones here over eight and a half rebounds it looks like I had.
And that was $88 of profit. So, that's going to move us to four and 10 minus $329 overall.
Next up, $125 on the Tigers plus one.
That one did not cash.
So, that moves us to a four and 11 minus $450.
WNBA action, Wings minus five and a half. Another $125 bet also lost moving us to four and 12 minus $579.
Uh this one was a big one for us.
Dodgers minus two and a half. I had $125 on that. That was that was a juicy one.
So, the profit there was actually $243.75.
So, that was a big one to win. A little extra money and we got the extra payout.
Uh so, moving our record to four and 13 minus $335. So, we're still close.
We're not that far away for having such an awful record. We're four and 10 only minus $329.
So, not too bad.
Next up, we have Pirates and Rockies under seven for $150. Wagers are starting to get a little bit bigger here. Uh that one is a loss minus uh $150. So, four and 14 total P&L is up to -485 dollars.
Astros and Mariners under eight runs.
That was also a $150 wager. That one lost as well. So, 4 and 15 right now.
Minus $630.
I hit pretty much every single under on the board. It seemed like I was getting good value across all these unders and every game went over. It was wild.
All right, next [clears throat] up we have WNBA player prop over 17 and 1/2 points.
Uh this was a $151 wager, which isn't bad for NBA player prop.
Um $151.48 and it lost. So, we are on a bad losing streak with these bigger tickets. 4 and 16 record right now. Negative negative $786 so far.
And that's 20 bets in. So, 20 bets in we're 4 and 16.
Uh negative $786.
Not ideal here.
But we got some big tickets coming. They could either go against us or we could finally get back to profitable here.
All right, next up we do have a winner.
We got Dodgers Giants.
This was a $157 wager that paid out. So, profits were plus 160.
Moving us to 5 and 16.
And minus $626.
Uh Nolan McLean over 6 and 1/2 Ks. You got $200 on this player prop, this pitching prop over. Like I said, the overs I was able to get some more money down. So, this was $180 in profit. So, 6 and 16.
Minus 400 and $46 right now.
Not bad.
Also, we have Kyle Hendricks and Harrison over 5 and 1/2 strikeouts. Also was able to get $200 out on this over pitching prop. So that this was huge.
Um and this is three wins in a row. So we are at 7 and 16 total record and only minus $284.
So now we have a handful of tickets left and these are all $200.
So we have the Reds and the Nationals under seven runs for $200 exactly. That one was a loss moving us to 7 and 17 minus $484.
Another $200 tickets. We had Cardinals and Athletics $200 at over 10. That one was a loser as well. 7 and 18 minus $684.
Braves minus 1 and 1/2.
Also lost that one for $200. So 7 and 19 minus $884.73.
Now you might ask yourself why did you have a ticket on the Braves and the Cubs?
Um honestly earlier in the day I saw some quick action. I saw some quick action on Cubs. Uh placed a bet and then the line reversed. So I ended up grabbing the Braves. Uh the Braves is the one that closed with really good closing line value. Braves is the one that lost. This is how it's how it's going today.
The closing line has not been paying out today.
And uh this is our last $200 ticket. So we've lost all three so far.
And this was under eight runs Tigers Mets.
Also lost. So we lost every single uh main line $200 ticket.
Moving our record to 7 and 20.
7 and 20 20 uh minus $1,084.
Luckily this morning we had one more opportunity, Casper Ruud.
Uh had him and he paid out he he won, covered plus $131.79, putting our total record at 8 and 20.
And then total profit loss at minus $952.94.
So, very, very ugly results. Uh I was on some great plays, felt really good about it. Also placed a few bets on pick it.
We ended up going three and four on pick it, plus $155.
So, total damage at the end of the day for for yesterday's betting endeavor was minus $796.96, which honestly feels pretty good with how terrible my luck was going 8 and 20 at the kiosk when I had some great value on every single bet. Um so, those numbers right there, that correlate to a -23.4% ROI on that trip. Terrible, terrible, terrible. Uh my expected value I usually can run at a little over 3% expected value on every dollar I bet. My expected value was $102.
My actual value was -796.
So, we had close to a $900 difference between expected and actual. Uh my starting bankroll was $3,402.
With those losses, we are now at uh $2,605.
So, So, a couple things here. Uh overall recapping the trip and making this video, I actually enjoyed it a lot. It was good to get out uh and and actually get your you know, your hand on some real money. You don't get to actually do that a lot when you're sports betting.
It's it's all digital, so it's nice to actually have some money in your hand, get some tickets. I do like that aspect of it. Uh building this video was fun.
The whole process was good. I wish it was uh a profitable endeavor, but unfortunately, things did not go our way, which happens. I mean, when you're only placing a couple dozen bets, you know, you're you're at the mercy of variance. Now, you know, long-term, you know, I'm pulling out my chart right here, made $67,000 over the last couple of years with, you know, over 40,000 bets. So, using sample sizes of, you know, 50 to to 100 bets is pretty much useless, but it's fun for this video.
It's fun for this experiment, and hopefully you we can do this again next time. Um you know, I'm really looking for some feedback here in in the comments if you like the style of video because this is this is definitely different. This is something I normally don't do. Uh it does take up a lot of time to do, so I I although I think I can be, you know, I can be profitable long-term, it's still borderline worth worth the efforts of of putting uh all that time into it. But, if this is something you guys like, please leave a comment. Like, let me know to keep running these videos. Maybe it's something we'll do monthly if I get good feedback from this. Um I'd like to go back monthly, you know, I I feel like there's a lot left on the table.
Probably bring some more money next time, and and hopefully can make up for it. So, um if you're, you know, interested in joining the community, the sharp money community, uh those links will be down below as well. Uh if you're looking to get a hold of me, I got Twitter. I'm on Discord all time, so definitely reach out if you got questions about profitable sports betting. Not a good example uh of the kiosk betting, but long-term profitable better, and uh willing to help you guys in any way possible to make money, and you know, make money doing something you love. I always kind of say if if you're going to have a hobby, get a hobby that makes you money. So, sports betting is perfect for me.
And making content is perfect. So, all right, appreciate you guys watching.
Uh don't forget to subscribe, and I will see you on the next one.
