The Monopole Mistake Killing Your Signal

[00:00:10]A monopole antenna is only half the antenna. The other half is the ground.

[00:00:18]Think of it like this. The vertical element sends the signal out, and the ground completes the system. If the ground is poor, your antenna can't work properly.

[00:00:32]Without a good ground, energy is lost, radiation is reduced, efficiency drops. So, even though your antenna is connected, it's not performing the way it should.

[00:00:49]Here's what many people do. Mount a monopole with little or no ground plane, no radials, poor mounting surface, and then wonder why the signal is weak, or the range is limited.

[00:01:06]What you want is a good ground plane. A good ground plane can be radials, and it can also be a metal surface.

[00:01:16]Whichever you choose, it has to be a proper mounting structure.

[00:01:22]The better the ground, the better your antenna performs.

[00:01:27]Same antenna, same height, same power.

[00:01:32]The antenna with a poor ground has a weak signal.

[00:01:37]And the one with a good ground has a strong signal.

[00:01:43]So, if your monopole isn't performing, don't just look at the antenna.

[00:01:51]Because your antenna is only half the system.
