According to a national labor market report published by the Gambia Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Regional Integration and Employment, with support from the International Labor Organization and World Bank, Gambia exceeded its employment target by creating 163,000 new jobs between 2023 and 2026, surpassing the government's goal of 150,000 jobs. The report shows the labor force participation rate increased from 43.6% in 2023 to 54.5% in 2026, while the employment-to-population ratio rose from 40.3% to 51.1%. Unemployment decreased from 7.6% to 6.2%, and underemployment dropped from 31.6% to 20.23%, attributed to post-pandemic recovery, investments in key sectors, and structural economic reforms.
