Alabama ice cream shop owner, husband charged with harassing customer over review

[00:00:00]Bayman at business owner and customer are clashing over apparently poor service. The customer left a negative review online after having a bad experience at the ice cream shop. The shop owner says it was an attack on her business. The heated dispute that followed was caught on camera. Haley samples joining us in the studio now.

[00:00:19]>> Yeah, Daniel Smith tells me he went to the grand opening for the local scoop back in March. He was hoping to get a taste of some of his favorite ice cream flavors, but what happens next is far from sweet.

[00:00:32]>> Don't you ever ever worry about the local scoop again, okay?

[00:00:36]>> This is the aftermath after constructive criticism goes wrong. Daniel Smith says he went to try the local scoop in March, the newest ice cream shop in town.

[00:00:47]>> Just didn't have a good experience, so I wrote a bad review.

[00:00:50]>> It's something he does all the time, no matter if the experience was good or bad. Screenshots of his review critiquing the restaurant on its decorations.

[00:01:00]He also says the employees messed up his order.

[00:01:04]>> I didn't think nothing of it until she reminded me of it.

[00:01:07]>> Smith says owner Mallory Smith Goldman has since deleted the post. This week he says the shop's owner tracked him down to confront him on his thoughts. I called the owner for her thoughts. She declined to comment. In the cell phone video, you can hear profanity, insults, and allegations.

[00:01:25]>> I am mad because I have busted my ass at something and you think you're going to run it into the ground.

[00:01:30]>> Obviously, you have mental issues that would cause you to get mad that I left a review on your restaurant, okay?

[00:01:38]>> Okay?

[00:01:39]>> Okay.

[00:01:40]>> The first time it was me. The second time it was the metrics of your business.

[00:01:44]>> I can do whatever I want. I can say whatever I want.

[00:01:46]>> It would be in your best interest not to. Do you understand? It would be in your best You'll find out soon enough.

[00:01:52]>> Towards the end of the 15-minute video, the owner's husband shows up to the scene. The cell phone video shows the owner inching closer to Smith.

[00:02:00]>> She you know she assaulted me, touched my torso three times. She knocked the phone out of my hand and pretty much destroyed the back of it.

[00:02:08]She stomped on it, kicked it under my car.

[00:02:12]>> The business owner Laney White Goldman was arrested Thursday on charges of harassment and criminal mischief. Her husband Ryan Oliver Goldman was also arrested for harassment. The Goldmans have since been released from jail.

[00:02:28]Smith tells me he'll continue to review restaurants in the future. For now he says he's searching for a lawyer to possibly file a civil suit. Reporting live from the studio, I'm Haley Samples WEAR News.
