Before You Retire...Watch This (I Wasn't Prepared)Added:
If you're thinking about retiring, I need to be very honest with you.
I retired without having anything in place.
Sometimes I wish there was someone there to tell me what I was doing right and what I was absolutely doing wrong.
And I'm going to tell you right now if you are not prepared you might run across a lot more stress than you're expecting.
Now, I retired with having a house payment.
And a lot of people on YouTube that follow me know that.
I you know, I'll just I just figured oh, I'll figure things out when I get there.
I'll figure things out when I get there.
And I wasn't really financially in the right spot either when it came to retiring.
Like I said, I'll figure that out when I get there. That is not the way to go into retirement at all.
So, what I want to say is when that work paycheck stops it's a whole different ballgame because you don't get to work any extra amount of time off your paycheck. Say, oh, I'll work this weekend or I'll put in some overtime.
Your Social Security check is what you get.
Plain and simple, that's what you get.
And then you have to live off that.
Now that's something that you have to keep in the back of your head.
I just figured retirement would never come. That was my That was my mindset.
I just thought oh, that's so far off. It will never come, but it does.
Friends, it comes quicker than you think it will.
>> [snorts] >> You know, I wish I was prepared more, but it is what it is now. I wish my thinking process was a little different back then because it will catch up to you real quick.
The first thing is you need to know your numbers. You absolutely need to know your numbers.
You need to know where you're at financially. You have to go over everything.
What's coming in? What's going out?
And make sure you can retire with what's coming in and what is going out.
I did that actually. I did that. And I thought I was good. I went went down the whole sheet. All my bills.
I figured I was good to go.
But there were a lot of other things that I did not did not have in place.
I went over my figures.
I did all that before I started taking Social Security.
But some things you don't think of down the road. So, number one is just first thing just make sure you know all your numbers.
That is very important.
If you have a house make sure it's paid off.
I'm speaking from experience. Mine was not paid off.
Um adding a house payment can put a lot of extra stress on you.
Um a stress that you really don't need in retirement.
And another thing is can you afford to not work?
And what I mean by that is can you afford to completely completely retire without thinking in the back of your head that you have to get a part-time job.
Can you do that?
Or when you retire will you realize I'm going to have to pick up a part-time job? Am I going to have to go back out in the field and make extra money after you collect your Social Security?
Or are you going to be good to go and never have to work?
Will you be prepared that you will never have to say do YouTube like I'm doing?
Do some side hustle like eBay.
A lot of people are doing Uber.
A lot of people are picking up part-time jobs at Lowe's, Menards.
Or are you going to be the one that is going to be so prepared that you will never have to work a day in your life again?
That would be wonderful.
That means you prepared uh very well.
A lot of people run into a lot of unexpected costs.
And I think a lot of people don't factor in that when they retire.
I don't think I did.
You know, you're on a fixed income.
Do you have enough money if you own a home, do you have enough money to fix a roof?
I pray I don't have to get a new roof on my house.
When I bought my house, it was actually, it was 20 years ago.
It was 20 years ago this year.
My roof was 9 months old.
It's 2026 now.
This roof is almost 26 years old. It's It's still doing good.
Oh my gosh, I'm thinking if I need a new roof, I might need to put a for sale sign in front of my house. I don't know.
I don't know that yet.
Um all these things crop up that people don't put in place and think about once they retire.
Wow, I could use six more new windows.
Those are so costly.
I know if you do them all at once, you get a better rate.
But I might have to do one at a time, two at a time. I don't know.
I'm living with it right now, but the thing is when you retire, you have unexpected costs.
Medical.
So, the thing is and I know so many people go into retirement that are extremely prepared. And there are some people, like myself, that were not.
And I hate to say that, but I was not prepared.
Did I go over the numbers? Sure. I went over my numbers, but that's about as far as it went.
Still have a house payment. If you're smart, please get that paid off if you possibly can before you pull the plug on drawing your Social Security.
The thing is, friends, I'm not saying don't retire. Absolutely retire as quick as you can, basically.
I would retire as soon as you possibly can.
If you can afford it, if you are prepared, retire as soon as you can.
You know, retirement should feel like freedom.
Not having so much stress when you retire.
So, if you are not prepared, I don't think you feel like you have as much freedom as if you were prepared.
So, anyways, I just don't want people going into this and doing what I did.
Not being prepared.
I'm not struggling per se, but I'm not where I should have been.
But I'm doing okay. So, anyways, just prepare yourself before you start taking Social Security.
And anyways, friends, if you got anything out of this, drop a couple comments down below. I read them all. And until the next video, I'll see you next time.
Bye now.
