Before You Retire...Watch This (I Wasn't Prepared)

[00:00:00]If you're thinking about retiring, I need to be very honest with you.

[00:00:06]I retired without having anything in place.

[00:00:11]Sometimes I wish there was someone there to tell me what I was doing right and what I was absolutely doing wrong.

[00:00:21]And I'm going to tell you right now if you are not prepared you might run across a lot more stress than you're expecting.

[00:00:34]Now, I retired with having a house payment.

[00:00:42]And a lot of people on YouTube that follow me know that.

[00:00:46]I you know, I'll just I just figured oh, I'll figure things out when I get there.

[00:00:52]I'll figure things out when I get there.

[00:00:54]And I wasn't really financially in the right spot either when it came to retiring.

[00:01:03]Like I said, I'll figure that out when I get there. That is not the way to go into retirement at all.

[00:01:13]So, what I want to say is when that work paycheck stops it's a whole different ballgame because you don't get to work any extra amount of time off your paycheck. Say, oh, I'll work this weekend or I'll put in some overtime.

[00:01:36]Your Social Security check is what you get.

[00:01:41]Plain and simple, that's what you get.

[00:01:43]And then you have to live off that.

[00:01:48]Now that's something that you have to keep in the back of your head.

[00:01:55]I just figured retirement would never come. That was my That was my mindset.

[00:02:03]I just thought oh, that's so far off. It will never come, but it does.

[00:02:10]Friends, it comes quicker than you think it will.

[00:02:14]>> [snorts] >> You know, I wish I was prepared more, but it is what it is now. I wish my thinking process was a little different back then because it will catch up to you real quick.

[00:02:33]The first thing is you need to know your numbers. You absolutely need to know your numbers.

[00:02:41]You need to know where you're at financially. You have to go over everything.

[00:02:47]What's coming in? What's going out?

[00:02:51]And make sure you can retire with what's coming in and what is going out.

[00:03:00]I did that actually. I did that. And I thought I was good. I went went down the whole sheet. All my bills.

[00:03:13]I figured I was good to go.

[00:03:16]But there were a lot of other things that I did not did not have in place.

[00:03:23]I went over my figures.

[00:03:26]I did all that before I started taking Social Security.

[00:03:32]But some things you don't think of down the road. So, number one is just first thing just make sure you know all your numbers.

[00:03:45]That is very important.

[00:03:48]If you have a house make sure it's paid off.

[00:03:55]I'm speaking from experience. Mine was not paid off.

[00:03:59]Um adding a house payment can put a lot of extra stress on you.

[00:04:05]Um a stress that you really don't need in retirement.

[00:04:10]And another thing is can you afford to not work?

[00:04:20]And what I mean by that is can you afford to completely completely retire without thinking in the back of your head that you have to get a part-time job.

[00:04:36]Can you do that?

[00:04:40]Or when you retire will you realize I'm going to have to pick up a part-time job? Am I going to have to go back out in the field and make extra money after you collect your Social Security?

[00:04:57]Or are you going to be good to go and never have to work?

[00:05:03]Will you be prepared that you will never have to say do YouTube like I'm doing?

[00:05:12]Do some side hustle like eBay.

[00:05:17]A lot of people are doing Uber.

[00:05:20]A lot of people are picking up part-time jobs at Lowe's, Menards.

[00:05:28]Or are you going to be the one that is going to be so prepared that you will never have to work a day in your life again?

[00:05:39]That would be wonderful.

[00:05:41]That means you prepared uh very well.

[00:05:46]A lot of people run into a lot of unexpected costs.

[00:05:54]And I think a lot of people don't factor in that when they retire.

[00:06:02]I don't think I did.

[00:06:04]You know, you're on a fixed income.

[00:06:08]Do you have enough money if you own a home, do you have enough money to fix a roof?

[00:06:17]I pray I don't have to get a new roof on my house.

[00:06:22]When I bought my house, it was actually, it was 20 years ago.

[00:06:29]It was 20 years ago this year.

[00:06:32]My roof was 9 months old.

[00:06:37]It's 2026 now.

[00:06:42]This roof is almost 26 years old. It's It's still doing good.

[00:06:48]Oh my gosh, I'm thinking if I need a new roof, I might need to put a for sale sign in front of my house. I don't know.

[00:06:55]I don't know that yet.

[00:06:57]Um all these things crop up that people don't put in place and think about once they retire.

[00:07:09]Wow, I could use six more new windows.

[00:07:14]Those are so costly.

[00:07:17]I know if you do them all at once, you get a better rate.

[00:07:21]But I might have to do one at a time, two at a time. I don't know.

[00:07:26]I'm living with it right now, but the thing is when you retire, you have unexpected costs.

[00:07:35]Medical.

[00:07:39]So, the thing is and I know so many people go into retirement that are extremely prepared. And there are some people, like myself, that were not.

[00:07:56]And I hate to say that, but I was not prepared.

[00:08:01]Did I go over the numbers? Sure. I went over my numbers, but that's about as far as it went.

[00:08:09]Still have a house payment. If you're smart, please get that paid off if you possibly can before you pull the plug on drawing your Social Security.

[00:08:25]The thing is, friends, I'm not saying don't retire. Absolutely retire as quick as you can, basically.

[00:08:36]I would retire as soon as you possibly can.

[00:08:40]If you can afford it, if you are prepared, retire as soon as you can.

[00:08:47]You know, retirement should feel like freedom.

[00:08:55]Not having so much stress when you retire.

[00:09:01]So, if you are not prepared, I don't think you feel like you have as much freedom as if you were prepared.

[00:09:14]So, anyways, I just don't want people going into this and doing what I did.

[00:09:27]Not being prepared.

[00:09:30]I'm not struggling per se, but I'm not where I should have been.

[00:09:37]But I'm doing okay. So, anyways, just prepare yourself before you start taking Social Security.
