Improper administration of IV therapy at med spas can lead to fatal cardiac arrest, as demonstrated by the case of Jennifer Cleveland, who died 27 minutes after receiving an IV infusion containing potassium chloride and TPN electrolytes that were administered too quickly (1,000 ml instead of the required 83-125 ml/hour over 24 hours); this case resulted in the med spa owner facing multiple charges including felony murder and the supervising physician being arrested, leading to the passage of Jennifer's Law in Texas to regulate non-traditional healthcare facilities administering elective IV therapy.

WARNING: You Can Die at the Med-Spa if This is Not Done RightAdded:
I did not know that going to a med spa was a thing. And it's becoming even more of a thing nowadays. So, this video right here, this is for a lot of you who are following the trends and you're going to a med spa. I remember I would party a lot and of course we popping bottles. So, I'm consuming a lot of alcohol. And then my body would get so dehydrated my lips would chap up and you know, your body just doesn't feel the same. Your joints are creaking, you're you're hurting, you're tired, you're down, you need to be replenished, you know what I mean? Your electrolytes are gone. So, I starts to drink a lot of Gatorade and other things, uh, Pedialyte and other things. And then I found out that some people, they just go to the med spa. You clock in at the med spa, you sit in your chair, you get set up, you relax, sit back for an hour or two, they hook you up to some IVs, and they pump it directly into your veins, into your body, and you are more rejuvenated than ever before. Quick fast. It'll take me about a week to recover after a good partying of a day or two.
You go to these med spas in that one day after you receive all this stuff in your body, you're completely replenished. So, I could see the attraction to it. But did you know that you can die? Did you know that going to the med spa and taking these IV cocktails, you can die?
Okay, here's a story. A med spa owner is now charged with murder after allegedly administering one of these IV cocktails too quickly, causing the patient to suffer a fatal cardiac arrest. I had no idea if you administer it too quickly that somebody could die. I was in the army. I was in the infantry. And when we went out on ruck runs or marches, road marches or ruck runs humping, our team leaders or platoon leaders used to say [ __ ] like, "Don't fall out of my run or don't fall out of this march cuz if you fall out of this march, we're going to give you a IV and I'mma shove it in your ass." Right? So, I never fell out of any of the rucks because I didn't want anybody shoving an IV in my ass. And when I asked, "Is he joking or is he serious?" They were like, "He's dead serious." They put it in your ass because that's the fastest way to get you rehydrated if you're falling out, your eyes are rolling back cuz you're dehydrated, you know. And I said, "Damn, I'm I better force hydrate before these encounters so I don't get dehydrated and fall out. Somebody shove IV in my ass." I didn't know. Oh. And then they would say, "Oh, I'll shove it in your ass and then I'm going to stomp on the bag like stomp on a bag and make it go in there faster." H this story, Amber Johnson now faces multiple charges including murder, criminal neglect, ne negligence, homicide, manslaughter, and several other counts. Here's the situation. A Texas woman died of a cardiac arrest, heart attack after she allegedly received IV therapy too quickly. Jennifer Cleveland died on July 10th of 2023. Her death occurred on the same day that she visited Amber Johnson's Luxe Med Spa in West Ham, Texas, where she allegedly received the IV infusion with multiple vitamins and electrolytes in a unsafe manner. You would think, "Oh, I'm getting vitamins and electrolytes. What could go wrong?
I'm about to get up out of here feeling nice." And you died.
This is according to the indictment documents, right? It says that Johnson turned herself in and she was booked at the Freestone County Jail on Tuesday for something that happened in 2023. We're in 2026 and she just turning herself in now, April 28th of 2026, according to jail records. Now, she faces several charges including felony murder, criminal negligent homicide, manslaughter, tampering with physical evidence, practicing medicine without a license, and nine counts of delivery of a dangerous drug. A Freestone County Jail spokesperson confirmed she was released on $69,000 bond on April 28th. So she turned herself in and got released like a day later or the same day. She turned herself in on the 28th. She got released on the 28th. She got released on the same day. Usually if you get released on the same day, it means [ __ ] can't be that serious.
The 47year-old overdosed on potassium chloride allegedly provided by Johnson. She was administered 1,000 ml of the IV cocktail that included total parental nutrition or TPN electrolytes which are typically administered via intravenous feeding or through the veins feeding to provide patients with necessary nutrients. Additionally, TPN electrolytes, they require a slow infusion rate of 83 to 125 milliliters per hour over a 24-hour period to avoid any adverse effects. This is according to real doctors.
If not properly administered, the monitored and monitored an unsafe amount of potassium can enter the body leading to cardiac arhythmia, kidney dysfunction, muscle weakness or spasms, metab metabolic disturbances, or death. Now, Jennifer's infusion began around 11:04 a.m.
July 10th, 2023, and 27 minutes later, 11:31 a.m., she lost consciousness.
She collapsed and she had no pulse, said Johnson's attorney, David E. Moore.
Jennifer was taken to the local hospital. She was admitted with cardiac arrest and she was pronounced dead within minutes. This is the part that you need to hear if you are one of these people going to these med spas.
The Texas Medical Board then investigated her death. So after months of investigation, the board finally found that the patient died of cardiac arrest due to improper administration of the IV therapy. And this is according to the Texas Medical Board's August 2024 order to suspend the license of Johnson's suspected medical supervisor, Dr. Michael Gallagher.
Now, according to the indictment, Johnson actually lacked medical licensing, proper medical lensure, and however, she just decided to run a med spa in the spring of 2023. Anyways, in spite of Texas laws that say they prohibit non-f physicians from being the majority owner of these medical practices.
Johnson then worked with Dr. Michael Gallagher, who allegedly failed to adequately supervise Johnson, permitting her to use his medical license to obtain TPN electrolytes or he failed to monitor the TPN electrolytes that Johnson obtained using his license and administered them to patients according to Gallagher's indictment. So, an arrest warrant for Dr. Gallagher was executed on Wednesday, April 29th, the day after Johnson was arrested. According to court documents that were obtained, he was arrested on charge of felony murder, manslaughter, criminal negligent homicide, nine counts of delivery offer deliver of a dangerous drug, and 13 counts of practicing medicine in violation of subtitle a freestone county jail spokesperson confirmed he was released on $96,500 bond on the 29th, the same day that he was arrested as well. Now, following Jennifer's death, her husband, Brian Cleveland, filed a civil lawsuit against the Med Spa after his wife's death. He also worked with Rep. Angela Orur and Dr. Kelly Green to get Jennifer's law passed, which was signed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott on June 20th, 2025. So if you hear about Jennifer law or Jennifer's law, the law introduces comprehensive regulations for nontraditional health care facilities administrating elective IV therapy. That's just more stringent regulation for these med spa places.
So before the bill was passed, Brian told news media that his late wife, she was filled with love, man. And she loved life and she loved people, her people.
And like I said, one word described her and it was love. She just wanted to love and that's basically the best way that I can describe her to you. He said, "Naming the legislation after Jennifer is maybe her way of giving back.
continue to help each other though she's not physically still here with us.
That's she's always gonna be right here in my heart is what her husband said. Of course, typically what her husband said.
Uh, I do this story right here just to raise awareness because I myself have seen these med spas and I did think about going into one and getting some IV therapy.
But now after I've seen this, I'm not going. I'm not going. Not that I'm still thinking. I am absolutely not thinking about going anymore. I know somebody is going to say, "Well, you know, that's a one-off situation and the the person did not properly regulate and it wasn't properly done nothing." I don't want to be the one to find out that somebody else did. The possibility of death is there. I'm not going.
With that said, you make your own choice. Remember, you got to lay in it, your coffin or your bed once you make that choice. All right? If you find a safe med spa that you trust and they are properly licensed and they are known to not have any of these issues and they're super careful and whatever and you feel comfortable, then by all means go ahead. I loved getting IVs when I was in the army. I used to get the IV and I would you could literally feel it circulating through your body. They give it to you cold and you can feel it, right? And then you feel so rejuvenated afterwards.
But I was kind of like don't know in a crazy place in my head where if I died, I died. I kind of feel like I care more about living now than.
So on that note, just a video to raise some awareness and let you know that you can die in a med spa if your IVs are not properly administered. All right, take that with you and do with it as you wish. Leave your comments in the comments section below and I will catch you on the next video. I'm out. Peace.
