Self-publishing authors face significant technical challenges when transitioning between software platforms, such as when iOS updates disrupt Microsoft Word 360 formatting, requiring migration to alternative tools like Apple Pages; the creative process involves balancing technical troubleshooting with maintaining creative momentum, as demonstrated by an author who spent four days proofreading and formatting her manuscript before successfully publishing her thriller novel 'Blackout Nomads' on Amazon Kindle.

First Me… Then AngieAdded:
High five everyone. Did you miss me?
Blackout Nomads to Lucen Core. It is done and it is on Amazon. Yes. So, the link is going to be in um comments in the video description. I did put up one promo um post this morning.
Yeah, that that was really something getting that up.
Let me get comfy here. Yeah, let me put this down. There we go. Yeah, that was really something getting that up. I spent three Well, okay. I spent probably four days non-stop Well, sort of um proofreading it again just and I'm glad I did. Oh my gosh. And let me bring this down a little bit. I know. I'm just I thought I would get something out for you guys because I didn't see you yesterday afternoon or this morning. So, I'm going to get this out for you.
Trying to work the lighting. Yeah, it's okay.
It's been something. It really has. So, then I proof read it. Then I went to slip it in to the system Kindle Create, you know. Yeah.
Wow. That was a mess. Here's what was going on.
The last major update for iOS, which is Apple 26, it just it just messed with everything.
There were a lot of apps that it messed with, but what it really messed with was Microsoft Word 360. It really messed bad.
My manuscript was a mess. Margins were a mess. Everything, nothing coordinated.
And so I spent two days fighting it.
Fighting. Yes. Fighting it. Finally, I realized that I need to with some um research, I needed to take it into um I used iOS, Apple's pages, which is um Apple's version of Word.
Easy peasy. Yeah. out of the mouth of babes.
Angie was already using pages because she didn't have Word. I mean, it costs money. It's expensive buying Word 360.
So, she was already using Pages. She just discovered it because she got a Mac Neo. Well, so that took a while to learn. It was like a learning a new app.
A major app. A major app. A pages is a major app, a new word program type thing. Let me get comfortable here.
I know. So, yesterday it went through and I was waiting and I had already done the cover and I was waiting for um Amazon to they were reviewing it and it was okay. Well, I realized there was one little problem I had with the Kindle version, the ebook. So, I thought, well, as long as I'm doing it, I'm gonna I'm gonna get that one, right? And it actually said, "Oh, you you actually we put it through, but you actually should have put a um a table of contents." Well, I did have a table of contents. So, I went and what I did was I uploaded the pages manuscript that I got done in pages and everything went through fine this morning.
Well, let's go back to last night. I was exhausted. I literally mentally it it it just boggled me. It really took a lot out of me. I really have never experienced using my mental capacity. I was frustrated and trying to find everything, trying new things. I had no idea that that would really like wipe me out. Well, I slept a good 9 hours. I just literally fell in bed around 6:30 last night.
And then Angie said she had a really tough night, too.
And uh I guess she came in here and slept for a little bit. She just wanted to come in here and sleep.
I have a nature app that I use and and she said that she could not sleep. She was having bad dreams about a couple of different people. You can imagine. And so she was just she was upset, I guess.
And and uh I slept through it. We had a lot going on in this house. Oh my gosh.
So when I woke up this morning, I was a foggy mess. Literally, I stumbled into the kitchen to make coffee. But I had already slept nine hours. I really had I haven't felt like that. And it almost felt like a hangover, but it wasn't.
I mean, I didn't fall over or anything or feel sick. I just was like a zombie.
And it took almost 10 minutes to make coffee. I'm like, way over there is the water. I got to go get that water and put it in this thing so I can put it on my stove. That's how I was in slow motion.
So that was Yeah. So last night, yesterday, there was no way I could have put up a video. And then um this morning there was like there's no way.
But I looked at my and it looked like everything went through fine. Everything went through fine. and it actually gave me a link and I thought, well, here we go. Let's do a promo. I'd already had some um uh descriptions all ready to go.
And I did a little bit of photography for the for um for promos uh promotional uh post for the book. And uh how am I doing on uh let me do this.
Yeah, when I do that, it it goes back.
Yeah.
my lighting lighting.
Okay, so that's what's been going on with me. I just want to get something up for you. Nothing big, but it is big that the book is out. The book is now out.
So, I have, if you're new, I have Blackout Nomads.
Okay.
It's sort of like Jaws. And then the next one is Jaws Revenge or something like that. Yeah. The name of the book is Luc uh Blackout Norman's Lucent Core, but the first book is just Blackout Nomads. And it's got the characters in it. It's got Max in it. It's got Julia.
It's got Jack. It's got Deborah, Tony, and Mark, and Winnie and Jesse. Yeah.
And and Kathy's in there, too. We'll put Kathy in there. Um so, that is uh it's a good book. Number one, if you haven't gotten it, I'm going to leave the link for that also in comments. And I always leave it I mean I mean leave the list.
It is a thriller. It is a It is based on what's kind of going on in the world right now. I mean I wrote a book about it. Yeah. And the homeless are included in that. Yeah. They're kind of wiping out and picking up and making it and in the middle of the night people are getting they're disappearing.
But we've got the resistance. We've got Blaine with her YouTube channel and she's trying to report what's going on.
Well, when they leave the um Jesse and Winnie, they have a baby and it's just born and uh so now we move into Blackout Nomads Lucent Core and they're in Missouri in the Ozarks and the baby now is 5 years old.
and a lot has happened. Oh my gosh. So, um I'm not going to give too much about it, but we have a new um character, William Nighthawk.
And uh we've got two worlds colliding.
We've got four, we got the wood people that are stuck in the woods, and we got people that are living in a bunker that they've built over the five-year period.
And it it's a good book. It really is.
So what happened for me is I wrote that book a year ago basically pretty much a year ago. But I wanted to get a literary agent who could find a good publisher for me and I could become wealthy. Right.
Oh wrong. I decided there, you know, that can take up to two, three years cuz just if you if you can find a literary agent who will take it on that likes that genre cuz different literary agents like different genres and then they have to find a good the publishers for it and then even after that it can take a couple years. I thought no way I'm gonna get this out. I'm just gonna keep writing.
So that's what I decided to do. I dusted off the manuscript. It was in Word.
Yeah, I'm done with Word. I mean, I'll still keep it, but I'm not gonna I'm not gonna pay for it. I'm not gonna pay for all of that. I've got pages now and I want to use that. It was so much simpler and it it was so um it's more user friendly, I believe, but I still have to learn a lot about it. So, I'm glad I did because this morning and even in my foggess, then I started reviving when I realized, wow, okay, I've got a link. I can now let you know about this and let other people know that it is out. Some of you said, I can't wait to the next book or the next thriller. Well, I was sitting here just in my fog thinking, "Oh my goodness."
I went in, took a shower. That kind of washed off all the old. Let me do this again.
There we go. And um I got excited about number three. So, I've been I've been brainstorming with myself on number three, Blackout Nomads 3. I don't know what it will be called, you know, but uh yeah, it will be um I think I'm going to start it soon.
I started one book and I'm just not that excited about it. I'm just gonna put it on the shelf for a while and I am really excited. A new program, pages, a new um word program and yeah, I'm right now I'm just in the trying to figure out what the world is going to look like 5 years after the Lucent Core. What will it look like?
What's gonna happen? Yeah. So, who knows how far this is going to go, but it is like I've created a world and I'm inviting you into my world and um they're good. They really are. So, I really encourage you. Um I know that this video is just kind of like chatting. Yeah, this is a chill day. Um okay, enough about the book. It's there.
Okay.
Oh, I don't I wanted to mention Yeah. Um I did realize just in since I the um last time I published a book, uh printing went went skyhigh. Amazon takes their cut and then of course their printing, okay? And they're going to take their cut out because they're if you have Amazon Prime, they're going to ship it for free to you if it's paperback. But there's also ebook. Okay. And that's a given. It's $9.99 for the ebook. Yeah.
And you can read it on your Kindle or your phone or whatever. All you have to do is get the Kindle app if you don't have um anything else to read it by. But Kindle app and it's free and it's for Android and iOS, whatever.
And then I'm going to start working on in between getting my books, all of my books into Apple books. Of course, those will all be um the, you know, Apple books. They'll be ebooks. So, I'll get it on Apple, too. I'll let you know when that happens. I think it's a whole another system. I got to learn it. I got to learn how to do it. So, yeah. Um, let's see what else.
Yeah, today is a chill day because I mean, Angie, she's she's sort of groping around too. She's in she we're both kind of a little bit of zombie going on.
We're hugging each other a lot. We're saying, "I love you."
Yeah. We're like supporting each other.
And I guess she had some bad dreams. And uh she woke up crying and every once in a while she burst into tears. And so I woke her up kind of. I I really didn't know what was going on. I knew she sleeps in anyways. So I kind of like Angie, I'm going to Whole Foods to pick up some food. We need food. We had we we went down to the bare minimum and um she goes, "I really had a rough night. I'm just going to sleep in for a while and I go to fine." You know, I didn't know she really had a rough night. So, kind of gathered some extra special foods at Whole Foods and there's a lot to eat right now. So, yeah, keep her healthy, keep her going, and uh we're both just chilling. Today's a chill day. This will be the um yeah the afternoon and then I will see you tomorrow morning. I'll have something really good for you. Please leave a comment for me. Let me know um how you doing and also have the memberships and I'll get something together for you for you and the memberships. But so I guess I'm just letting you know what's going on in this apartment here in Tucson with my granddaughter.
Okay, everybody.
I love you guys. I'm going to go chill out some more, drink the rest of my second cup of coffee.
Okay.
