The 3 Bucket Retirement Strategy is a portfolio allocation method that divides investments into three time-based buckets: a stable bucket for years 1-5 to cover living expenses, a moderate-growth bucket for years 6-15 using dividend-paying stocks for income, and a high-growth bucket for years 16+ to combat inflation, helping retirees avoid common planning mistakes by matching investment risk to time horizons.

The 3 Bucket Hack for Better Retirement Returns #investing #retirement #strategyAdded:
Most retirement plans don't fail all at once. They fail slowly, 1° at a time.
Some people think to themselves, "I've got so much money in my portfolio, I'll just start drawing it down in retirement, and everything's going to be okay." One strategy that I've seen work, people look at the portfolio, and they will use buckets. They'll take some of the portfolio and use it to meet their living expenses in the next 1 to 5 years. So, those investments are going to be really stable, really secure.
They're not going to grow a lot, but they're going to fund your living expenses for the next 1 to 5 years. Then they're going to take a portion of the portfolio, and they're going to invest it for years 6 through 15. These would be things like dividend-paying companies, things that can generate income, moderately grow, so that in years 6 through 15, your income needs can be met. But then, you have to keep your eye on the prize, and you have to structure a portion of the portfolio to cover your needs from year 16 all the way through the end of life. Those types of investments need to grow to really help you fight off inflation. Now, with that growth comes a lot of volatility.
Higher risk, higher return.
