[00:00:21]I assess and treat thyroid hormone imbalances. Abnormal levels may affect your metabolism, heart rate, and energy.

[00:00:27]An overactive thyroid can cause symptoms such as rapid weight loss and palpitation. Conversely, an underactive thyroid can lead to symptoms such as weight gain and fatigue. Thyroid function can be checked with a simple blood test. Depending on whether the hormone levels are too high or too low, treatment options can include antithyroid medications, thyroid [music] hormone replacement, radioactive iodine, or surgery.

[00:00:49]That's right. Sometimes it's not just about hormones, but nodules in the gland. I assess if the thyroid is enlarged, lumpy, or pressing on nearby structures. Thyroid nodules can occasionally cause breathing difficulties [snorts] or voice changes. Assessment [music] is usually started with an ultrasound.

[00:01:03]Suspicious nodules may require fine needle aspiration and cytology.

[00:01:07]Ultrasound guided biopsy of suspicious nodules followed by surgery if indicated. [music] For selected small thyroid cancers, we offer thermal ablation, a scarless procedure with minimal side effects.
