Using a Roth IRA to Buy Super Bowl Tickets Tax-Free?Added:
This young man invested his Roth IRA in Super Bowl tickets and oh boy, I said this on a podcast and it got a lot of attention because just for so many reasons. It's like you can't do that. He bought them with his Roth and resold them and the profit went back into his Roth IRA taxfree. These were regular tickets, not collectibles. The gentleman who did this with his Roth IRA was not in the business of being a ticket sculper or selling tickets. So, he wasn't running a trader business. And the tickets themselves were not collectibles. They weren't special tickets. I remember cuz that generated a lot of buzz and you called me because some people were making assertions that we went through and took apart one at a time why you can't do this. No, actually I would happily defend that in an audit or better yet tax court. I would have a ball with that.
>> You have to be creative like you're saying investors are creative people and how do you make this work and look at the deal you just talked about that didn't just fall in your lap and you had to take something that looked like a turnup and turn it into a rose which you really did.
>> And it's always about the due diligence knowing what you're doing. One of the things I like to tell people with IAS, that's not the place to practice. Your Roth in particular is your most precious money in existence. That's your tax-free money. It's not even traditional tax deferred. It's taxree and that's where you put your cherries. But a cherry includes being good at what you do.
