Japanese Artists Don't Understand Why Westerners Attack Them

[00:00:00]Now, this came on my Twitter feed. A very interesting article where a Japanese artist doesn't understand why Westerners are comparing him to a criminal.

[00:00:11]And uh this artist uh I I guess he's drawing like this type of characters, right? He's drawing uh what what appears to be underaged anime characters as HR would call it. Uh, and uh, since it's on Twitter, it's safe for work because according to Twitter's toos, you can't draw underage characters naked, right? Like it's uh, it's against uh, Twitter's guidelines. And since the guy is still on Twitter and he has a bob of haters, then uh, I assume they didn't have anything to report him with. Uh but what he is basically saying is that um he's just an artist and he is being compared with pedophiles and then treated worse than pedophiles for his drawings. Right? So he's uh basically posting this which is translated from uh Japanese to English.

[00:01:08]When I am compared to people who actually has relations with minors and told I am even worse, I feel like I'm going to lose it. I have never done anything with minors in my life, but just for drawing manga, they are saying I am worse than those who actually did it. Do you have any idea what I'm going through and what I will feel until I die? Yeah, I'm pretty sure they have an idea, which is why after you're posting this, uh, the harassment may actually intensify. Uh, but as I mentioned, he ended up deleting the tweet. At least I think so because I searched for the profile and I couldn't find it. Uh what do you think about his outburst? Well, uh what I what I actually think about his outburst is that uh first of all uh he doesn't understand the internet, right? Um ever since, uh Grock allowed translation from the west to Japan. Uh it has been very interesting for Japanese people that lived in a secluded bubble up until now, you know, protected by their own language. Uh but secondly, to me this is not weird. I mean to me this is Tumblr like Twitter has become Tumblr and a lot of people uh haven't noticed probably because they didn't use Tumblr but uh those that remember the 2014 2016 era of the internet uh back when you um had this social media called Tumblr and you went there and you had to uh post your mental illnesses in the bio like I'm not even kidding it's it's very difficult for people to realize this but back then before pronouns you would basically say you have autism, you have bipolar disorder, you have some sort of anxiety, right? And people literally like had the sausage of mental illnesses in their bio using them like badges and they would create an account and they would go on Tumblr. Now Tumblr had this thing called the shipping wars.

[00:03:00]Uh the whole idea is that you can judge a person based on their artistic taste and you can decide if that person is safe or not to be around other people.

[00:03:11]Right. And um back then it wasn't about anime. Most people didn't even know what anime was, but they had TV shows and you had like Supernatural and its fandom, Doctor Who and its fandom, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and the Pandem. And what a lot of people did was called shipping.

[00:03:30]So uh they didn't have like the uh art style or the technique to draw like this elaborated uh characters, but what they did was uh they wrote Romantica. So you'd go on somewoman's blog which did a shipping between I don't know Buffy and Angel and she would literally write smut between the characters, right? And that was some like really serious [ __ ] That was life ruination level because um if you didn't ship properly you had other people from the forums trying to hack your computer, give you malware, try to find out where you live, get you fired.

[00:04:02]Like literally all the [ __ ] that is happening now to Japanese artists was happening then. And all of it was uh if your shipping is problematic. So if there's an age gap into your shipping, right? If you're shipping Buffy with someone else, there's a huge age gap.

[00:04:16]Well, that's a reason for people to ruin your life. Uh if there was uh a an artist drawing a black character white, again, that's problematic, right? So like they would try to ruin them. Uh if you had minors being shipped, right?

[00:04:32]Like there were a couple of TV shows. I think like Heroes was one of them. And uh one of the big characters, the actress of was of age. Like the actress was pretty [ __ ] hot. I think like at the time when I was a teenager, I I actually uh found that a waifu. Most people found waifuss in TV shows back then, not in anime. But like she was 19 or 20. However, she was roleplaying uh in in the movie like someone that's 17, 16. If you shipped her, like again, extremely problematic life ruining stuff, right? Uh if you ship the Winchesterers, like this one was really big, that's incest adjacent. Uh even if you shipped like uh someone that was 18 with someone that was like 40, right?

[00:05:12]Now the thing is like this was extremely feminine in energy, right? Like most guys didn't [ __ ] care. Most guys uh didn't even ship. Like most guys were talking about power levels and stuff.

[00:05:22]This was mostly like a women-based forum and they're simps. Like extremely low, you know, alpha energy. Um, but it was also like uh a lot of people that were genuinely unhinged because we're talking about social justice activists, right?

[00:05:35]Like they're [ __ ] in the head anyway.

[00:05:36]Um, and they wanted to like use their knowledge of sending malware, of doxing, of ruining someone's life, but they wanted to use it in an acceptable premise. And so basically the idea that Tumblr had is that there are no wrong tactics, just wrong targets. And so if you dehumanize someone, right, because they're shipping someone incorrectly or something like that, then it's actually acceptable to ruin his life, like anything bad happening to him, including swatting, including like anything, literally anything is justified because he's a bad person. The interesting thing is that it generally creates psychos that you got to wonder, you know, like who do I want to have as a neighbor? Do I want to have like some 16-year-old chick that ships the Winchesterers as a neighbor or some other guy that thinks it's okay to do life ruination to another person? Like which one is generally more safe to be around? You know, like someone that thinks it's okay to swat someone, someone that thinks it's okay to dock someone, to desecrate a grave or some [ __ ] like that. Or, you know, like some chick that sits in her house and uh write some erotica.

[00:06:42]Obviously, you know, uh but this is it, you know, like this is part of uh neoprotestant culture that like again it's not tied to religion, but it's tied to the behavior where uh you got to police people's thoughts, right? Not not just people's action, but their thoughts. It's like what if he watches uh violent video games and then he actually goes out and replicates what he likes to do in the video game, right? Cuz like what sane Christian person enjoys uh going around GTA committing crimes, murdering cops? I mean that's just [ __ ] gross, right?

[00:07:15]Like no normal person does that. And so it must be something broken in his mind.

[00:07:20]THAT WAS THE MENTALITY BACK THEN, RIGHT?

[00:07:22]And it's interesting cuz like you have like these constant waves of the idea that uh the taste in someone's art influences uh how they behave. And so you can judge a person based on their art and decide if they're safe or not to be around people. And if they're unsafe, you have to kill them basically, right?

[00:07:40]Uh maybe not go that far, but at least ruin their life completely. Uh make an example out of them. And so uh you ended up with the satanic panic, which basically in a very religious world, they they said that, well, yeah, like Dungeons and Dragons obviously doesn't make your kids satanic, but like it normalizes Satanism. And so like they go and they play Dungeons and Dragons, they cast spells, they think that making compacts with demons is okay. And then when an actual Satanist group comes up, like those people are very easy to recruit. And so like the creators of Dungeons and Dragons, they're problematic. Then they moved on and they basically said, uh, okay, well that was ridiculous, right? Like come on, obviously ridiculous, but violence in video games now. That's not ridiculous, right? like people that are genuinely kind, goodnatured, they start playing violent video games and they think that violence is acceptable. It normalizes and they become more violent, right? Uh and then they moved on and they said, "Well, yes, like obviously that was ridiculous, right? Like obviously that's not what's happening." But the reality is that if people play uh video games with racist themes, misogynistic themes, if they're racist and sexist and blah blah blah, uh then they internalize that and they become racist and sexist. So you can have like a normal individual just happening to play GTA and he internalizes the themes and he becomes a racist or sexist, right? Uh and now you have anime and people say, "Well, obviously everything that happened in the past is ridiculous and beyond the pale, right? But like why would you jerk off to a cartoon? Like obviously that person if you put a child next to them, they're attracted to the child because they're attracted to the cartoon and therefore it's okay, right? Like again this whole thing will repeat. Like I'm pretty sure that this one will die down at some point and people will look at the past and say, "Well, OBVIOUSLY THAT WAS RIDICULOUS, BUT NOW YOU HAVE LIKE right uh because why?" Because people don't do it um necessarily because they're sincere, right? Like most people probably don't give a [ __ ] if you genuinely ship uh the Winchesterers together. Uh even though it's disgusting and gross, right? Like I personally wouldn't read something like that. But I also don't think that someone that writes something like that should have their life ruined. However, defending it is very difficult, right?

[00:09:54]Like how can you defend the shipping of Winchester?

[00:09:58]I mean, you know, besides saying, "Well, it's gross, but I don't think that the person that does it should have it coming up to them, right?" Uh however, attacking it is very easy. Like attacking it, you you even know what to say. Like you even have the script, you know, it normalizes it and all of a sudden, right, like you get likes, you get retweets, you know, people look up at you. Oh my goodness, you're fighting the good fight. You know, you're you're going to end up incest around the world uh by preventing a little girl from writing about Sam and then Winchester kissing, right? I mean, literally that that was the mentality back then.

[00:10:32]It's the mentality now. Like you cannot defend this [ __ ] but it's very easy to attack it. Does it genuinely cause real harm in the real world? I don't [ __ ] know. Like I personally like women with big tits, right? I like my characters to have big fat tits and so uh I'm not attracted into whatever the [ __ ] this is unless you put some massive milkers on her. Uh but is a person that's attracted to this attracted to an actual child? I guess like that is the genuine question, right? Can you be attracted to [ __ ] like this without being attracted to children?

[00:11:04]I don't know because I'm not attracted to this, but I assume yes, right? I assume like it is possible to be attracted to anime characters, without being attracted to real life kids. Uh the reason that I know this is because like the only thing that I can put myself as close to it as possible is watching Dragon Ball, right?

[00:11:23]So, like I'm watching Dragon Ball and you have Goku, which is like a 12-year-old kid, and he gets brutally killed. Like, he's got well, he doesn't get killed in Dragon Ball. He actually survived, but he's got like this this energy ray and he's coming through him, right? And it's just like making a huge hole into him and there's blood coming out of his mouth. And I'm thinking like as an anime thing, I can watch that. I have no problem, right? But if you were to show me like an actual child actor with special effects and [ __ ] like going through exactly that, I wouldn't be able to watch it. But in fact, like even seeing a child actor, if I was to see a live adaptation of Dragon Ball and you have like a 10-year-old doing exactly what Goku does, it will look [ __ ] cringe, right? So like, is there a possibility to dissociate uh yourself from the anime? Yes. But is it also possible that pedophiles like this also?

[00:12:11]Yes. So in other words, I think there may be an overlap, you know, like I generally think that some people that uh consume this type of content may unironically be pedophiles, right? Uh but there is also the possibility that many of them who consume this type of content are not and so uh the conversation if it's honest and if it's sincere should start from there.

[00:12:35]right now. Uh going after uh writers and people that are just drawing and uh you know like trying to do life ruination and [ __ ] I think that's a step too far, right? Like this is the Bob with pitchforks and torches. And the question is like if there was no anime on planet Earth tomorrow, would it make the world a better place? Probably not. Like probably the people with Bobs and torches would go to some other community. they would go cuz like they they require the dopamine from uh performing their rituals. Um and I already see in the UK right like in the UK uh the current Labor party is uh having a strong stance against banning incest while they're having a strong stance for banning incest in fiction.

[00:13:21]So, it just goes to show that though, right? Like in reality, um there is no overlap between legislation and the actual drawings and [ __ ] Uh but anyway, like you can't even have the conversation because people already made up their mind, right? But I am trying to explain why this Japanese person is getting harassed and I think I did a good job. Like if you're a Japanese person or you can speak Japanese and you want to tell a Japanese person like what did they do wrong? Well, this is where you can start, right? You're basically telling them that Tumblr is back in business. like Tumblr has never left. It has gone corporate. Uh Japanese people as well like they're uh conflicted about this. Like some people say uh it seems foreigners think art is bad as real crimes, don't they? Well, they don't think it's bad as real crimes, but they do treat it as such, right? Like uh the doxing, the uh threats that they give, the uh uh you know, like trying to ruin someone's career, trying to destroy Sabot over it. It's it's pretty much what you do to a criminal, right? And so they don't say that art is bad as real crimes, but they definitely do behave like that. Uh they still act like Epstein. I don't know if Epstein liked that. I think like didn't Epstein actually like Yuri. So no, like Epstein Epstein would be on the other side of the fence, wouldn't he? I I jolly don't know. Like we we will never know how how Epstein feels about it. Uh you can ignore what foreigners say, but more and more foreigners are interacting with them. Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Japanese will discover the block button soon. Uh, low is one thing. Pedophiles are something really bad. They say uh creating creative activity is battle against criticism. Uh, again, this is what Japanese people are thinking, right? So, like this is not western morality. This is basically like people from Japan expressing what they're um thinking about this whole controversy.

[00:15:10]Uh, those who oppose freedom of expression should now view uh copyrighted works. Yeah, I mean there is there is a little bit of an interesting thing here. Uh a lot of these people that are against the depiction of these characters. Uh they seem to be very wellversed into the lore of these characters. Like for example, I don't even know who the [ __ ] this is. But I have seen like people on Twitter like immediately going, "Ah, don't you know that she is 17?" And I'm like, "No, no, I generally don't. I don't." Right. Uh the recent case was um made in Abyss, right? Um, there's a fandom on Reddit that's trying to desexualize Maiden Abyss, right? So, like, my brother in Christ, if you think Maiden Abyss is Kasami, like, don't you expose yourself to the Kasami then?

[00:15:54]Like, when you actually go in there and censor, does that mean that you actually read the work, you enjoyed it, and now you're just like, you know, going there and removing the thing and you're exposing yourself to that? You're like, right, like, does that make any sense?

[00:16:06]Um so uh there is actually truth when they say they should not view copyright work because a lot of people in public like Vosch right and many others they will say oh this is disgusting and gross but when their hard drive is revealed they're consuming this content right so it's like dude what the [ __ ] are you doing you know it's like well what they are doing is they want to get likes retweets they want to be popular right they want to appear boral and decent and so like they hide their shame in private Then then they go in public AND THEY'RE LIKE, "AH, WELL, YOU SHOULDN'T DO IT."

[00:16:39]BECAUSE IT'S very easy to condemn, right? Like what is the downside of condemning? Well, what do you lose for condemning? Uh your integrity, I guess, if you happen to have a private backlog.

[00:16:50]Uh there are a lot of people who get angry at drawings. Yeah. No, it's not the drawing. Like this is the thing that people need to understand. It's not that they get angry at drawings. they get they believe that if you do the drawings then you must 100% unironically either be a pedophile or you're normalizing it right so like up until anime pedophilia wasn't normal but now with anime it's why you had the uh Rodale cases in the UK right like that's what they think or at least based on their action it seems to be what they think uh but more importantly they just need someone to harass just like a Tumblr social justice activist needs something to be offended like you cannot live in the world separate them from the offense, right?

[00:17:29]Like I actually spoke with many people that were on Tumblr back in the day and they generally did say, "Yeah, it was fun." Like it was part of a community.

[00:17:36]It felt like we're changing the world and it was fun to try to destroy other people.

[00:17:42]And it was also like at some point they were afraid. The idea was that if you haven't destroyed the person recently, some people may think that well maybe you have something to hide, right? And so by attacking others, it shows that no, like you're part with the group. And if you're effective at attacking others, when it's actually discovered that you're a piece of [ __ ] people will say, "Well, yeah, he's a piece of [ __ ] but he's our piece of shit." Cuz like, look, he's very good at attacking others, right? We can't we can't tear him down.

[00:18:09]Uh anyway, right. No, I don't think this is going to go away anytime soon. Uh I don't think the conversation is going to solve anything. Uh but I give it like four or five more years and they're going to move to something else. Again, uh it was Satanism, right? the satanic panic. Then it was violence, the comic book code industry. Uh then it was racism and sexism. Uh now it's problematic depictions with sexualization and fan service and everything that comes with.

[00:18:40]And so like the fifth is going to be something else. I don't know what the Americans would let us know. Probably not the Americans. They're not the ones that started it recently. It's uh either the Australians or the UK, right? So the Australians and the UK will let us know what else needs to be targeted. And uh you know maybe I will join next time.

[00:18:55]Maybe I will join cuz uh by that time I will have a lot of experience, right? So uh maybe maybe I too will lead the crusade against whatever uh problematic uh content happens.

[00:19:06]Probably Chinese art, right? Like cuz uh once the Americans destroyed Hollywood, if they start regulating into oblivion, uh they're going to end up without anime as well and people go to China to maong, right? So like that will probably be the next frontier. uh you're playing Chinese video game poisoning the mind of the youth. It's possible. I don't know. I'm just uh speculating.
