And as a board-certified dermatologist, I can tell you that really that there's no such thing as a safe [music] base tan. Tans are typically not safe.

A base tan is when someone goes out and gets some sort of sun rays, whether that's from an indoor tanning booth or even outdoor in the natural sun, and they kind of get a little bit of a tan that helps them to protect them from the sun rays theoretically in the future.
