[00:00:00]What if this tiny component is the reason your phone charger doesn't explode? When voltage spikes in a circuit, most components simply burn out. The Zener diode doesn't. In forward bias, it behaves like any normal diode, conducting at 0.7 volts. Nothing special. But in reverse bias, something different happens. Push it past its breakdown voltage and instead of failing, it locks. It holds the output at exactly its rated voltage, say 12 volts, regardless of how much the input fluctuates. Excess current gets redirected to ground. Your circuit stays protected. That is voltage regulation.
