Phrasal verbs are formed by combining a verb with an adverb or preposition, creating a new meaning that cannot be understood by translating word-for-word (e.g., 'give up' means to quit, not to give something upward); they are essential for natural English speaking and frequently appear in examinations. Indirect speech (reported speech) converts direct statements into reported form, requiring changes in pronouns, tenses, and time expressions (e.g., 'I am returning' becomes 'he was returning'). Mastering these grammar topics is crucial for Part A examination success in Osmania University's BCom, BSc, and BBA programs.

ENGLISH | UNIT-2 GRAMMAR EXPLAINATION | SEM-4 | OSMANIA UNIVERSITY | @shivanipallelaAdded:
Hello students. Welcome back to our channel. So here in this video, we are going to discuss the complete part A grammar topic from English unit number two. Previous video, we have already completed unit one grammar topic, ma. In this video, unit two grammar topic of semester four Osmania University, whoever is pursuing BCom, BSc, BBA, any other streams under Osmania University, they can follow this video. This one video will be more than enough to cover unit number two part A bits, okay? So vocabulary you are having, ma, phrasal verbs. So what is mean by phrasal verbs? First you need to understand. A phrasal verb is a verb, okay? So when a verb and adverb and whether it is any prepositions, if you are combining verb along with adverb or preposition, then it is completing have a new meaning, okay?
When you are adding preposition or a adverb to a verb, then it will have the another completely you will have the another new meaning. For example, when a verb joins with another small word and it meaning changes, okay? Then it is called phrasal verbs, okay? If any adverb or preposition is adding to the verb and the meaning is changing, then that kind of thing is called phrasal verb. Easy example, ma, give is nothing about is to provide something to someone. Give up is nothing about to quit some I am give up. I'll give up this task, like that I'll say, no? So when you are adding up, okay? When you are just adding up to the verb, that is give. Give is a verb, no? So when you are adding up, that time your sentence is completely changed. That is called phrasal verbs. Next the also, look after. Look is something to see. Look after is something which you need to take care of, okay? Same, run is nothing to move fast. Run away is nothing about to escape from the situation. So, you cannot understand the phrasal verb by translating word to word. So, give up is nothing about giving something upwards.
Like give up. Like when you are translating correct word, like translating by word by word means giving up upwards, but it is not a correct statement. Give up is nothing about something which we are quitting. Like I'm quitting this task like that we'll tell, no? That is the correct word. So, you cannot understand the phrasal verb by translating the word to word.
Okay? Then what type of different types we are having means verb plus adverb, like sit down, stand up. Okay? Verb and adverb. Same, verb and preposition. Look after, believe in, like that, okay? See the exercises, ma'am.
See, why this phrasal verbs is important means in our daily in our daily daily in English speaking will make the English sound natural, like very common in the examination and conversations also. See here the question.
Exercises question, compulsory they will getting a four marks bit from this.
So, the boy felt dash when none of his friends went to watch him play. Let up, let down, let in. Means something he's feeling a difficulty that like his friends were not went to watch him play.
That is let down. He let down. Okay? The boy felt let down when none of his friends went to watch him play. Okay?
Let down. Okay, next one, ma'am. She had no appetite and dashed the food on the plate. She had no picked at. Okay?
Picked at, picked on, and picked up is not a correct word. Picked at, that means she had no appetite and picked at the food on the on her plate. Okay, whatever the food she was taking on her plate, she's having the no appetite, means she's not getting hunger. Okay, same the third one, the children the children get on very well with each other. Get on means something which we are having a positive bond between them.
Next one, Nishi is Nishi is going through a bad time in office. Okay, going about is something which we are continuing. Going into is something which is going into. Going through is something which you're having a bad time in the office, means right now, present.
Okay, same.
Next one, he has he has come up with a wonderful idea.
Okay, he came he come up with a wonderful idea, we'll call it we'll call it, no? So, that is the thing. And the last one, the people the people carried out, carried on, carried away. So, what is the correct one?
Carried on. The people carried on bravely during the feminine. Okay, famine, sorry, feminine. Okay, so carried out, carried on, carried away.
What is the main correct? Carried on.
This is the exercise you are having, ma.
Next one, phrasal verbs will be looking is simple, but their meanings are very different.
So, if you learn them, your English will become more fluent. Your English will become more natural when you are speaking with others. So, that's why we will use the phrasal verbs. Okay, next topic, ma, grammar. Okay, reported speeches. There is nothing about the indirect speech. Okay, so indirect speech is nothing about when someone is saying something directly. In other words, we need to use it as a indirect statements. See here, small example exercises, ma.
A J felt A J felt he was separated from his home and family, unable to contact them.
You need to add the cut. So, what is the cut uh grammar, ma? Cut off. Means something he's having the missing his uh family, no? Due to his work. So, how we will write the uh sentence? A J felt he was cut off from his home and family and unable to contact them. Like that we will write it. Cut means cut off. Same.
Brighten means brighten up. I want to make the room like a bright I want to make the room more attractive by using collect means I want to brighten up the room by using the different colors. Okay. Same.
Drag is nothing about dragged on. How will write the sentence? The audience was bored because the program dragged on for too long. When to get the drag.
Okay. Okay, understanding or not? Next one.
She She was unable to tolerate his behavior any longer. Put up.
Okay. Put is put up with his behavior.
She was unable to tolerate uh What is the tolerate like What is the another phrase verb you will use?
She was unable to put up with his behavior any longer. Okay, like that we will call it as. Next one, ma. You must You must not stop going to the guitar classes because you find it difficult.
Give means you should not give up the classes. You should not give up your hope. Like that we will tell, no? So, give means give up. Okay, next one.
Cross means crossed out. Okay. Put a line Put a What is the put a line means?
Put a line is nothing about the cross out. Cross out all the rough work in your answer sheet. Okay, that means put a line means just put a line in that whatever the rough work you are doing like that. Okay. So, this is the another exercises. Okay. So, out of this also definitely four marks bit they'll ask in the part A definitely. Okay. Only this six six things if you are learning. Same here also if you are learning the six you'll get the questions for part A. Same here also exercises more rewrite the following sentence into the indirect speeches. They have given the direct speeches you need to write it in the indirect. For example, Hassan said, "I am returning to Nagpur next Saturday."
Means write it in the indirect. Hassan assured that he was returning to Nagpur from the following Sun- Saturday. Like that. You can write the indirect speech also. Means they have given the direct questions you need to write it in the indirect questions. Same here also see, "Helen writes very well." Said her friend. The her friend commented that Helen were writing very well.
Writes very well. Like that. So, they have given the direct sentences you need to write the indirect. Okay. So, sometimes there is having a chance of getting this bit in the part A but maximum to this bit whatever we have discussed earlier that bits only they will give in the examination. Okay. And this one and phrasal verb sentences and phrasal verb options in the brackets. This two bits is most important one and this direct and indirect bit is sometimes they'll ask. So, whatever this 13, 14, 15, 16 till 16 whatever you are having just if you are looking into that means you will have a clarity. So, not much important but still you need to look into the grammar topic also about this last bit.
Okay. So, if they are giving direct sentence means how you need to write it in an indirect way, that you need to have the clarity. Clear? So, this is about the complete unit number two, ma.
Still, if you're having any further doubts, do let me know in the comment section. Whether the explanation is understandable or not, let me know.
Okay? So, all the very best. See you all in next video, students. Just practice these exercises, whatever I'm discussing in the video, that will be more than enough. Okay? See you all in next video.
Bye-bye,
