[00:00:00]Your inner child will always protect attachment at the expense of truth. A child cannot easily hold these two truths at once. So I need my parent to survive and my parent is harming me.

[00:00:12]Something is happening outside that is really hurting me. That creates unbearable conflict. So psychologically we call this cognitive dissonance. I'm sure many of you have heard that word before. And often the child resolves that pain through adapting. I know I did it. And this is the way that we do it through denial. idealization, minimization and we don't do this consciously. It happens subconsciously as a survival mechanism. So instead of believing my mother neglected me or my mother put me in harm's way or my father is abusive, the child concludes she loved me, I just am too needy or too sensitive. I'm just too much or I'm bad.

[00:00:51]Instead of my father frighten me or this is terrifying, the child in their head says, "Oh, he was stressed. he's overwhelmed. The child protects the image of the parent at all costs by sacrificing the truth of the self. This is one of the earliest wounds of codependency.
