A business owner's personal passion or fantasy concept does not guarantee success if it does not align with market demand and customer preferences; businesses must prioritize market fit over personal dreams to avoid financial failure.

The WORST Bar Rescue Save | Piratz Tavern/ Yo-Ho-Ho and a Bottle of Dumb本站添加:
This isn't just any bar. It's a bar.
>> Being a pirate is the ultimate Peter Pan syndrome. To live like a child yet be an adult.
>> Can I really do bar rescue reviews without covering the most iconic episode? As Tracy mentioned, she wanted to open up a fun place which attracted people who did Renfair reenactments and those who stayed in pirate character nearly 24/7. And that's all good and well because who doesn't like a little bit of whimsy? But maybe it was a mistake to hire people like that when you don't establish clear rules and you start blurring the line between customer and employee. Like seriously, these people seem like they party most of the time when they're at work. A definite mistake was Tracy hiring her husband, Juliano, to be the head chef when he has no business being in anyone's kitchen.
Probably not even his own at home.
Something I wasn't expecting was to learn how much Jussiano loves to cuss. I am pretty sure this man's favorite words areing bullshitting [ __ ] >> The bull. Why the guy talk like that?
Are you ashamed of the food that was served tonight? Nope.
>> Their food is good.
>> Your food is the worst I've ever seen.
It stinks.
>> I'm getting a little bit ahead of myself, so let's jump back to John doing recon. John sent his wife Nicole in to do some recon, but everyone started coming up to her and being very friendly, which just kind of made it evident to them that they knew that something was going on and the crew already knew that Nicole was there for a specific reason. Jonathan sent in his backup plan, which was a couple whom he'd helped previously on the show.
Something I think they weren't prepared for, something I definitely wasn't prepared for, was oneeyed Mike, that is what he calls himself, being rude to them.
>> I wonder if anybody's here. Wait, there's a pirate.
>> You want to just go back there?
>> Let's just go back. Let's go back.
>> We were waiting for quite a while, so we sat down.
>> Maybe we should like check in with someone.
This is kind of whacked.
Sir, can we get some menus?
>> Does anybody work here?
>> Oh, >> just going to seat yourselves whatever the you like, are you man?
>> Well, we were waiting and waiting and >> waiting and waiting.
>> Yeah, >> there's only one of me and so many of you.
>> It was It was odd.
>> I know he's got the persona turned on.
He's probably had a few, but someone is taking this pirate thing a little bit too seriously and you need to reel it in because you came in a little bit too hot. Oh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
>> Also, where were you if you're so pressed about them finding their own table? I know customers normally shouldn't do that, but how are you mad at them because you were slacking?
Anyway, Bill and Jyn sat down, ordered their food and drinks, which they said had been the worst they've ever had.
>> So, we're going to get some Let's start off with a grog.
>> A regular orch. All depends on how groggy you want to feel the next day.
>> I'd like to feel rather groggy, please.
>> No, then go with the regular then. It was like a rum soda. I don't know.
>> Tastes like >> really bad. It was um It was nasty.
>> What's the fresh catch?
>> Fresh kh? Uh let me check. Just fresh catch today. Mahi.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah. Mahi. Yes. Mahi.
>> Fresh mahi is fresh.
>> Yes.
>> All right.
>> The fresh catch was like frozen. I don't know. Pond bass or something like that.
It was nasty.
>> Oh my god. That's just that was so gross. It was a disgusting chunk of white, smelly. I couldn't even take a bite.
>> It's the the worst I've ever had was horrid. We just got to get out of here.
>> Just you just should be bringing you back the bill. And I did take some stuff off your bill. And I apologize that things weren't up to par. We're working on it.
>> I'm not trying to sound like an [ __ ] but you've had this business for 5 years up until this point. How much working on it can you do? I could be incredibly wrong saying this, but I feel like most people don't really have an issue eating something that was frozen because most of us eat things that are frozen anyway, but I don't understand lying about something being fresh when you know it isn't because people can tell the difference between fresh and frozen, especially when it comes to seafood. I mean, when you dine out, you want to taste something fresh, even though it might necessarily be fresh, if you get what I'm saying. Like, I know there's a high probability that y'all didn't just get this today, but I am expecting it not to taste like something that's been sitting at the bottom of a deep freezer for 2 months and you just decided to slip it on my plate today. John heads in to speak with Tracy about why she's holding on to this business that is failing. And she describes it as this being her ultimate dream.
>> Have you always wanted to open a pirate bar?
>> It's sort of the ultimate adult fantasy.
Dangerous and sexy.
>> And how's it working?
I think the people that come in here and get it absolutely love it and they come back extremely >> not a lot coming back.
>> Not a lot coming back. Yeah. I know we're losing money. I know we don't have the money to pay all the bills, but we're a niche market and when people do come in here, they love us.
>> Are you making money?
>> No.
>> I need you to come clean with me, Trace.
>> Okay.
>> Are you ashamed?
>> No.
>> You're not ashamed?
>> No.
>> Well, if you are not ashamed of what you serve tonight to people, then I'm going to tell you, you should close this place now.
If you're not ashamed by the fact that you have menu lies, that you're serving food that is undercooked. What makes you ashamed?
>> I have an establishment that I believe >> you're not ashamed of what you're doing that I can't help you.
>> The ultimate adult fantasy.
>> What do you mean by that?
>> Being a pirate is definitely not something that I fantasize about, but if it floats your boat, who am I to rock it? I guess pirates can be sexy, but it's just not my thing. Don't get me wrong, I understand having a dream and chasing after because you believe in it that much, but this dream has turned into a nightmare that's been siphoning nearly $1 million from you and has cost you your home. You have to realize that something has terribly gone wrong here.
John asked Tracy if she was ashamed of the food and overall service that they gave tonight. And this is when Juliana started flipping his [ __ ] >> The [ __ ] Why the guy talk like that? Are you ashamed of the food that was served tonight? Nope.
>> The food is good.
>> Your food is the worst I've ever seen.
It stinks.
>> The food is good.
>> Let me explain something to you. She had TO BUY THEM YOUR DINNER TONIGHT CUZ YOU blew it >> because the the customer >> No, because you blew it.
>> I can't fix this bar until these people accept that they're failing.
I want to say Juliana walked out there to defend his wife because he heard Jon raising his voice to her. But I feel like the real reason was him being hurt about hearing how his food sucks. I guess that was a very sore spot for him and he was ready to fight over it. I don't know why, but I feel like everyone here is just a little bit on edge and so defensive. It could be that they're all dressed as pirates, so they're feeling like badasses. Or it could be that they've all had a few. I'm tending to think it's the latter, but either way, they need to chill.
>> Daddy, chill. A little meeting was held with the staff to give them a heads up about the changes that are about to come. But those feel like they'd rather be anywhere else.
>> You guys are pouring drinks that people are complaining about. You're serving food that people can't eat. And she's sinking because of it.
Your smirk is going to bury you. You think it's funny that she's in debt $900,000?
>> No, it's not funny at all.
>> That's good.
>> Neither is a grown man yelling at the top of his lungs at people who aren't children.
Well, you're dressed like a six-year-old child. I wouldn't talk about that.
>> I don't like an arrogant [ __ ] I am one. Let him push me too far. We'll see.
I do this professionally for a living.
And if he thinks this is a get up a six-year-old will wear, it makes me angry.
>> Get some rest. You guys are going to need it. We're going to turn this into a money machine. He's going to make me put on a shirt and a tie.
>> No.
>> It's a pirate bar. You don't like it?
Get the out. I get that Jon is trying to see who was on board and who will be walking the plank, but you taking a dig at their costumes was just a low blow, John. To whip this crew into shape, Jon has enlisted the help of Chef Josh Capon and mixologist Elaine Duke to better the food and the super boozy drinks they have. Before Chef Kapon addressed Juliana's cooking, he wanted to look at the menu. And this thing has over 18 pages with 146 options, which is just ridiculous because why? Y'all are not the Cheesecake Factory. And I know Juliana does not have the skills to pull off most of that menu. Hell, Juliana doesn't even like the taste of his own cooking.
>> In order to gauge Juic's cooking, Chef Kapan watches him prepare a signature pirates dish.
>> I call the burning beats. That's chicken and abanero.
Okay. Try try.
Do it.
>> I'm not eating any more of that.
>> Come on, man. Come on.
>> Oh god.
>> A little spicy, huh?
>> Yep.
>> Okay. So, chef, I want Tracy to know what's going on. I've never seen anybody actually serve something that they don't taste themselves.
>> Why I have to taste everything? You taste everything. Trying to be nice. I'm trying to be respectful cuz he's your husband. If he wasn't your husband, I would have let him go. You're spitting out your food and expect other people to eat it. Nuh-uh.
>> No, ma'am.
No, ma'am.
>> That's the kind of food you put in the trash with a plate face down at the cookout. I just realized a reason why y'all could be in so much debt is because you're wasting money on a bunch of ingredients on dishes that will never be ordered and on a chef who can't really cook. When it comes to the drinks, these things should be illegal to consume. I'm not even joking.
>> What's the grog?
First thing, ginger beer, cloves, lime, and amoretta.
>> Okay.
>> And then it's all the rum.
>> Wow.
>> So, by my calculation, it is 3/4 and says about Oh, and there's more.
>> Oh, there's more.
>> The grog is just diabetic shock and booze. All the drinks are the same.
They're strong and sweet. Sugar upon sugar upon sugar and cheap booze. There's no way people are drinking a second one of that. If they are, they're not feeling well.
>> One sip and I start having some heart palpitations and I'm going end up like Big Mama from Soul Food. Are y'all trying to sedate an elephant or something? I like rum and I like a sweet drink, but this is just ridiculous. No human should be consuming that. John is still trying to convince Tracy to change the concept because the pirate thing clearly is not working, but she's not ready to let that go.
>> Next, John lays out his plan to Tracy.
>> She has to market to her backyard. The future of this bar lies within a few blocks of it. I look at pirates. Then I got a corporate high-rise, a corporate high-rise, a corporate high-rise, and a corporate high-rise. And I add up the amount of office workers that are here from 9 to 5. This market is not saturated.
>> So completely and totally changing every aspect of this that has survived for 5 years.
>> Yes.
You're living in the basement of your parents' house with your daughter. When do you say to yourself, "This is my enemy."
>> It's not my enemy.
>> $1 million.
>> It's not my enemy. So Pirates Tavern becomes yet another casualty where the soul has been removed because it's not workable.
>> I don't even know what the hell you're talking about. When I started this business, I said I was diving off a cliff with the hopes that I would grow wings before hitting the bottom.
>> If anything flew from the skies out of nowhere to help you, it's me. If you don't take advantage of this, you'll never forgive yourself.
>> My wings.
>> I can't lie, that line about growing wings before hitting the bottom low key was poetic. I don't know, she was dropping a bar there. I can understand why Trace is so resistant to changing the theme because the pirates theme is something that she really cares about and it is difficult to pivot to something that you might not actually care about, which I think is pretty fair for her to feel because you're not really going to give 100% effort into something that your heart isn't into. I don't hate the pirates theme. I think it's fun. I think it's offering something different to the area, but if the area is not being receptive to what you're offering, you're going to have to pivot or you're just going to stay on a sinking ship. Tracy and John go break the news to the rest of the crew, and they aren't exactly thrilled about the news, especially the same pirate who had a problem with Jon earlier.
>> We have to push more towards a corporate atmosphere and less towards a pirate atmosphere.
>> Not less. Pirates is dead.
I guess we'll have to play pirate somewhere else.
>> Guys, we got to fill this bar for lunch.
I got to fill it for happy hour or we're dead.
>> I think I'll reserve my judgment. See how well you do exactly what you say.
>> Now, is that the kind of attitude that is going to make us successful? Guys, if you don't like what I'm doing, so be it. Cuz I'm not here to prove myself to you. You got to prove yourself to me.
Are you here tomorrow or not?
>> Maybe I'm not.
>> Great. Good night.
>> You're walking out on your family because you'd rather be a pirate.
>> I'm walking out because I've got a [ __ ] yelling at me.
>> Well, somebody has to crack through because your attitude, Mr. Pirate, doesn't work. So, are you going to be a part of this or am I going to run you over? That's the deal.
I am done with this. I am not going to be bered by some overbearing [ __ ] >> I'm not really shocked that that man didn't want to stay because he was not having any parts of this since John walked through those doors, but I want to highlight something that Mike said when John was testing the temperature with the rest of the staff.
>> I know this is a shock for you. Tell me what you think. What are you feeling?
You have no idea how hard it is for a guy like me to get a job anywhere else doing anything else in the world. I have tried and I have given up different jobs to come back to this cuz this is what I believed in. This is the dream I've strove for. This is the thing I've sacrificed for day in and day out and bled for. I know this is hard for you.
So I want you to hear what I'm saying.
You got a great personality. There is a place for you here. You hear me?
Promise?
>> Yes. Let's broaden your horizon.
>> I can't wait to see what this is.
>> Okay. All right, guys. Sometimes change is very cool, isn't it?
>> I'm not exactly sure if he meant it this way cuz he could be referring to him not fitting with certain jobs because of his personality, but I think he was referring to his disability. It's no secret that Mike has a noticeable disability and it's probably been really difficult for him to find jobs that accommodate him and make him feel safe.
I totally get his reaction because this might be the first job where he feels completely safe and he doesn't have to worry about getting looks because he is blending in with the scene and it probably fits well with his personality.
This is just a big adjustment for everyone as they're trying to transition into something new. Chef K Pon and Elaine are doing their best to help everyone train for the soft opening they're going to have, but Jon has also brought on the help of Jesse Barnes to help the weight staff with their etiquette. Ladies, good evening. What brings you here this time?
>> Mike, are are you still a pirate or are we are we back to normal?
>> Fine.
>> Good evening and welcome, ladies. What brings you here this evening?
>> They're a mess. I mean, this is they're insane. It's I I there's nothing I can compare it to. Let's do it in normal people voices and not in pirate.
>> You asked me to have a conversation. So, the first thing I'm going to ask about is what brings you this evening.
>> Yeah, I I understand that. But you're no longer in a pirate bar. So, let's talk like a normal person. You know, I'm I'm just >> What do you want me to do? Like, this is just me.
>> I think that they have to accept the fact that they are screwing everything up before they can move on. And maybe tonight will be a wakeup call for them.
Act like the people you see outside of this place.
>> I hate those people. Okay.
>> I busted out laughing the first time I heard Mike said he can't stand those basic ass people. I can't lie, he kind of caught me off guard in the beginning with his attitude, but I think he's a pretty cool person. And I would have a grog with him.
>> Bro, I knew I liked you, dude. Come here. Bring it in. Bring it in, brother.
>> That's nice.
>> He's probably so used to doing a voice that he doesn't even realize he's still in character. But we'll see how he'll do when the crowd comes in for the soft open. I don't know if I'm tripping, but this crowd seems like it was the largest for a stress test because the whole staff was drowning with the amount of people there. They were messing up drinks, which of course led to people not receiving their drinks on time or they were dropping them. People are also waiting a long time for their food, but that's because Jussiano did not want to take anything seriously and then he ended up throwing a hissy fit.
>> Back in the kitchen, Juiciano is oblivious to any of the restaurant's problems.
>> I'm glad you're having a good time. It's your wife's business, but you're having a good time. Stop around. Pick up a meatballs, please.
>> Huh?
>> Pick up a meatballs, please.
>> What time is the kitchen closed?
>> Juiciano, pick up time in the kitchen.
DON'T ASK ME WHAT TIME THE KITCHEN you're learned tonight that Juciano cannot run this kitchen. Juiciano, is this a party to you or you want to work?
WHEN HE SAYS DO SOMETHING, YOU DO IT.
Get your together.
>> That's bullsh my kitchen.
>> Wait. It's so funny sometimes when I see people do a walk out because I feel like in their minds they think that them walking out means that this place will not function well without them. But that turns out to be the complete opposite.
With just gone, Chef Jason, who they had brought in to help in the kitchen, stepped up and he was able to get the food out to the customers, which he received good feedback for. The bartender started to do better as well with mixing the drinks and getting them out to people in the crowd. I think there was a lot of anxiety that night just because they've never dealt with a large crowd like that. So, they all felt like they were chickens running around with their heads cut off, but I am proud of him for changing around and end the night on a positive note. Just did come back and Tracy said that he probably felt a little bit intimidated that he had professionals in the kitchen with him. Honestly, I kind of feel like his ego was big and he couldn't stand the fact that he actually had to listen to other people for once. So, what is he going to be doing for the re-watch?
>> I guess we'll have to see.
>> One area of weakness that we need is a runner. You know, we need somebody running through food constantly, not not when somebody has time. You know that's a good idea.
>> He's going to be my boss. I think they me everybody.
>> I mean his reaction kind of proves my point. Remember you sp out your own food, so your ego cannot be that big.
Now I did say that Tracy should pivot since the pirate theme wasn't working, but John's concept really wasn't that much better for them.
>> One, two, three.
Oh, that's just what the is that?
>> I'm scared.
>> First of all, I wanted to make certain that all the office buildings and the cars that drove by knew we were new.
Two, I had to communicate that we were for the business community.
And three, I had to communicate that we were food friendly, hence the word tavern is gone.
The whole point of this look is to get those business people to walk through this front door.
>> Wow.
>> Little apprehensive.
>> It's a big change, John. It's a really big change for all of us.
>> Honestly, their disappointment felt so valid because it felt very anticlimatic to what Jon has been promising them. For those who have covered this episode, I don't think I'm an outlier when I say this, but I really do not like Jon's rebranding, at least when it comes to the name. I will admit, I do like what they did with the interior design because it generally does look cool and laidback in there, but that name is not it.
>> I don't know. I have to give this a flop. I'm sorry. I do.
>> Y'all couldn't think of anything else.
The breakroom bar and grill. Hell, Tracy's Bar and Grill. If you really want to make it that simple. Anything else. I understand John's idea was to attract those who work in the corporate buildings surrounding that area, but if someone is trying to get lunch in a break away from work, why would they want to be reminded about work? Also, I feel like that name is alienating those who do not work in those corporate buildings because someone is going to read a sign like that and think that this place is not for them to go try to hang out at. I mean, I'm no professional restaurant tour, but that's just my two cents. Even though they were a little bit disappointed with it at first, the staff did adapt to the changes, and the customers had nothing but great feedback to give for the food and drinks, but Tracy could not hide her distaste for the new changes, and she let everybody know about it.
>> These changes are not what I had wanted.
How bad do we just want a Vatic Grog right now and just be serving that? Huh?
>> We're really enjoying the new place.
Thanks for having >> That's really not what I want to hear.
>> That sucks.
Tracy's attitude begins trickling down to Juiciano.
>> Why you taking your coat off?
>> Don't get my anymore. Let me clean my ass. You see that?
>> Trace, >> are you unhappy? I'm very unhappy.
>> Look at this place. Look at the food prices you did today.
>> Do you realize the sales per guest that you did tonight?
>> I I think I think with time it's going to take us a little while to settle into it.
>> Don't tell me what I want to hear cuz I want to see you be successful. I know Tracy was not super excited about the changes, but to say those things in front of your customers just seemed super unprofessional. I feel like it's pretty obvious to everyone that Tracy was going to switch back to the pirate theme because that's something she really had her heart set on. And I think Jon knew that as well, but he was hoping for her to come around on idea of doing something different. As I mentioned earlier, I don't hate the pirate theme.
I think it's fun, but it just wasn't working. So, I don't know why with the sense that the almighty gave her that she went right back to that theme knowing that it wasn't going to work. I guess the $900,000 debt didn't scare her that much. I'm not even trying to be funny. I truly don't know how they were able to survive three more years after this episode aired before closing in April of 2015. Tracy mentioned in a Facebook post the reason for closing down and she also aired out her frustrations about being on the show.
Unfortunately, the negative publicity, constant prank calls, vandalism, and bogus reviews generated by our unfortunate participation on Bar Rescue have taken their toll. To add insult to injury, late last year, Tapper's crew reached out to me again asking that we participate in a back to the bar episode. They promised that it would be followed by a re-rescue and that they would write all the wrongs committed during the first episode. Obviously, I don't learn, I believed them. with a skeleton staff of former employees who agreed to play the parts. It was basically coerced and staged to be an opening act for a re-rescue. I was told to bring in several changes of clothes to make it appear the filming covered several days. As usual, they brought in a bunch of extras to fill the house, and we were told what to say and with whom to speak. Throughout the entire shoot, the director coached to curse and say the negative things about John Taffer.
He referred to me as the hero, my daughter as the victim, and Jiano as the villain. Basically, we have been [ __ ] by reality TV again. And with no one to blame but ourselves, we have decided not to renew our lease. As Tracy mission did agree to be on the show again to get that remodel, but things just didn't go as planned. When they did get the opportunity to sit down with John Taffer again, they told him that they're going to open up a new bar in Florida called Bar Refuge. Their new bar had opened in 2016 before they sold it to new owners in 2018. Bar Refuge lasted for four more years, closing in 2022, but at least it has some good reviews. Tracy and Justiano got out of the bar and restaurant business to focus on selling art. Tracy mentioned how she had gotten her degree in the arts and how she wanted to shift her energy towards doing that more. I'm not sure if that's something that they're still doing to this day, but I did see that they are still married to each other and they still live in Florida, so that's good for them. I don't usually do this, but I want to bring up a rumor that I saw about what went down on the show. I saw plenty of people agree that John's corporate bar concept was trash. And they are saying that allegedly the bar rescue crew did that as a giant middle finger to the pirates tavern crew because they were so resistant to the change, especially Tracy. Call me crazy, but that sounds like a believable rumor, especially because the new concept just sounded like it wasn't even trying. They probably had the feeling that Tracy really was not going to let go of that pirate theme. And I mean, that is true.
So, they decided early on in the interaction that they were going to make something that none of them really were going to like, >> allegedly.
>> I almost forgot to add that the pirates did get the revenge when they took the sign down, shot it up, and burned it while singing some tunes. They explained it pretty well in their five minute pirates revenge song. Why they did it. I feel like the song didn't have to be five minutes, but uh it was a little bop. It had me humming towards the end.
I cannot lie.
>> I thought definitely I thought it was fun. I like the beat.
>> As I said, regardless, they were going to have to change something, but this redesign just felt like they went here.
Damn. In a different timeline, if Tracy and Juliano had better experiences running a bar, maybe this could have worked out. If the area were more receptive to their concept and if they had trained their staff better, who knows what could have happened for this place. By training properly, I mean like letting them know that they're not supposed to be drinking it as much as they were when they were on the job and treating customers like they actually want them to be there because, you know, those are the people that are going to help you keep the business open. I won't make this long. It's just I feel like Tracy and Juliano had no business having this bar. I think she just wanted a place to have fun and party and have her fantasy as a pirate, which okay, sure, but this is a business at the end of the day and you were just digging yourself into debt with no actual planned insight for how to get out of that. And I just feel like she was so dead set on keeping this fantasy alive and that's why this business ultimately did not work out.
Also, I want to add this in. It's not that important, but I saw some people when I was looking through things on the internet saying that Juliana was Tracy's boy toy. I honestly do not think they're that far in age. Um, the man is from Brazil. I think he's just a Brazilian with some really good jeans. That's it.
Maybe the Pirates Tavern closing was something that was an unavoidable inevitability because they really did have something that was unique, but it just seems like the odds weren't in their favor.
All right, that is all I have for y'all today. Thank you so much for spending some time with me. I really do hope that you enjoyed the video and I do hope that y'all are doing pretty well today. I hope that y'all have been taking care of yourselves since we last saw each other.
Let me know your thoughts about this episode in the comments below. Also, let me know if that rumor sounds like it's something that is plausible because I just feel like they did do that as a big [ __ ] you to them. And I don't know, it just feels like John wasn't really trying to work with her to come up with a good concept for them because I mean his whole thing was like, "Oh, we got to turn into a money-making machine." But I don't know, it just feels weird. The con the concept just didn't make sense and it just seems like it was never going to work out. As always, thank you for spending some time with me. You can check out my other Bar Rescue videos in this small playlist that I have. I'll link it on the screen and in the description and in the pin comment. As always, make sure to hit the subscribe button and to turn on post notifications so that you never miss another upload from me. Until next time, which shouldn't be that long, make sure to take care of yourselves. Do something kind for yourself. Goodbye.
