Mr. Paul's Chophouse is not closing — ownership is changing as family retiresHinzugefügt:
Rumors about the future of one of Metro Detroit's most iconic steakhouses have been swirling online and tonight we're setting the record straight. The family behind Mr. Paul's Chop House says the longtime Roseville restaurant is not closing after nearly 60 years of serving customers from the Groesbeck location, owners are retiring and the restaurant is changing hands. 7 News Detroit's Peter Maxwell is your Roseville reporter and he stopped by Mr. Paul's to speak with owners and customers who say it serves the community more than just as a restaurant.
The owners of Mr. Paul's are retiring but say the traditions, the staff and the menu that customers love is staying put. We love coming to this place. It's comfortable. The uh tradition, the staff, just everything here is second to none.
>> For nearly 60 years Mr. Paul's Chop House has been serving up steak, seafood and memories in Roseville but after social media rumors suggested the iconic Metro Detroit steakhouse could be closing or changing completely, the owners are now reassuring loyal customers that Mr. Paul's is sticking around. We're not permanently closing.
We are staying open to the public, to our guests.
We're here, my brothers are here, then we are selling the business to retire. I sat down with co-owner Christopher Gogo who tells me the traditions, the menu and the ambiance will not change under new ownership.
>> They want to keep it as Mr. Paul's Chop House. That was very important to us. We wanted to keep the reputation going.
We're going to stay with them for as long as they need us to help them and support them in this transition. Nothing's going to change back here in the kitchen. On Friday inside Mr. Paul's Chop House it was business as usual. Chef John Gangler was cooking some of the customer's favorites from prime rib to the French dip sandwich.
>> I've been here 45 years. They just They let me do my thing back here. Jermaine Wilson has worked as the head dishwasher for 10 years and says Chris Paul and Peter have treated him like family. They good peoples. Brothers, they took care of me. Good peoples. Hate to see them go, but at the end of the day is is a time you just got to retire and just spend more time with your family. As the lunch rush continued, servers were weaving through packed tables. Longtime loyal customers continued walking through the doors.
They tell me the restaurant feels like home. Gogol family is a great family.
They treated me like family ever since I've been coming here. I feel like they adopted me and my family. Other loyal customers say while they're relieved Mr. Paul's is not closing, they hope the new ownership keeps its promises. We're hoping that it stays stays the same.
Hopefully the ambience doesn't change.
>> And for Christopher, Paul, and Peter, I I am just so happy and so blessed for this restaurant to continue. In Roseville, Peter Maxwell, 7 News Detroit.
