Let's talk about RUN IT
Added:Oh my god. Okay, okay, I see I see the comments. I see your comments. I will talk about run it right now.
Actually, fun fact. I was going to make a video on run it like 2 weeks ago, like like a couple days after it came out and I had it all recorded. It's sitting right here on my files on my computer as like a raw video and I just never edited it because I did not like how I yapped about it and you know, at the end of the day, I'm a yap channel. I yap about K-pop and K-pop rapping now. So, yeah, and now I got to suck it up and I'm just going to re-record this basically with my updated thoughts a couple weeks later and let you guys know my thoughts on run it basically. So, if you haven't checked out run it, please go do that cuz I will play video examples, but they're going to be very short.
And just to commemorate this, I got my Stray Kids dominate hat from their tour last year, right here.
So, we'll put this on for good measure for the video and put a little shadow on my forehead, I guess. I don't know.
Anyway, let's talk about run it. What did I think about the song? I did not playlist it. Should I playlist it? I am so unsure. This is the most unsure I've been about a song in a while because at the end of the day, it is catchy as all hell. Like, it is undeniably like even if you don't like Stray Kids, I think this is one of their most listener friendly songs they have done in a while and they've had the complaints about them for the longest time, right? One of the biggest Stray Kids complaints was, "Oh my god, it's noise music. I don't want to listen to it." When you think back to stuff like Stray Kids Side Effects, RIGHT?
"OH MY GOD, IT'S NOISE MUSIC. I DON'T want to listen to it." And then they've had many other songs like that where like, you know, the people who don't like them complain. This is the least amount of noise music they have done as a title track probably ever. This is like the most like listener friendly song. So, if you hate Stray Kids, I don't know how you can hate the song if you're complaining about them doing noise music from years ago. Like, I don't know how anybody can just hate this song. I think it's just bad. Now, my criticism for it and why I haven't playlisted it is I think it's a tad boring. I think it is super catchy and a really good song, but it's just something that I'm going to get a little tired of in my playlist if I'm hearing it over and over and over. And that's just me personally and I I get that I'm I'm a very different music listener than most people. However, I'm not here to talk about the song in terms of, you know, my enjoyment of the overall song because uh I'm very picky with my music taste these days. What I'm actually playlisting is very picky for me.
However, what I do want to talk about is some of my favorite parts of the song and what I do like. So, first things first, let me nerd about nerd out about the music and then I'm going to nerd about a nerd out about the rabbit, which I'm sure most of you want to hear and what what the title of this video is related to. So, I'll put some time stamp, you know, oogly boogly stuff if you want to skip me talk about the song, but the song structure of this song is so cool for Stray Kids. Now, Stray Kids aren't like the most cookie-cutter song structure people in the world. Like, they have some really unique song structures and K-pop is not the first time they've ever done something, but like compared to their normal songs, this is such a different twist for them.
At least that's how it sounded like when I first listened to it and did a reaction on Patreon for it, but it also still lives true to this day where the song structure of the song is starting off with vocals. Normally, they start off with raps. Most of the title tracks, there's a Changbin or a Han rap in that first verse, but it starts off with heavy Bang Chan vocals. And then you don't get any rapping until that second verse, which I'm going to talk about in a little bit. But then it ends and it with instead of doing a final hook, which I think is so cool, they just kept the like the hook of the instrumental with the oh oh. Like, you know, I can't sing. I'm so sorry, but >> [music] >> Which I'm just like that is so much better than the typical K-pop party ending that you'll hear with groups like from YG, right? Where they do like a party version as kind of what it's called, right? Uh where people identify it as they'll do a party version of the song and it's like, you know, just like a beat on four on like, you know, every downbeat boo boo boo and then it's kind of they just do the hook with that. But this time Stray Kids are doing a rap over top of the normal beat I think it is so clever. I think it is so refreshing and I think that is one of the, you know, the song structure is one of the best parts of the song to make me want to playlist it, which I really do want to playlist it. Again, I'm very unsure if I want to playlist it or not.
Like I'm so in the middle. I'm like, I'm going to get bored of this in 3 weeks.
But I want to listen to it. So it's like, please don't judge me in my playlisting technique like stylings.
Like I'm very weird with my playlisting ability. Regardless, it is a good song especially for that song structure. But let me talk about the rapping really quickly.
I'm this isn't going to be a 20-minute dissection. I was about to like actually dissect the the flow and everything. But at the end of the day, the flow isn't anything extraordinary for Stray Kids at least, right? This isn't anything mind-blowing that we've never heard them do before. These are all very basic rap flows. So why show you this but finished, right? Like why do that? I have something else I want to talk about the rapping. First, let me talk about Binsung. Because it's not my favorite rap of the song, which, you know, 90% of Stray Kids fans were probably listening to this going, "OH MY GOD, IT'S SO COOL." And it is really cool to hear them go back and forth. Again, I think that is so cool. I think it is very refreshing. It's the first time they've done that since what? Jam?
In like 2024, it's been 2 years, right?
So it's it's been a while and I love it when they're do that where you could go back to um Back Door when they performed that on Loud or you can go back to like the 2019 uh award show where they What was it?
Carpe Diem? I think the song was called.
Um like they've done it a handful of times and it's always really refreshing cuz I think they go together so well and it's part of what makes them so charming as a rap line that they're able to have this chemistry that's very unmatched in a lot of other K-pop groups.
However, however, while this part from Jisung is really cool, >> [music] >> and I love hearing him rap like fast.
Like it's not as fast as he normally means, but I love hearing the like the fast like 16ths and the little gallops that he does there and hearing him go back and forth with Changbin. The the the best part of the song is this, man.
>> [music] >> And again, I'm saying that completely subjectively. This is just me listening to the song. I love going back to this Hyunjin and Felix part they're doing. I don't know.
This is the styling that I I love from Hyunjin and Felix. And I whenever they do these, I absolutely adore their songs when they rap like this.
>> [music] >> This kind of like trappy delivery, almost mumbly, but not like, you know, they're not fully committed to that mumble style, but it has that like that that touch of autotune and like, you know, the slurring between their words.
Really cool and I love that delivery and I think they encapsulate that style perfectly in this second verse and it's probably other than maybe Felix's solo from a couple years ago.
Probably some of my favorite deliveries that both Felix and Hyunjin do. Yes, I know Felix Oh my god, but his delivery when he does his super deep voice on stuff like Third Eye, but I like Look, I am a sucker for this.
>> [music] >> Is there anything technically really cool about it that I can like show you to like give concrete evidence of why it's really good? No. But for me personally, just listening to this song, I not only think the second verse is under appreciated and how well utilized both of these members are in Stray Kids in this part and how perfectly they are placed in here by the writers three Racha, right? How perfectly they are used. But I I think they also embody the part they were given so well. I think that fits their styles so much. If Changbin and Han did that same part, I don't think it would come across as smoothly as enjoyably in my opinion. Um like they they are really good at doing what they did at the end and I'm very glad they did. And again, it's a really cool part. But man, the the part that just takes my heart in this song, it it's that second verse. And I love that.
That's my favorite part of the song. The hook is catchy, don't get me wrong. The the first verse is really unique for Stray Kids first verse in my opinion.
And that last part, that last hook with the Bin Sung rap, it's so cool.
But the part that's not talked about has to be my favorite. And that's part That's the point of this video. I I Nobody's talking about it. I haven't heard anybody in my comments really talking about it unless I bring it up.
And I think it should be talked about more. Hyunjin and Felix went off.
They did well. In the part they were given by three Racha, they had my favorite part of the song. And I think that encapsulates their stylings in terms of their musicality the best. And I think like if they ever do like official solos, God, I hope Felix and Hyunjin both go for this like trappy um hip-hop singing style like that. I think that is perfect for both of them. But, you know, we'll have to see when we get there. I'm sure we're going to be getting Stray Kids solos eventually over the next year or two. Uh obviously, but you know, first things first, we have this awesome comeback coming in a month.
So, we'll see what else they give us next month. For What was it? This and that? This or that? Something like that.
