Healthcare professionals have an ethical obligation to speak out when institutional practices endanger vulnerable populations, and systems that suppress whistleblowing and lack independent oversight can lead to preventable harm, as demonstrated by the Irish nursing home deaths scandal where doctors were instructed to provide only end-of-life care with midazolam, resulting in the second-highest nursing home death rate globally.

Marcus de Brun: The doctor who exposed the scamAdded:
All we were given or instructed to give patients was [music] end-of-life care, midazolam, sedate them and let them die.
Encouraged in paper and black and white, encouraged doctors were, to get family members in to sign do not resuscitate orders.
>> [music] >> You know, all of this was disgusting.
>> [music] [music] >> But the government wants to tell us that these people were looked after, that these were mistakes that happened everywhere. Well, I'm sorry, that's not true. On planet Earth, next to Canada, Ireland has the highest rate of nursing home deaths in the world. And if that is not enough to allow those people the dignity of a full, independent, public inquiry, then we are not living in a democracy.
>> [music] [music] >> The only guidelines we were given as GPs in terms of the nursing home was palliative care and midazolam.
>> [music] >> So, I resigned from the Irish Medical Council because of the the manslaughter or the murder That sounds terrible, but look, it's it's how I feel. The murder of so many elderly residents in the nursing home sector. So, I resigned from the Medical Council. I tried to blow the whistle about what was happening, and it bizarrely, in a very Kafkaesque sort of a way, I got a letter from the medical regulator of the Medical Council of Ireland to say that they placed me under investigation in 2024, basically, opinions in respect of the nursing homes and the vaccine and that sort of thing that were undermining the guidelines.
>> [music] >> So, [music] I've come to feel over the years that looking at the bigger, bigger picture here, it's not about medicine, it's not about science, it's about something bigger.
It's in the realm of good and evil, of whatever [music] version of God or religion one wishes to choose, whatever type of morality one wishes to talk about. But, that's on one side, >> [music] >> and there's something very dark and sinister, and wrong word, but I can't find a better one, and evil, on the other side.
