This video demonstrates solving a Guardian medium-level Sudoku puzzle using fundamental techniques: blocking (identifying where a digit can be placed by eliminating positions where it cannot go), and pair strategies (identifying two cells that can only contain two specific digits, which helps eliminate those digits from other cells in the same row, column, or box). The presenter walks through solving a Tuesday Guardian puzzle, showing how to systematically place digits 8, 7, 2, 9, 5, 1, 4, and 6 by identifying constraints and using logical deduction to fill the grid.

Sudoku solution – The Guardian 2 June 2026 Medium level sudokuAdded:
[music] [music] >> Hello fellow Sudokens. Welcome to Zen in the Arts of the Guardian Sudoku puzzle.
It's Tuesday, the 2nd of June, 2026.
Uh a non-holiday here in Thailand for most people.
I say most people because apparently schools are out Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Monday, Wednesday are holidays.
Schools have got 3 days off because um they just couldn't be bothered to turn up on a Tuesday, I guess. Something like that. I was supposed to start some new work today as well, but that's been put off until next Tuesday.
Cuz people just don't want to do anything.
Uh it feels like you're getting the you know, you might as well take the extra days leave and get 3 days off.
So, if you're a teacher or you are a pupil, there you go. Good luck to you.
Nobody use the word pupil in Thailand.
They use the word student, which I always still also being an old guy. I still associate with university level, and pupil seems to be correct for people at school. But they they issue that here. They call everybody students.
Uh uh students of uh the Labour Party and its problems in the UK will no doubt be looking at the uh files that have been released on uh Peter Mandelson. Yes, he's back in the uh >> [laughter] >> in my videos again. I've talked about him so many times.
But he is a creep.
So, um uh anyway, they have released quite a lot of uh files uh showing that he was given uh access to uh security briefings before he was positively vetted. Of course, you know why, don't you? Because he's one of the old he's in the old boy club.
The old boy club just presumes that everybody in their club is uh you know, okay.
Uh uh it's how they it's how um Burgess Philby, Maclean, and Blunt got away with their uh treachery for many years um because they were just part of the old boys' club and everybody thought, "Oh, they're the old boys' club. They must be okay."
Anyway, um um fans of uh James Bond will be uh will be glad to hear that he managed to meet with C at MI6. C is apparently the head of MI6, we think, and also with Q, head of the MI6 technology. That's the one that has the crazy gadgets for James Bond, we guess.
Uh but it's interesting to note that they use those silly uh letters of the alphabet to describe people uh in the security services.
Shall we turn to our game of Sudoku?
It's Tuesday Guardian medium-level puzzle.
So, >> [sighs] >> let's get to it.
And we are going to start in the middle with digit eight blocking up and down and across here like that.
>> [snorts] >> And we've got seven down here blocking across and down.
Hello, where are you?
Mhm.
A slow start. Okay, I'm I'm not probably probably not woken up yet. Not properly woken up yet.
Let's see if we can spot some easy ones first of all before we go any further.
Three blocking up three across there like that. So, three in one of those squares blocking down here, down there, three across there.
That must be a three.
Three's this way.
>> [snorts] >> One across here, across there.
Oh, that's a lonely five up there.
>> Uh we got pair of seven and two. Seven and two here.
So we got pair of seven and two in those squares there.
So the four blocking down here and then four must be in one of these two squares blocking down. Four across there will give us four in that square. Four across across there and that's a four.
I know where I got to. Seven, wasn't it?
Oh yeah, I said two and seven in those squares. Anything else here?
>> [sighs] >> Uh nine blocking down here so nine blocks down here. Nine is in one of these squares blocking down so that'll be our nine.
Start again, I think.
Uh what's missing in these squares here?
Five and six, I think.
>> Four blocking this square, this square, and this square.
Eight is our first digit to be finished.
>> Three.
Three back there.
Okay, that's also finished now.
One, two, four.
Yeah, we've got another five.
And another one.
Um Five in this row, I think.
And five blocking this square, five blocking those squares, so that's the five.
>> [sighs] [snorts] >> Ah, now I had a two and seven pair there before, didn't I? So So what's left in these? So this is not two or seven, this is one, five, nine, and nine and five are in the same column, so that should be a one.
Seven.
Two in that square.
Over here.
Woman has arrived to feed the kittens, stray kittens that live in live around my house.
I hear her voice, it's very easy voice to recognize.
It's very high frequency.
>> Nine to go here.
Nine blocking this square. We need nine in this row, so it's there and the other digit for the row is one, I think.
Okay, so almost finished now.
Finally got some momentum here.
Uh four.
Six.
Took me a long time to find it, so I should have guessed. I should start looking for digit six first.
Uh nine in that square.
Nine across up here.
Back here for Well, let's put the nine in there anyway. And back here for the five, I think is.
Uh [sighs] nine.
Missing digits up here one and four, so four blocking up there.
Five. Five across there.
That's a four, four across there.
There's a four.
And six to finish the grid. So, that's our medium level puzzle. Somehow it seems slightly trickier than normal. Why was that? I don't know.
Maybe I'm not awake yet.
Uh anyway, that's our Guardian's medium level puzzle for Tuesday. I hope to be back later in the day with some other Sudoku puzzles. Bye-bye.
