In organized crime hierarchies, personal relationships and loyalty oaths often conflict with organizational orders, as demonstrated when Sammy Gravano, despite his personal connection to Nick Scibetta as his brother-in-law, chose to follow the mob's command structure and accept Scibetta's death rather than challenge the organization's authority.

Sammy Gravano's dark secret
Added:Sammy the Bull Gravano harbored a dark secret for over a decade, one that would eventually shatter his wife's family.
Nick Scibetta, Gravano's brother-in-law, started as a promising young man, but soon spiraled into a life of drinking and drug abuse.
His downward trajectory led to several mob infractions.
It started with a brawl in a nightclub owned by a mob associate, followed by a confrontation with the son of a Gambino family associate, resulting in the man's arrest.
The final straw was when he insulted the daughter of Georgie DeCicco, uncle of the esteemed Gambino member Frank DeCicco.
Attempting to handle the escalating situation, Gravano confronted and physically reprimanded Scibetta.
However, as he sought a solution, an order came down from Castellano. Nick Scibetta was to be killed.
Frank DeCicco was assigned the task and instructed to keep Gravano in the dark.
But DeCicco, along with Milito and Joe Stimy D'Angelo, whom Gravano likened to Luca Brasi, Don Corleone's enforcer in The Godfather, believed it was wrong to proceed without informing Gravano.
DeCicco received Castellano's permission to tell Gravano, but with a dire warning. If Gravano opposed the hit, he would be killed immediately.
Upon hearing of the hit, Gravano was enraged.
"I'll take Paul out first," he told DeCicco.
Gravano saw DeCicco, 12 years his senior, as an older brother in the mob.
DeCicco, ever the diplomat, reasoned with Gravano.
"You go to war with Paul, and you will be killed, guaranteed.
In the end, your brother-in-law will still die anyway.
So, what good would it do?"
In Underboss, Gravano, the loyal soldier, reflects, "I chose against Nicky.
I took an oath that Cosa Nostra came before everything."
