You Now Have To Register Your AMMO Or Go To PRISON If You Live In THESE 8 States!
Added:Quite often I find myself digging through arrests regarding ammo, primarily just to see what's going on in the world. Sometimes there's a big theft of lots of ammo. Sometimes people are getting arrested for nonsense, that sort of thing.
So, I came across a story just the other day that got my attention cuz I thought I knew all there was to know about how anti-Second Amendment states can get.
But, I came across an article that came out of Washington D.C. where a man was arrested for an unregistered firearm and 30 rounds of unregistered ammo. And that's what got my attention. I didn't know what unregistered ammo was.
Well, as it turns out, this is pretty common in Washington D.C., in Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, California, New York, and Hawaii. We have different various laws revolving around the fact that you got to register your ammo.
Well, how do you register your ammo? I wouldn't even know how to go and do that. So, in Washington D.C., let's just look at all these states. In Washington D.C., what this means is all of your firearms have to be registered. If you're going to bring a firearm in Washington D.C., it has to be registered.
And you can only have ammo that's for that gun, that registered gun, and that's how your ammo is registered, I guess. So, ultimately what that means is if I get pulled over in Washington D.C.
and I have a 9 mm handgun on me, and it happens to be registered in Washington D.C., and I have 9 mm ammo on me, that's okay.
But, if I had.40 caliber,.223, or.30-06, that's unregistered ammo.
If the firearm is unregistered, the ammo is also unregistered. Well, who else does this? Well, Hawaii requires you to register your firearm and your ammo. Uh so, that's a little bit different. They literally have to have to register with the state that I bought 50 rounds of 9 mm in this brand, that sort of thing. If you live in Hawaii, how's that work? Put it in the comments below.
Chances are it doesn't work. All right.
If you live in Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, or New Jersey, you have to have a permit to purchase, and it's registered under that permit.
Any gun that's registered under that permit, the ammo is also registered under that permit. So, again, if you have a 9 mm that's registered, then you can have 9 mm ammo, but you can't have other stuff. Now, this also means that you can't go over the state line and buy ammo.
So, if for example, if you live in California or New York, where you have a background check for ammo, um you can only have that ammo that you passed the background check for, otherwise it is unregistered ammo.
Now, uh what does this mean? Well, if you get caught with unregistered ammo, a year in prison. A year in prison is what it means.
Um up to a year in prison.
Uh up to a $1,200 fine in DC. I didn't see uh Well, I looked at DC and Hawaii, they were a year. A year in prison, unregistered ammo.
>> [laughter] >> Um Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, Missouri, New Jersey, California, and New York, I couldn't find uh kind of what the consequences. It It's jail time, I just couldn't find up to this amount of jail time, and how much of a fine, that sort of thing. So, essentially, what you are is if you live in DC, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, California, or New York, or Hawaii, you have to register your ammo. If you're caught with unregistered ammo, you're going to jail is what they're going to do to you. You're going to maybe go to prison is what's going to happen. Uh po- possibly you're a felon now.
Um definitely firearm felony, and that's a big one. That's a that's a big one.
It's a big one.
And a lot of problem with this is cuz so if you look at DC and Hawaii, for example, and I guess really all of them for that matter, it's just different, but it's the same results.
>> [snorts] >> Is if you have an unregistered firearm, that's a firearm possession, that's a big crime.
If you have unregistered ammo, now you have a felony that was committed with a firearm, if that makes sense. And that's a much, much bigger problem that you have all of a sudden.
If I go into a gas station and rob it, that's one thing. If I go into the gas station and rob it with a gun, that's a totally different thing, and it's a much, much, much more severe consequence.
So in in depending on which state you live in, it's it's a it's a felony with a firearm is unregistered ammo. And that's that's a much bigger thing. You might as well go rob a store, it's the same consequence, probably.
So, this is clearly >> [laughter] >> unconstitutional.
I'm really surprised I've never heard of this. Um love to know what your thoughts are on this unregistered ammo, or if you've had experience with it.
Cuz again, I I read that and I I don't even know what it was. Like I literally thought, what's that? What's unregistered ammo? How do you register your ammo? Well, again, DC is registered with your registered gun. Hawaii, you literally have to register it with the state. Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, you have to have a permit to purchase it, so only that registered ammo that you purchased with the perm permit. So, when you purchase it, it goes on your permit. You know, so therefore it's registered.
>> [snorts] >> Uh California, New York, you got to pass a background check for it. So, there it is, it's registered, you know. So, if you live in one of these eight states, uh you got to register your ammo. And this is not okay.
And again, if you go over state lines, obviously you're going to not have to register your ammo, but they look at that as a felony if you come back over that state line with that ammo that you didn't register. So, um man, uh I didn't know it got I knew it was bad, but man, I didn't know it was that bad. I'm sorry.
Uh DC, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, California, New York, Hawaii.
Um man, all we can do is just get the word out there, and obviously those local elections are the big ones. So, uh any thoughts or insights, especially if you have insight, if you live in any of these states, what's been your experience, put it below.
