Lumene Falls, located approximately 40 kilometers from Bulawayo in Chivi District, South Matabeleland, Zimbabwe, is a majestic waterfall that exemplifies the region's natural beauty and community-driven tourism development. The video documents a journey from Bulawayo to the falls, highlighting the self-sustaining water systems managed by local communities, traditional cultural practices including rituals at the falls, and the diverse linguistic landscape of the province where multiple languages such as Shona, Ndebele, Tswana, and Sotho are spoken. The falls represent a significant tourist destination that can compete with major attractions like Victoria Falls, demonstrating how natural wonders combined with community involvement can drive sustainable tourism development in rural Zimbabwe.

But this is some wild fruit that nature can provide.
That is is bitter. But this is not This unripe.
I'm just tasting it for content.
Crap.
So bitter.
It changes the whole taste of your mouth. Marvel, yeah, while you're going to the waterfalls, you see a nice beautiful view.
And that's right packed here.

So, you remember the bus that we saw earlier? So, the kids are here having a blast in the river. They're swimming in the natural pools and uh enjoying all the way.
I wish I was still a kid.
Because guys, look at this.
Look at this. Come to Lumene. You will You will have a blast like this.
>> [laughter] >> That's so nice.
Some are playing soccer. Some are just sitting on the water. And she's just one of those. I hope nobody's going to splash me with any water because uh bro, bro, bro, what's happening?

Right.
All the way to from Bulawayo to Lumene.
If a kid is coming and enjoy, you should as well.
You get through the mud and the puddles before you get to where you are going.
But, this is it.
Ah.
Thank God we removed the shoes.
How were we going to win through this mud?
Yeah, as you can see. Like on on the feet here.
This water looks so warm.
Oh, it's cold. Oh, It's very cold.
Looks like it's spring water coming from down to the down from the the mountains up there. But, it's so fresh and nice. If I get a chance, I'll drink it.
People in the How do you feel like you come and throw your bottle of under stride over here in a clean place like this? How do you feel? How do you sleep at night? Just leave the place as you found it because it's beautiful as it's supposed to be.
Come on, man. That's so bad.
In short of what we are going to experience right now, let me show you the where the Lumene Falls begins.
This is it, guys.
And >> [music] >> the sound can tell that there's actually something that happened. Look here.
Nice waterfalls.
As you can see the water has been has been flooding the whole river. You can see it reaching all that side and it was reaching all the way here. But, this is the small waterfalls before we get to the bigger one. But, I'm liking the fact that they managed to put a bridge here that you can cross. It means they care for the for the tourism. That's in Chegutu.
That's in Chegutu. That's sent in the valley.
We are in the river bank of Lumene and heading to the falls as you can see.
South Matabeleland South is one of the They say it's especially densely populated province in Zimbabwe. It's got least densely least populated provinces in Zimbabwe.
The province itself, the provincial capital is Gwanda, the second biggest town is Beitbridge. It's one of the provinces that has got two borders. It It It's got two borders. Plumtree border post. That's the main border post to get into Botswana and then there's Beitbridge border border post. There are some other border posts as well. And um And one other thing that I I like about Matabeleland South is that it's got uh it's one of the province with many language that are spoken there because it borders about two countries. So, there's Tswana spoken, there's Ndebele, there's Shona, there's uh the Tonga, there's also Venda and uh uh Sotho that's spoken in in lower southern Matabeleland South region.
So, in terms of um in terms of tourism, it's one of the tourist destination One of the tourist destination, of course, [music] is Matopos. Matopo, which is a the the burial place of Cecil John Rhodes, the one who conquered Zimbabwe. And um there's also some animal sanctuaries around the areas. So, it's actually a beautiful place.
We are almost there.
We are making progress. You can hear the sound here.
>> [music] >> This one is getting tired already.

But, this is it, like this is it, guys.
Look at it.
>> [music] >> Ah, let me change my shoes.
This is Lumena Falls, guys.
I'm tired, but the effort is worth it.
As you can see from here, you see here, this is how Lumena Falls looks like.
All the way from down there, this is how it looks.
We walked.
We traversed all the way from Wow.
This is it.
This is it, guys.
This is it.
We traveled all the way from Harare and we get here to this majestic here in Livingstone.
And look at it.
Woo!
Oh.
This is nice.
>> [music] >> I don't know what's happening here.
People are putting lemons and all, but this is how it looks.
>> [music] >> I don't know if anybody can hear my echoes.
No echoes.
>> [music] [music] [music] >> I can spend all day here. I don't even care. You don't have to call me. You don't have to remind me where I am. I can spend the whole day here because this is beautiful. Look at it.
Look at it.
Look, brah.
Look.
All the way up there.
This is Lumene.
I can imagine when it's in full capacity, when it's raining, when the river is full, it will be so much abundance of joy and water.
>> [music] >> It's happening here.
These people will come in and do their rituals.
They burn candles. They leave candles. I see. I also saw some rice just putting there and people are doing their own rituals. But we believe in the God, God of the living.
But this is the place.
We made it, brah.
>> Yeah, we made it.
>> We made it.
We made it.
So, from Bulawayo, we took a a cab down to Maweni.
Then we drove all the way from Maweni down to Lumene, where we hiked for about 7 km until we reached to these falls here. As you can see how beautiful they are, how nice they are, and it's a marvel to look at.
It's a marvel to look at. Look at it.
Geez.
Uh So, I'll get you guys out of here then.
So, guys, there are There are people here who are doing rituals and as you can see this one is throwing rice on the water and there's other people here doing whatever things that they are doing but we are not scared of that because we serve a living God and this is the This is the place. I don't know what they are doing but we just mind your own business because we are here just to see those falls but I can mind because there were kids here but they saw all these things but anyway this is what uh we are seeing here is the waterfalls.
Yeah.
Smelling alcohol every everywhere.
So keep your mind about but I didn't really bother my life so I just leave it.
Hey.

I've been to beautiful places. I've seen nice places, but this one is one of the most beautiful place that I have ever seen. And uh You got to love this place, man. Look at it.
Look at it. Down from there, you can see the water is coming from up there and then it goes down there. It's beautiful.
It's beautiful.
Very beautiful.
Whatever is happening, I don't care.
Whatever they are doing, I don't care, but I'm just enjoying the nature.
So, guys, this is it and uh We have come, we have conquered, we have seen Lumen Falls. And there is no better place that we can end this video other than here. And I'm glad we really had fun and we managed to see the place, how beautiful it is. And it is very encouraging that we can talk to the people responsible for tourism and they can make it a marvelous place. I'm glad that they have they've managed to put a road that connects to the place to the waterfalls. I'm glad that there are people who are who are collecting funds and the funds that are being put back into the into the community and developing the area. So, this is actually a marvelous place. It can be uh uh develop it can actually manage to compete with places like uh water the Victoria Falls because this is just 100 km from um from Bulawayo. So, it's a beautiful place that you can be you can be at. So, this is Lumen Falls, guys. And uh one last time, you can see how beautiful it is, how marvelous, how good God's creation is.
