Soft, Hard & Glowing Pink? Calcite and Quartz Explained

[00:00:00]Rock of the day, pink fluorescing calcite.

[00:00:06]This piece is a great example of calcite showing a soft lumpy botryoidal texture.

[00:00:11]It scratches easily with steel and on the blue UV light, it glows pink.

[00:00:17]A classic sign of manganese activated calcite. Some areas are harder than others and that tells me there's quartz mixed in.

[00:00:26]Why is it interesting? Cuz calcite can look chalky and soft in one spot and hard and shiny in another, all in the same rock.
