This game turns the genuine struggle of being unheard into a sophisticated parlor trick for the over-educated. It is a performative way to romanticize isolation without ever facing its actual consequences.

Intro to SignAdded:
All right. What's up, y'all? My name is Shay and this is uh like speaking without using words is [music] tough. Uh but one of the things that is uh significantly worse than that is not having a language. such as the case uh quite some time ago, maybe 40, 50 years at this point uh in uh Nicaragua where many of the deaf population was brought together to teach them how to read lips. What happened instead was a birth of what became the uh national sign language for uh for that area. [music] And this game sign is uh I guess that's where this comes in uh as a way to show people what it is to be in a place without uh a language or I think as the game puts it as a game about being understood. Uh the characters take the role of children in a school uh over the course of uh over the course of several school days. And I guess the main goal is just to be understood. The game uh is played in complete silence.
And one of the elements that I probably like the best is the compromise system.
[music] So when attempting to communicate the truth of yourself to someone else uh [music] and if you're unable to come up with a language to do so, if you're unable to to to convey that truth to someone else, you have to take a mark. Uh in this game, by default, this is done with a Sharpie uh or some other indelible kind of thing. I mean, Sharpies will go away in a couple of days, but for those days when you look at your hand, you'll see the things that you couldn't say, the things that you couldn't communicate, the things that were lost with a lack of language.
It's a wonderful game. It's very cool.
It's got lots of uh like the artwork uh is done really well. Most things take place on full cards. Uh each of the cards has a full backstory of the characters and then you work together to come up with words uh and language. Uh yeah. I know it's a little one, but it's uh it's definitely good. Four to seven players, runs one shots about two hours or so. [music] Um and yeah, no, I'd highly recommend to run it a couple of times. It's [music] good good stuff. But so that's it for that one. Uh it's a pretty pretty [music] short one, pretty rough highle overview, but if you liked it, if you had any good experiences with the game, please leave them in the comments. uh if you think the the that it's not such a great game or that it's difficult to get people that you think might be able to play something like this, tell us about that. We can [music] have a chat about that as well. So, thanks again for sticking around and yeah.
