What should we have for dinner? You can spend a whole evening with someone you genuinely love and not once say anything that actually matters. And the strange thing is, this can happen for years before either of you clocks it. The friendship looks fine, the marriage looks fine, the family looks fine, but underneath, two people who used to know each other in real depth have quietly been running on emotional autopilot. And the person sitting across from you starts to feel more like a roommate than someone who actually knows what's going on inside of you.
