This is a masterclass in turning architecture into a high-margin financial asset through clinical engineering. While the transformation is impressive, it prioritizes market-driven opulence over the soul of a living space.

I'm Grandma.
>> [music] >> There's [ __ ] mayhem here, but it makes good telly.
I'm not sure I could live here.
Let's demolish.
Welcome to Beverly Hills, Los [music] Angeles.
Now, I am looking for a house in Beverly Hills, myself.
Because it's one of the addresses I've always wanted.
>> [music] >> So, today we're meeting Max Beesley. If you don't know who Max Beesley is, he is a [ __ ] legend.
[ __ ] hell. Thanks, Sam.
Welcome to Palm Springs.
This is the real reason why we're here.
Michelle's 50th birthday, and she's always wanted to go to Stagecoach, which is this huge country music festival. We're off [music] to get the tickets this morning.
We've got 26 people here that are all in different hotels dotted around Palm Springs. I lived here for 6 years on and off >> [music] >> when I was much, much younger. But everything's changed since I was here 30 years ago. But it's exciting. [music] So, I want to make sure it goes well for Michelle today. We're staying at Grandma's.
My mum's. That's me. And she's recently done the house up. It [music] looks fantastic. The garden looks amazing.
She's decked it all out and spent, you know, fortune on plants.
But we're going to pick the tickets up and make sure everything runs smoothly.
Bearing in mind, we've got super duper tickets, which are artist pass [music] tickets, and we're in the diamond lounge with the family and both of them are buzzing.
Exciting [music] stuff.
>> [music] >> I'm Grandma.
We're in Jim Mirage, which is Palm Springs, in the desert, in America, California, another day in paradise. I'm opening a gallery here now.
God knows what it'll be like. Of course I'm still working. [music] I am only in my 80s. But we bought this 2 years ago when we decided to move out. And then it was beautiful.
And then we demolished most of it and rebuilt it cuz Don's a builder who I'm married to.
I draw it.
He builds it. We've just finished that little deck back there. Well, 2,000 square foot deck. It's a party house. We have lots of people here all the time.
Down.
Sit down. [music] No sign of stopping. It'd be a bit late now. Yeah, I'll stop. [music] We live outside.
It's beautiful every day.
Oh, I'm smoking.
>> [music] >> Finally here. Made it in.
In the Diamond Lounge. 100,000 people.
Beautiful women everywhere.
[ __ ] good-looking pricks as well, covered in tattoos, cowboy [ __ ] hats, loads of stalls.
Jack just fell out of me cuz I wanted to do this for Mom.
And I said if you can do it today, I'll give you five figures.
Jack just fell out of me.
And somebody else sold him the camera. I need to go and repair it with Jack in a minute. I thought it was a nice thing to do. Happy 50th, [music] Michelle, all the way around. He's like, "No, I'm No, absolutely not. I'm in control of finances, blah blah blah." Anyway, I'm enjoying the atmosphere. [music] When that [ __ ] kicks off, I mean, you've got a million quid worth of speakers on there, and it's [music] [ __ ] madness. So, we've just picked a little break. I love the trees, love the canopy. Never been to a festival [music] in me whole life before.
The first one is the biggest one in the whole of America, maybe even the [ __ ] world.
>> [music] >> We had a storm.
Use the music.
It was hell on wheels.
>> [screaming] >> It came through at What was it?
60 mph. [music] It's so scary, you mean.
What excited you?
Here we are at Stagecoach.
Never been evacuated. Everybody, what 20,000 people need to leave right now.
I'm totally on to Jack's middle finger.
You've You've 120,000 people leaving.
The wheel's going to blow over. The stage has been closed. It's [ __ ] mayhem here. But it makes good telly.
Easy tiger.
>> [music] >> We all like a bath.
Yeah, I love a bath.
>> [music] >> So it's nice to see me mother.
Place looks good. Came What was it? A year ago?
A a year ago.
I love what you've done cuz that was all grass around the back. Yeah, it was.
Love the You want to just turn that down a bit, would you, that TV?
>> [music] >> Thanks.
I love what you've done to the house.
Really love that round the back.
>> You do? Feels [music] twice the size.
Actually feels bigger now that there's less grass. But it's like a sort of Beverly Hills bougie hotel. The yellow towel, the striped sun beds. And what have you done And what have you done with that? You painted it.
Yeah, and uh heat resistant >> [music] >> paint.
>> feet don't burn. Your feet do burn?
Not on that it doesn't.
>> you know? No. No. On the deck it will.
Palm Springs for me, I mean, I don't know, 80 years old, you live in 120°.
But it's dry. It's dry heat.
>> It is a dry heat. I've just said it's like God's waiting room. So all the old people come here. But Cuz they It's good for you.
Gorgeous.
Oh, amazing. I can smoke more. So mom used to have We both smoked like chimneys, didn't we? I'm not sure I could live here.
Out of the three locations, Palm Springs, Vegas, Los Angeles, for me, Los Angeles every day every day. Where people want to live. Palm [music] Springs is retirement. Vegas is just too busy.
Um but I could live in LA and I am going to actively look for something in Beverly [music] Hills or up in the up in the hills. You do what everybody else does in LA. They come here for weekends.
They've all got holiday homes here.
>> So, people don't live here all year round. No. Only you. No. No, I don't live here all the year round. We've got We've got [music] friends in San Francisco and >> People live in LA and they come across.
That's [singing] what happened in the old days. In the old days, the movie stars used to come here, didn't [music] they? Yeah, they all have homes here for the weekend.
But the old question, could I live in California? Absolutely, yes. But I think for me it's it's LA. There's more of a market. What about the Kardashians and the What's that lad's name? [music] Justin Bieber.
>> place here, isn't he? All of them have.
They have weekend [clears throat] places.
>> I'm not [ __ ] building in Palm Springs.
That's the nicest possible way to say it. I'm not doing Palm Springs. It's too hot as well. Imagine the lads out here working. Even in December it's 100°. No, it isn't. Yes, it is. It isn't. It is.
It isn't.
It is. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it is.
No, it's not. Okay, what is it then in December?
You rang me the other week saying it was 100°. That was unusual.
See, it is. IT'S NOT THE WINTER.
>> In August, the [ __ ] chairs melt.
You don't get it.
You don't get it.
You know, getting up It's what I have to deal with, see?
Oh.
She came out one day for an offer 20 years ago, walked in fully dressed, handbag on, walked straight in, and just [music] literally jumped into the pool cuz she was about to die.
>> I did.
>> [laughter] >> It's true. Do you remember that?
>> This house is probably worth double now, what you paid for it. Yeah. In what?
In the Uh 6 >> 3 years? Or 6 months? No, we only started 2 years ago. A year. A year ago.
We move quick. Give me 100 men. And I'll do the job myself. Yeah.
>> [laughter] >> That's the thing. No, but I mean labor's expensive here. And then If you're a tradesman, it's 150 [music] an hour. No, it's [ __ ] not. An hour?
An hour. Who's paying anybody $1200 a day? We are.
So, the laborers in Palm Springs earn more than the [ __ ] president.
Probably. And you don't need any more money. No, he don't need any money. He gets paid a dollar actually anyway. We got wasted last night till 2:00 in the morning. We did. That's why I'm a bit glazed, look.
>> Yeah, me. Red eyes. She said to me yesterday, "Will you see me again before I die?" Which I don't like you saying, and I said, "Well, I hope so." Well, the clock's ticking.
You had a flying you had.
Okay.
So, yes.
I spoke to all the kids. They could live here. They'd love it. Yeah, they'd love it.
So, we're going to look. So, Jack will get on it. Try and find a tired, run-down property that can either be flattened or refurbished, and we do what we've done in the South of France and in the East Midlands and in Ascot, London.
Yeah. And let's do it here. But, property's on its knees at the minute.
So, it's a good time to [ __ ] buy, is what I think.
So, it's good to see you, Mum. Thank you very much for everything you've done.
Everybody's had a great time. I'll call you later.
>> I will call you once a year now. Once a year? That is good. [laughter] Yeah. Just not my birthdays, Mother's Day, and Christmas. That's three days.
You don't want me to call you on those days? No. I want [music] you to do the other nine months. Once a month. You promise me on movie. And when I do call him, "I'm just going into a meeting. I'll call you back."
A month later, I said, "That was a long meeting."
>> [laughter] >> But, it's nice to see you, Mum. You've had a great trip. Stagecoach was fantastic. Vegas was fantastic. LA was fantastic. Last leg and then back to work.
>> [music] [music] >> Straight back into it.
>> [music] [music] >> Literally got off the plane 3 hours ago.
Rather than going home first, I've come straight to site because you know how excited I get about [music] super homes, especially the beginning. Beautiful beautiful site. Look at that old shitty house in a stunning stunning location.
But I can hear work going on already. I reckon it'll be digger.
But he's round here.
So this is when we demolish stuff. I love it. All this lot will be ripped out. THERE HE IS!
DIGGER!
HE'S ALWAYS ON THE MACHINE.
HOW ARE YOU, DIGGER?
Straight from America, straight to see you before anybody else. How are you, mate? I'm good. Still wearing the same clothes when you left? Oh, always. Yeah.
It's a beautiful site, isn't it, when the sun shines?
So you're I take it digging a hole to make sure we've got no water. Yes.
I know you've had all the trial holes done, all the ground investigation done, but this is the real way of finding out.
And so far [music] so good. I love demolishing. Do you know what?
I might be the first Come on, Digger. COME ON, DIGGER. OUT THAT TRUCK. Let's demolish.
LET'S DEMOLISH.
HEY, YOU GO. I'M TO BE BIT FOR YOU.
I'LL GIVE YOU ANOTHER ONE. We'll rebuild it. Don't worry about that.
You all right?
Good.
Lovely, lovely people.
And I want to make this extra special for them.
Shaughna, [screaming] are you in? Hi, I thought I could hear you. How are you?
How was America? Fantastic. I've just literally [music] come from the plane to here right now. How are you, Chris?
See, he's so selfish, bastard, Chris. HE BRINGS HE BRINGS HIS OWN COFFEE.
LOOK, A BIT OF ADVERTISING. This is Chris and Tony [laughter] telling you to run quick. If you want to go there, you book through Guy Phoenix website and I get 50% commission.
>> [laughter] >> So, Shaughna, you didn't give me the keys.
I know. So, what I had to do was I kicked your door in. You broke in.
I broke in.
Ordered it up. We've got in through the back door.
What you have got here, Louise, Yeah.
is loads of space. Look at how they used to do it all. Look at the horrible lights.
Radiators, strip all this out. You're not going to use any of this stuff, though, Shaughna. No. No.
Get rid of all of this.
This is just an empty shell. All this will be smashed up. Yeah. All these doors gone.
The reason you've achieved a great size house is because you've got a bungalow with an enormous footprint.
Right. And and that's what translates to the planners as it's already been used as water dispersal and all that sort of thing, but look how bad it is. You like looking at all the old stuff. I like it. I like looking at how people live. Look at what a fantastic job someone did of that. Would you mind painting that and don't miss it. Look look at it. It's just shocking.
I mean, who painted blue and it's a beautiful job.
>> [laughter] >> GUY, YOU'RE BREAKING THE HOUSE.
I THINK DURING COVID we thought, let's let's build our own house cuz it's always been something we've always wanted to do because we travel a lot and we see a lot of ideas from abroad and then we saw this house but actually they said it was sold or not for sale or she wasn't interested. So [music] we put a note through the letter box and said that we were And they came they came back to you. And she rang us up and said if you'd like to [music] have a look and we came along with our three children and she said I'd like to sell you the house cuz you're a nice family of like five [music] and she was a family of five as well and so Cuz I did look at it. Yeah. She obviously said you're not She She says you're not such a nice family. [laughter] You you had to put your big nose in it.
Yeah, put it in.
>> [laughter] >> DON'T SHOOT, CASEY. THAT'S THE BAD ONE.
YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO TELL me not DO IT FOR ME.
>> [laughter] >> I'M VERY EXCITED for you and it's going to be a good project.
>> Yeah. Thank god we've got loads of space and we'll get it Yeah. But [music] next time you see them, no house. Yeah. And then slowly it will come on. [music] >> Yeah. And you can watch it >> Great. I'm looking forward to that.
>> [music] >> Exciting exciting exciting stuff.
Digger has started leveling out the ground. We're all [ __ ] arguing. I'll tell you why we're arguing. Shut up.
I can't show you a lot because it's secret.
