Can You Feel Lonely in Thailand… Even With a Thai Girlfriend?

[00:00:33]I stopped because I thought it might be interesting to get some cows on a video and they've all run off. If you can hear noises in the background, it's because somebody's having a party as somebody always does in Thailand.

[00:00:47]Doesn't matter where you go, it doesn't matter where you stop, you can always hear the music. And if anybody sees me, they're going to think, "What What's going on there, then?"

[00:00:56]>> [laughter] >> I want to talk a bit about loneliness. The only people who really emigrate over here are the people who are single.

[00:01:07]The people who are already alone, the ones who enjoy their own company, which I do.

[00:01:14]But the thing is, you've got to be aware that one day, sometime, you'll get lonely.

[00:01:24]And that is exactly what I am is is lonely. I am lonely today. There's 70-something million people in this country and you feel alone. You feel [snorts] very, very lonely.

[00:01:36]And there's nothing really you can do to avoid it. I wanted to get a cat.

[00:01:42]And the reason being is because I felt lonely. The missus goes away and she's gone with her sister somewhere and her son and they'll spend the day and they'll they'll do their religious thing and then they'll come back home. I think to be honest the the missus could be home be at home, but I'd feel lonely.

[00:02:05]And it's nothing against her. She she treats me like a king. She always she's always there when I go to her. She's always got a smiley face on her and she's always happy, you know?

[00:02:16]And I'm always happy. Always happy. And like I say, it's no it's no disrespect to the missus whatsoever and it's no disrespect to anybody that I know over here.

[00:02:26]But I've got cows in this field.

[00:02:32]And I could talk to them. All right, cow.

[00:02:35]Do you fancy a chat?

[00:02:38]Because I need to speak in my native language.

[00:02:43]And you don't understand my native language. In fact, you don't understand anything that I say.

[00:02:49]So, I could talk to you.

[00:02:52]And then you could talk to me in moo language.

[00:02:56]And that'll be fine.

[00:03:00]Do you see what I'm saying? Cuz over here you are alone.

[00:03:06]You are the person who was all all always been outside. It doesn't matter how well you integrate. It doesn't matter how well you know the people. It doesn't matter how how well you speak the language. It doesn't matter.

[00:03:20]You will always be an outsider in this country. These feelings, they don't come all the time. They're not I wouldn't say they're everyday. They're you know, it's probably once a week or maybe once every other week is is I feel lonely and I'm thinking well, what can I do to fill that loneliness? And then I think, well, I'll have a cat. But the thing is you don't really need the cat once or twice a week or once every other week.

[00:03:44]You know, whatever it whatever it is.

[00:03:47]So, looking after it is a bit of a burden and I came very very close to getting a cat.

[00:03:55]But I'm I'm sort of glad I didn't because I need it for a reason is the loneliness. I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't go out, I don't I don't party, I don't do anything anymore. I've stopped it. I've been there, I've done that.

[00:04:12]And I've got the I suppose I've got the wounds from it as well. Now all I do is I come out, I go home, I speak to the missus, I learn some Thai, she teaches me every now and again, and I teach her the proper English phrases which she can remember a lot better than me. My memory has never been good. It's it's never good.

[00:04:35]And now it's even bloody worse, believe it or not.

[00:04:40]So I find it really really hard to learn the different language.

[00:04:44]And Thai's not very easy when they've got cow cow cow cow cow. Five words for cow.

[00:04:50]No.

[00:04:52]It's a cow that can mean five things depending on how you say it.

[00:04:56]Because Thai is very tonal.

[00:05:00]So it's a hard language to learn from the start. I honestly think that even if I spoke spoke native Thai and I could understand everything that anybody says, I would still feel lonely.

[00:05:13]Every now and again I'll have that that feeling of I'm alone in this country. Now I've moved to Surin, which is where I want to be because it's a beautiful place as you can see. You've got fields of Well, they're not green at the minute, fields of rice. If you go to Pattaya and you and you enjoy life, you know, you've got the finances, well, good on you. But I ain't got the finance to do that.

[00:05:38]Which is one of the reasons why I moved to Surin.

[00:05:42]I mean, the main reason I suppose is because the missus was here and I I I moved in with her and I don't regret it. I don't ever regret it. Not at all.

[00:05:52]It was very very hard moving in with a woman like that. The the Do you know, I've known her you know, I've known her for 2 years and I don't regret it.

[00:06:05]Because you know, the chinks in the armor start showing after you've been with them for a few months and and there's no chinks.

[00:06:12]No one's going to question why I'm here.

[00:06:14]No one's going to question why I'm down this road. You know, in England if you went down a road, I mean it's sort of middle of summer temperatures, but if you went down a road with t-shirts and shorts on, you can guarantee within 5 minutes somebody will come up to you so will come up to you and say what you doing over there.

[00:06:31]You know.

[00:06:33]But here you don't get that. I was looking at prices to get back to the UK on a return sort of flight obviously.

[00:06:43]And it was close to a grand.

[00:06:46]And when I came over here 2 years ago, it was 820 quid.

[00:06:50]So it's gone up 160 quid. The price of the of getting back to the UK is astronomical really. I can't afford it.

[00:06:59]He came past me with a big bloody smile on his face.

[00:07:04]Didn't question me, nothing. You know, in England people people question why you're doing something all the time and that because I don't know if they're jealous, I don't know.

[00:07:14]They just want to know every every part of your life. Well, you know, I'm I'm I'm sharing of all of my life. I don't care. Thailand is a beautiful place. I can't tell you how much beauty beauty it's got and how how calm sabai sabai sort of you know, I don't need to try any any more.

[00:07:38]At first I suppose I was in England.

[00:07:41]I was still living the life in England.

[00:07:43]I was still thinking of the life in England and it takes you a long time to slow down, but when you do, you start looking at Thailand as your home. When I was young, you know, I remember how England used to be. I remember the beauty that it had.

[00:07:58]And I I don't I don't dislike England. I don't dislike Great Britain.

[00:08:05]I dislike the people who are running it and what they're doing to it because they're destroying its natural beauty.

[00:08:12]So, over here, yes, yes, it's a it's a very, very good life to live because it's there's there's no pressure on you.

[00:08:21]There's no stress.

[00:08:23]So, yes, it's a very nice life to live.

[00:08:27]But you do get very, very lonely at times. It's it's so hard to explain how you can be in a country with so many beautiful people, smiley people, happy people.

[00:08:38]You can leave things I could leave that motorbike there or scooter, whatever it is. I could leave that scooter there for 6 hours and then come back and I can guarantee it'll still be there. I could leave the key in, helmet on there, everything. 6 hours, it'll still be there.

[00:08:55]Cuz none of these cows will steal it.

[00:08:57]You know, it's quite weird that when I feel lonely, I come to a place that I can be alone.

[00:09:03]You know, the one thing about Thailand is it always gives you a sign. You have to think hard about a problem and the answer always comes to you.

[00:09:14]I thought it was a a thing where, you know, I used to go to the temple on the hill and I used to sit there and think about things and then the answer used to come to me, but I can go anywhere. You know, at the start, when I was in this relationship with with with my my woman, the missus, I used to think, "Yeah, I could could do without her.

[00:09:38]She's not You know, I I I could quite enjoy living here alone.

[00:09:44]But, you know, I wouldn't want to live there alone now. I wouldn't want to live on my own. I couldn't I could live without her. Yes, obviously, but I wouldn't want to.

[00:09:56]Because she makes me happy in everything that she does. She goes out whenever she wants. She does whatever she wants, and I do whatever I want as well.

[00:10:05]And at the end of the day, we're both there for each other.

[00:10:09]If anything happens, I know she'll be there, and if anything happens to her, I'll be there for her. I can't explain the feeling that I get being in this relationship, but it's not like any other relationship I've ever known, you know, with all the expectations where you've got to do this, you've got to do that, you've got to go here, you've got to go to work, you've got to come home, you've got to do When you come home, you've got to mend this, you've got to do that. And I've got nothing. I've got none of that.

[00:10:34]I've got no pressure on me at all to do anything. It's happiness from within.

[00:10:38]It's not It's not a a facial sort of happiness. It's It's true truly happy. I am truly truly happy. I suppose the worst thing you can do when you feel lonely is get in a relationship with somebody.

[00:10:53]And at the time that I got in the relationship with the missus, I wasn't feeling lonely at all. Anyway, I'm going to get back on scooter, and I'm going to head home.

[00:11:04]Cuz I'm 25 30 km away from home. I didn't realize. I wish I could explain it to you.

[00:11:13]But, when you come over here, you'll understand and and you will realize that it it's a lonely country to live in. And I suppose I'm not saying that Well, I'm not saying Thailand itself is a lonely country to live in.

[00:11:27]If you go outside of your native country, I think you'll feel the same. Anyway, ladies and gentlemen, I'm going to end this one because I've got to get back home and I'll catch you next time. And I'd like you to remember that life is definitely worth living on this measly earth.

[00:11:46]All you got to do is get out there, do what makes you happy, do what makes you smile, and bollocks to what anybody else thinks.
