Stop Playing Basic Gospel Chords.....4-3-6-2 Passing Chord
Added:All right, let's work out in the key of C today. We're going to be talking about 4-3-6-2.
Um 4-3-6-2 is a route or a passing chord that we commonly use in gospel music.
It can be applied a lot of different ways. Um what I'm going to show you today can be applied in a song or it can be applied in like talk music. So, if you're a beginner, you probably play 4-3-6-2 very, very basic. You probably play it something like this.
>> [music] >> That's 4-3-6-2.
Um another way you can play it is like this.
There's a lot of different ways you can play 4-3-6-2.
That's what makes us as musicians unique because we all kind of have a different way of playing things. The way I'm going to show you how to play 4-3-6-2 is like this. Um I really like this way. This is just really unique to me.
>> [music] >> Super, super smooth. So, I'm going to show you how to apply it to a song, but I'm going to show you how you can apply it to talk music as well.
Um I want to use my drone pad. This is a app that I built called Presence.
Um it's a nice drone pad ambient worship pad that you can use in the background of your keys. Um so, the keys are out front, but this pad is kind in the back.
So, let's [music] say this is talk music, right?
You got that pad in the background, right?
Here's the [music] move.
This is how I look at passing chords and routes. I don't want to assume you automatically know what it is, but this is how I look at it.
If my destination is the two, again, if we're in the key of C, if the destination is the two, the question becomes how do I want to get to the two? There's a bunch of different ways and there's a bunch of different routes you can take. There's a bunch of different chords you can take. Um What I just did, that's still 4-3-6-2 in the key of C.
Um so, the landing spot is the two.
That's something I want you to remember.
That's something I want you to keep in mind. So, here's the move one more time.
>> [music] >> All right, let's break it down. So, we're starting on the four.
In our left hand, we have F and E.
But, in order to get to the E, we're using this D right here and we're bouncing into the E.
>> [music] >> Right? And then in our right hand, so, we got A, E, A.
And we're using the same thing. We're using the D in order to get to the E.
>> [music] >> Right? So, that's the first chord.
And then we're using a leading melody line in order to get to the three.
>> [music] >> So, All right. Now, we're just shifting down.
Left hand, we have E, >> [music] >> D, and then we're using a C in order to get to this D.
Then, right hand, we're just shifting down.
G, D, G, >> [music] >> and we're using a C in order to get to the D.
Let's put it together.
>> [music] >> Melody line again.
>> [music] >> Left hand, we have A, E, C.
This is somewhat of a stretch, but the stretch is what makes this chord right here beautiful on the six.
Then, in our right hand, we have D, G, >> [music] >> D.
And it's really, really nice if you can play this um chord on the six on the lower uh octave of the keyboard.
Like, down here [music] has its place, but down here just sounds so much better when we're doing this.
All right, let's put it together.
Now, we're using a melody line going to [music] the B.
>> [singing] [music] >> Now, we're going to land on our two.
The chord on the two is D, A in my left hand, and then in my right hand, we have C, [music] G, C, and then we're um adding in the F2.
>> [music] >> So, we got C, F, G, C.
>> [music] >> And that's the two. That's the whole entire progression right there. So, let me show you how it applies to a song.
We're going to use the song to worship you I live.
>> [music] >> Move.
>> [music] [music] >> Let's do it again.
>> [music] >> Move.
So, the move in a song like that falls in a weird spot, but that's what makes it unique. So, on the second round of to worship you >> [music] >> to worship you I live. I live to worship you.
Um let's do it again.
>> [music] >> To worship [singing] you [music] I live.
To worship you I live. I [music and singing] live to worship you.
I I that is a really unique move, and I want you to try it out. Tell me what you think down below. This is a new channel, and we're just now getting started.
