Witness Hadzabe Tribe Big Baboon Hunts & Cooking in the African Wilderness | Hadzabe Tribe Hunting
Added:Out here, a hunt is not always decided by the shot itself.
Today, the hunters are tracking one of the most wary and difficult animals to approach in the wild.
>> [music] >> As the sun rose above the horizon, a group of hunters left the village and headed toward the rocky hills in the distance.
Their target was not the strongest animal on the savanna, but one of the most difficult to approach, the baboon.
Baboons are highly alert and always have individuals keeping watch over the surrounding area.
Their tracks were not easy to find.
Along the way, the hunters spotted a few half-eaten wild fruits beneath the tree.
Farther ahead, they found freshly broken branches and new scratch marks on tree trunks.
All of these signs suggested that a troop of baboons had passed through the area not long before.
The group immediately slowed their pace.
After hours of following the trail, they finally caught sight of dark figures moving along a distant rocky cliff.
One adult baboon sat high above the others, constantly scanning the surroundings. It looked like the lookout for the entire troop.
The hunters quickly crouched behind low bushes and remained still.
But only a few minutes later, the sentry baboon seemed to notice something unusual.
It let out a loud warning call.
Instantly, the entire troop became restless and began moving away.
Within seconds, they disappeared among the [music] rocks and thick brush.
The first opportunity was gone.
No one seemed discouraged when the first opportunity slipped away.
They understood that hunting baboons had never been easy.
The group continued moving forward.
The terrain ahead became rougher and more uneven.
But it was here that fresh signs began to appear.
>> One hunter quietly raised his hand, signaling everyone to stop.
The entire group froze instantly.
After hours of searching, the baboon troop finally came into view.
They were gathered around a small water source, nestled among large rock formations.
The hunters did not move in right away.
They knew that if their scent was detected, or if a human silhouette appeared at the wrong moment, the entire troop would vanish in seconds.
>> [screaming] >> A few hunters silently circled to the left, using the massive rocks as cover.
Every signal was communicated through eye contact or the slightest gestures.
Soon, only a few yards remained between them and their target.
Then, suddenly, one baboon lifted its head and stared directly toward the bush where a hunter was hiding.
The entire group nearly stopped breathing.
But after a few tense moments, the animal looked away.
The final opportunity had arrived.
One hunter slowly drew back his bowstring.
There was no rush. After hours of patience and waiting, all of his focus was fixed on a single moment.
Then, the arrow left the bow. It cut through the air in near complete silence.
This time, there were no chaotic alarm calls, no long chase across the hills.
After hours of careful observation and patience, the hunt had finally ended successfully.
For them, the most important part was not the moment of success itself, but the entire journey that had led to it.
Once the catch was brought back, the work was far from over. It simply moved into another stage that was just as important.
Some people quickly prepared an area for processing the animal, while others gathered additional firewood and built up the cooking fires.
The animal was processed in an open area at the center of the village. Those with the most experience handled the butchering.
Carefully separating [music] each cut of meat to ensure that nothing useful went to waste.
Younger members stood nearby watching closely, occasionally helping with simple tasks.
Here, many survival skills are not taught through formal instruction.
Instead, they are passed down through moments like these, by working side by side and learning through observation.
Once the preparation [music] was finished, the meat was carried to the cooking fires.
The steady crackling of burning wood filled the air as thin streams of smoke drifted upward into the late afternoon sky.
Some cuts were roasted directly over glowing coals, while others were prepared using traditional methods that the tribe had practiced for generations.
The aroma of food gradually spread throughout the village. Children began gathering around the fires with excited expressions.
Constantly asking [music] when the meal would be ready.
Meanwhile, the adults prepared the food while talking about the day's hunt.
They spoke about the tracks they had followed, the long hours spent waiting, and the unexpected situations they had encountered along the way.
As the first portions of food were ready, people slowly gathered [music] into small groups.
The food was shared evenly and passed from hand to hand in a natural way.
No one rushed.
After many hours of hard work, this was the moment when the entire [music] community could finally enjoy the results of their collective effort.
Laughter, conversation, and the smell of food blended together, creating a warm atmosphere in the middle of the vast wilderness.
Children ate while listening to stories told by the adults.
The elders quietly enjoyed [music] their meal while watching younger generations gathered around them.
Perhaps one of the most valuable things was not the amount of food each person received, but the simple fact that everyone was present in that moment.
Because sometimes abundance does not come from having more.
It comes from having people with whom you can share what you already have.
As the meal gradually came to an end, the fire continued to glow softly.
Some people sat back [music] and rested after a long day.
While a few children returned to playing in the open space nearby.
Conversations continued beneath the [music] flickering firelight as stories flowed from one person to another.
The day would eventually pass, but moments like these were what kept the community connected and helped them move forward together season after season.
As the afternoon slowly comes to a close, a familiar sense of peace settles over the village.
The day's final tasks are finished.
Making way for one of the few moments when the entire community can truly relax.
Children play near the fire.
Adults sit together sharing stories.
[music] And from somewhere in the village, the occasional sound of singing drifts through the air.
After a long day spent facing the challenges of the wild, this is the time when everyone can sit together and enjoy the sense of peace they have created as a community.
Life here offers a simple but meaningful reminder.
People need more than food to survive.
They also need connection, support, and a sense of belonging.
It is these ordinary moments, sharing stories, laughter, and time together, that have kept this community strong and united through generation after generation.
The day's work is set aside, making room for shared stories, [music] easy laughter, and time for everyone to enjoy the rewards of a long day together.
New journeys are still waiting ahead.
We'll see you again in the next stories [music] and adventures on the channel.
