Let's get to it.
Heat.
Heat.
Hey, welcome back Vice Script Garage.
I'm Derek and this is the going to town tour 2026. Black Hills to Badlands.
We're super excited. We just pulled in at our first stop, the old O'Reilly Auto Parts. We're going to gear up. I'm with a ton of my friends and we're going to have a ton of new friends. There are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of cars invading western South Dakota. Here's the plan. We're going to take our old junk boxes. I ended up with this Nova after my Firebird time. Wow.
And we're going to drive this thing.
Well, today the first leg is Piedmont to Legendary Sturgis to Belfoo to Deadwood Lead. And that's where we're going to end tonight. But then we're going to continue through the hills all the way through scenic back roads, Needles Highway, Mount Rushmore, Keystone, Hill City, uh tail or uh pigtails. We're going to do Kuster State Park. Then we're going to go all the way across the Badlands on my secret road. And then we're going to end up at Berto for the end party and the museum. This is going to be a tremendous amount of fun hanging out with friends, meeting new friends, and seeing if our rigs can survive.
Let's jump in.
So, I know some of you are going, "What is the Going Towns tour? I haven't heard of this." Actually, a large majority of you. Well, it's a show that I've done for a few years that I've renamed.
Actually, this is the fourth year that we've done it. We started doing this seven or eight years ago. Uh we actually uh started in the Black Hills, did one in Minnesota, then we did a tour in Wisconsin. It grew so fast we couldn't get our arms around it and it ended up being unorganized chaos and I didn't want it to be a vacation that people didn't enjoy. So my wife and I pinned it up. But now we've got enough great friends and volunteers and fans to really help us organize this show. So we brought it back and renamed it Going to Towns tour. The goal is simple. Meet up with like-minded people in the car community, the car culture, and get them connected to the local communities. go through small businesses, small towns, gas stations, antique stores, you know, sites to see, and things along the road, and just explore as a group. And we're doing that again right now in western South Dakota. We're starting off in the Black Hills, and we're going to end up in the Badlands. Now, next year, we're going to advertise this a little bit more, and you'll probably hear about it.
We wanted to start with a smaller group again to make sure that this was enjoyable. And we also needed a smaller group because 176 cars mathematically is one static mile of traffic. We have hundreds and hundreds and hundreds more than that. A lot of these small towns the traffic line is going to be longer than the town. Well, that just means we're sitting in traffic overheating.
So this year I just wanted to kind of keep it a little smallerish group. Next year we're going to open the dam on this thing and you'll be able to join us.
Just follow along on the social medias or on the channel here and you'll hear about it. Now, how this works is pretty simple. There is a route, very detailed.
I mean, literally turn by turn instructions. It has feet. It has things to do, places to stop, places to eat, you know, touristy stuff. It's really designed to create a vacation environment for families, kids, things of that nature. And there's checkpoints along the way where you can check in and it kind of is a breadcrumb trail. Now, the cool thing is you don't have to do that. You can just willy-nilly come and go off the route if you want. You can not even follow the route and just show up at the spots where we're hanging out and have fun. But if you do do the checkpoint and you make it all the way through the route with your rig to the end, you get the coveted town hall award, which is a big metal sign. I'm going for the town hall award. I want one in the shop. So, we're at our first uh stop here at O'Reilly Auto. We're going to get some parts. We need a door crank, some fluid, some things like that. And then we're going to head on towards the next stop is Wif Motors. So, of course, with the rigs that we drive, the first stop I put on the route is in O'Reilly. And thank you to O'Reilly.
They're letting us crash two of their locations. They have gigantic parking lots at these spots so we can come in and make sure that we got coolant and electric fans and, you know, air fresheners and cup holders and things of that nature. I need a window crank for my truck that my buddy Chad's driving.
They used to have them on the wall back in the day. Here they are right here.
And we'll get some other stuff and then we're going to hit the road.
Here I go.
Heat. Hey, Heat.
Where's that uh my pink Thunderbird at?
>> It's up there. Somebody wanted to buy it.
>> I sold it. Okay, >> that's pretty good. Yep. Pretty good.
So, we stopped at a gas station, got some ice and stuff to wet the back neck.
One of the stops along the trip is Welful Motors. You guys have been here many times, but now there's a whole bunch of people wandering around, which is great. Hopefully Roger can rehome some of this stuff, but I am on the hunt for a pink Thunderbird that I bought allegedly and had dropped off here. I've never seen it. So, we're going to go up on the hill, try to find it. And I've got a bunch of other cars here too that I just want to kind of, you know, make sure they haven't disappeared. And then I make a plan to forget about them for another decade. Basically, it'll be fun.
That's my Riviera, right?
My Fiero, my Dodson.
Does anybody see a Flutterbird? Look at this lumina.
>> Wow. Oh, there's meat rotting in there.
Don't do that. Don't do that.
I don't know where. Oh, there it is.
That's got to be it. Oh, look at the the wagon ear with the plow.
That's cool.
Thunder Bird.
>> Thunderbird.
>> First last name.
>> Yeah. Oh, yeah.
>> Wow. This looks like trash. So, that's good. I don't know why I bought this.
There's no key.
Okay. Well, here it is. I should probably see if it has an engine. I guess it's got complet. The tape on the wires look great.
Yeah, I overpaid, but that's the story of my life. So, here it is. You'll see it on the channel in 2049.
Oh, wow. This is freshly remodeled.
See, this is what I'm talking about.
If you get what comes in the in the Oh, where's Jessica?
Jessica, come here. I need you.
No way.
No way.
>> Weren't we just looking for those?
>> Yeah.
>> This look like some good Pyrex.
>> See? Let's see if we can make a deal.
>> You really want to drive these around in the car, though?
>> I want to take the whole camper and then he'll throw the bulls in.
>> No.
>> Oh, okay.
Oh, this thing's got a hot 350 in it.
Yeah, we should make a deal on this one.
It's just missing everything on the motor.
There's something dead in there, but that's fine. Oh, I think that's my Cadillac. Or not that one.
One of those finn. That one up there.
All right, Roger.
>> Well, >> it's great to see you. We'll see you again. I mean, obviously, um I hope so.
>> I'll probably Are you coming tomorrow then?
>> Riding with your friends.
All right, so we walked all over this place, memory lane, looking at stuff, tried to buy a few things, maybe made a couple deals, not really sure. Now we're going to head off from here, go to the back roads to legendary Sturgis. They have the Sturgeist motorcycle rally there. They have a really cool motorcycle museum, a bunch of stuff like that. But we're going to head outside of town to the Full Throttle Saloon. This used to be a TV show back in the day.
There's a lot of eclectic weird stuff and signs and industrial things. It's really cool. We'll probably get a bite, some refreshments, and then we're going to continue our journey. This has been a blast already.
Heat. Heat.
Heat. Heat.
So, the legendary Full Throttle Saloon during the Sturgeist Rally. You can't even walk in here. It is a sea of bikes.
A really cool place. Again, this is our second location outside of town. Uh we left late, like 11:00, so a lot of the cars are ahead of us, but it seems like there's a lot of people here eating lunch. There's probably 50 60 cars.
There's a bunch more pulling in. We're going to go inside, see the sites. They got a distillery, moonshine, food, all sorts of cool stuff. Let's go check it out.
A little bit of everything here.
There's a sign back here that says, "The bar is dedicated all the men, women, and equipment that built this great country." The pieces of equipment in here are just ginormous. It's actually really cool.
Well, we are up on a I don't know what you call this skywalk. They got a couple legit old school like train bridges and stuff over here. Three of them. It's been a while since I've been here. the metal sculptures, signs, all sorts of different buildings and stuff. Really fun place during the Sturgeist Rally. I've never been here off season, but we're filling this place up, having a lot of fun. We're about ready to roll again. Getting some Chick-on strips.
I I don't know. We're going to head north on 79 and then across one of my favorite highways over to Belfoose, South Dakota, where is the geographical center of the continent, I think. I don't know. Let's go find it.
See what it says.
We are in Belfoo, South Dakota. There's a couple reasons I wanted to come here.
obviously O'Reilly Auto Parts, but the geographical center of the nation and all the back roads, farm communities.
There's a ton of old farm equipment, iron, stuff like that, cars, things of that nature. We're going to top off here with fuel, some groceries. I'm going to run in, say hi to the O'Reilly's guys.
We have absolutely filled their parking lot. We are starting to catch up to the group, I think, little by little, which is kind of wild cuz we're in LA a little bit, but this has been a blast so far.
No one's broke down in our group. Oh, I just It's probably going to be Adam and the Honda.
That's not Adam, but that is the Honda.
Adam's going to be like, "What in the world?" No, this is actually Actually, let's go through this quick. We got my daily square body. Chad, not Chad or the other Chad, but Chad the Eagle Great is driving that. Ricocheter are driving the Tri Five. Andy and his father are driving Firebird gear. Uh that's a new friend we've picked up a lock away.
That's Chad Good. And the 400 in that car is the one from the uh red volunteer douly. That thing's running great. This is our friends Adam and his wife. This is Cody.
And that is a movie correct police 178 cruiser, including the missing lug nuts on the left front. Don't worry about that. And then you got Heidi and the camera Chad rolling in the uh what is that thing? Dodge Challenger.
>> Okay.
>> It's pretty slick. It's got AC and stuff, I guess. You know, they didn't want to drive old things. No, I'm kidding. It's really nice. She's giving me the how dare you look.
All right, I'm going to go get an air freshener, say hi to these guys, and then we're going to get fuel and go over to that uh Lambark thing.
Okay, we made it to the what is this?
Center of the nation visitor center.
Tri-State Museum. I've been through Bell Foo Belefore a Bajillion Niner 411 times.
I'm embarrassed to say I've never stopped here before. This is a cabin built in 1876.
And right down here is the geographical center of the continent, which is like weird that it's here. It doesn't seem like it would be here, but it is. It's right down here. We're going to go stand on it and go, "Yep."
And then we'll just go after that, I guess. But I think that's what you're supposed to do. Here's the cabin.
Buckskin Johnny cabin.
Uh, okay. Blah blah blah. Yep. Mhm. He lived here for 11 years. Uh-huh. Got it.
Yep. Something happened. Yep. Moved the city. Okay. Got it. Mhm. All right.
Quaint.
It's probably 140 square foot. More than a guy needs, but it'll do.
How was it? Exciting.
>> Yeah. It was a lot like standing where you are, only it's down there.
>> Okay.
>> Got it.
Okay. Here we go. Getting closer.
Warmer, warmer, closer.
I thought it was just going to be like a Nintendo coin on the ground, but it's like a whole thing.
Can you stand on this? I don't know if you're supposed to. This looks expensive. If I break it.
Okay, there it is. The geographical center of the nation. You are here.
>> Made it. Okay, >> was good. So, we just got into a full fisticus between us here.
>> I was saying continent >> which has like Canada and there's other things up in the where the >> Santa Claus comes from.
>> It's the nation allegedly, but I think there's another one of these, isn't there? Like the four corners or something. Arizona, New Mexico, uh Colorado, Utah. They also claim it.
So what they're doing is they're saying if you go here and buy a snowshoe and then you come over here and drink sewer water and get a seashell. This is the center of the I don't know. I don't know stars and stuff.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, so we finished going through the plains from Belfoo and started working our way into the Black Hills. We just went up legendary Spearfish Canyon past Bridal Veil Falls up by the Latching Restaurant or Spearfish Canyon. During the summer, it's like hiking, touristy stuff. During the winter, you rent snow machines and do all that. Worked our way through Leed and now we're in Deadwood.
And I stopped in at Mount Mariah Cemetery. This place is legendary.
Deadwood is an old gunslinger gold town from early 1800s. And on this hill is buried Seth Bullock, Wild Bill Hickok, the famous card player, gunslinger that got shot. Preacher Smith, he was murdered in 1876, I think. Potato Creek, Johnny, Calamity, Jane, and much, much more. We're going to walk up here and see if we can find their grave sites, pay some respects, maybe do some EVPs and EMF detecting. I don't know what we're doing. And this hill is I'm out. It's the Legoses and the Honda Maximuses are burning, but we'll see if we can make it. This should be fun.
up yonder about three miles more. It's easy. Mr. Thompson, I think 18 26 I think that says all these grave sites are like really really old.
They're doing a tour up there right now, so I'm not going to yell too loud. We'll wait for them to leave and then go up.
Hello. Here I am. Wild Bill Hook. He's somewhere in this thing. And then up behind that is Calamity Jane. He died with the dead man's hand or what it's called. Two black aces, two black eights with an unknown hole car. Someone probably just sat down and kept playing his hand. We don't we don't really know. I just heard from the tour bus driver there's 900 people buried in a potter's field, which is just a place for unknown people to be buried in this vicinity. It's kind of spooky, actually. A lot of this stuff, like I said, is very old 1800 stuff.
Okay, we're going to take some photos, catch some ghosts, and then head downtown Deadwood. It's all of the old storefronts, general stores, drugstores, mercantiles, saloons, brothel, things of that nature that are now converted to casinos and hotels. It's actually really cool. And the street is still bricks and stuff like that. It's pretty awesome.
Well, good morning. Last night was a lot of fun. We ate way too much. Had some Rocky Mountain oysters. Did anyone win money or are we all down? You won.
>> Nice. Okay. Well, we're going to pretend I am, too. Anyway, we stayed in the Bolic, which was built in 1895 by Deadwood's first sheriff. This used to be the edge of the town, actually, and he sold it in 1905 to Mr. Ayes and it was then known as the Ayers walk. You can see up top way up there. It got changed. It's a really cool hotel. It was originally 63 rooms. Now it's like 32 or something like that. We all got haunted last night. I'm not really sure.
There was some weird stuff that happened though. But anyway, last night was incredible. This town was virtually everyone we ran into had a wristband on.
They were doing the go in the town tour.
Taught cars all night. Had a lot of fun.
We're meeting up with a big group this morning down here on the edge of town after getting some coffee and we're going to roll through the heart of the hills. Today is going to be absolutely breathtaking and incredible. Tons of stops. We'll see Mount Rushmore today, Keystone, maybe Hill City. We're going to see if the needles are open and we're going to end up all the way down in Kuster by Kuster State Park after doing a loop down there. It's going to be really cool. Let's get after it. We got a fun day.
So, a guy did pick an original route of taking 385 cuz it's kind of a historic road down towards Pacola Reservoir. And then we jump on 16 from there. But they're doing some road construction that hasn't quite finished. It's got some gravel on it. And um you know, we got some vice grip cars, but then we've got some really nice rigs out here, which is great. I love seeing people out here driving them, but some folks don't really want to go on that gravel. So, we're going to go down Roford Road, which is really cool. It's paved now. It used to be all gravel, but now it's paved. So, we're going to go down that.
And it's going to be a lot of nice turns and switchbacks. And it's going to go around uh Mystic Lake, which is really cool. And it's going to drop us into what's called Hill City. And then from there, we can go over to Keystone, Mount Rushmore. You know, we got a couple different directions we can go. So, this is going to be a lot of fun. And that's the great part about going to towns is we just go to towns wherever, however.
But right now, we're linked up with a group of I don't know, 40 cars, probably, >> maybe even more. There's a bunch ahead of us. There's a bunch behind us.
They're on different routes and routes and everything. Uh we'll all be converging on Mount Rushmore later at different times. Uh but this has been a lot of fun.
Heat. Heat.
just jumped out. We just landed in Hill City. We came down the back way and boop. Came into a fuel station here.
We're going to fill up, go walk around, talk to some folks, kind of come up with the plan. A lot of these people haven't done the hills at all, which is a part of doing this. I want to move it all over the country to my favorite spots.
So, I'm going to kind of come up with a plan to do Mount Rushmore, the Needles Highway, which is incredible, like handcarved tunnels and stuff. You'll get to see that obviously, and then we'll come back up through um the pigtails.
So, let's go find some folks, kind of lay out a plan, see if we can keep this group going. But this isn't the only group traveling. There's groups all over the hills right now. But, it's fun in a group like this.
Ooh.
Oh yeah.
Nat.
So, we just went from Hill City to famous Keystone, South Dakota. This is another mining town. It was founded in 1883, and it's famous for its boardwalk. There was a lot of shopping and dining and things like that. And then it really changed in the 1920s with Mount Rushmore, which is right up over the hill here. That's going to be our next stop. But of course, we're going to explore first. Uh the ruby house is up here. It's really cool interior. We're going to go see Taffy Made. See if we can find some more dream catchers. And we have the 1880 train arriving right now at the depot over here. We uh just perfectly, you know, timed this out. A lot of planning went into to this shot right here, you know. No pure luck.
Yeah. Actually, you know what's kind of cute is they do the Polar Express during the winter time. So, you can get your hot chocolate right on the train and it's all whimsical and cool. Really cold, but cool. So, >> corner over here on the back.
You got Lakota made. Oh, look at this one. That's beautiful.
Wow.
Okay, we're gonna have to get Andy in here. He's He's hot for a dream catcher.
I'm making everyone jealous with my dream catcher I got. It's a nice uh Cherokee bead work one, but these are Lakota. They're also very beautiful.
>> These are Navajo.
>> Oh, these are Navajo.
>> These are Navajo. These are Canadian.
>> Canadian.
Oh, I see. I see the difference. Bigger feathers, right? That looks like an Andy one right there.
Oh my.
We need a turtle shell hammer. I mean, you got it.
Okay, let's go find them. We know a hot spot now.
>> Navajo, Canadian.
>> Lakota.
Canadian. Did you say that one?
>> Something about Canadian, right?
>> It is Canadian. That's what >> I thought maybe.
>> Looks good.
>> It's never coming off.
>> Can you do a little spin maybe?
I need a picture.
Don't take video.
Here we are. Mount Rushmore. Those heads up there were carved ropes sitting on wood things and a little bit of dynamite. Now, they look massive down here, but they're actually 60 ft tall each. Sixstory buildings, and the noses are 20 ft long. Here's something no one knows. See George Washington right there? Thomas Jefferson was actually being carved on this side of him. If you look close, you can kind of see the carving markings. And then they figured out the rock wasn't suitable and actually moved them on the other side. So, George Washington always wasn't going to be the first one.
I didn't make that decision. I wasn't there that day. Okay. But this place is incredible. Actually, when I was a kid, I've been here 397.4 times. This was the parking lot. There was no fancy stuff and flags. And there was a walking trail where you could go down to a museum and see the picks and hammers and ddabs and whatnotss, but now it's a beautiful facility. And I could come here time and time again, and it's amazing each time. We're going to get a little bit closer, take some photographs, and then coming up next is Iron Mountain Road. And it's good. Real good.
Come on, smile.
>> Guys, in the gift shop here, I found a belt that I just have to have. Mine's getting a little worn out, and this matches my leather person pouch perfectly. Speaking of leather persons, Mount Rushmore is really, really beautiful. But I have one more that is also incredible and significantly bigger. Crazy horse. It's about a 27, 30 minute drive from here. We're also going to go check that thing out. It is amazing. Let's hit the road. Got a belt, babe.
accidentally dropped.
So, here we are at the beautiful Crazy Horse Monument. That is Chief Crazy Horse back there. They chose, the Native Americans chose Crazy Horse because he never signed a treaty or ever touched a pen. Firm leader. Some Polish guy started this. Mike Wazowski or something. I can't remember his name. He passed away. He had 10 kids. So, I guess they're still up there carving. Or maybe not. Not really sure. You could probably You should probably fact check that. But anyway, let's go to the museum and get another dream catcher.
Check this out.
Worth the price of admission. Okay, so we checked out Crazy Horse here. Here's what we're going to do. As the kids say, we're going to turn it up. So, we're going to leave. No matter how we do this, we got to come down the same road to get to Kuster, which is where we're going to end. So, we're going to go back, do the Needles Highway, and we get to Thread the Eye of the Needle. It's just beautiful rock formations. It's crazy when you see it. Carved tunnels.
Then, we're going to go on 16A for just a scoosh. Then, we're going to go down Iron Mountain Road. I call it the pigtails and you're going to see why. It is absolutely incredible. Then we're going to end up right back in Keystone and then go down the same road that we just went down. But new stuff on the way to Kuster.
Not the ice cream. Custard Custer.
Okay, let's go.
Where?
This is just absolutely breathtaking.
And that's the tunnel we just came through.
And that way out there in that flat area is Kuster. That's where we're going to stay tonight.
We got bison right there just munching on some grass, hanging out. Bail, is that you? Oh, Fred, sorry about that.
Heat. Heat.
It's a rare species of Chad.
We made it to uh Kuster, South Dakota.
Uh funny story, we almost ended up in Wyoming cuz my gyps wasn't working and we went way too far. By the time a guy booked his own meltail room, everything in town was booked. All the motel, we ended up with these little cabin things, which is actually pretty fun. And there's a bunch of other likeminded car folks doing the going to town stuff out here, too. That's going to do it for day two. Absolutely mindbogling.
Tomorrow we got a little bit more hill stuff, but we're going to work our way towards the Badlands and we're going to go on back roads just the heart of the Badlands. It's going to be absolutely beautiful as well. And basically no gas stations. Also an 1880 town. Full town.
Never been there. Driven by many times.
Should be a lot of fun. We're going to end in the Myrtle Museum. We'll walk through that and we're going to hand out the town hall awards as well and then that will be a wrap. But there's still plenty more to see. We'll see you guys tomorrow morning.
>> Well, good morning from the Kuster High School junior senior things with all my friends here. Everybody say hi.
>> Hi.
>> A big group of us met here at the high school this morning. A bunch left early.
I think of looking at the parking lots.
They may have gone into the wobble pops a little hard. There's some people leaving late and that's fine. We're just here to have fun. Speaking of having fun, this won't be I got to fix this thing. It does not want to idle or go forward very good. And I'd like to do that today because we have to get to Murdo through the Badlands. They're not actually that bad. They're bad for horses, but not for cars. Very historic cowboy Indian territory. I'm looking forward to it. I need to put sparklers in. So, what I'm going to do is not do that and then do an italon tuneup and then just say it's good and then we'll see if it runs better. And if it doesn't, I've got a 350 on the way. We'll just swap it quick. Okay, that's fine. I think what's happening is my friends are telling me when I decelerate or go down hills that the car smokes quite a bit, but it doesn't smoke under acceleration.
So, acceleration smoking is typically That's auto shut off. We don't want to waste fuel.
When it smokes on acceleration, that's usually rings. When it smokes on del, it's usually it's pulling vacuum. It could be the valve seals or something like that. But anyhoo, what I'm saying is the sparklers are just all oiled up and uh some vitamin B here. I'm hoping it just wicks them clean really quick.
Plus, sparklers aren't that cheap anymore. You know, they used to be a buck 35. They pay like $9 for them now.
It's ridiculous. So, let me uh hit the remote start again. We'll see if we can clean this out.
There might be some rings flying that way. Watch out.
Help me.
>> Yeah.
Thank you.
tuned.
>> I might do one more. It's running a little better. I think one more will one more will get it there.
Heat. Heat.
dang old sewing machine.
>> And uh thank you to Barryman for never sponsoring me.
I think graduation starts in 16 minutes.
So we got to move.
>> Oh, she's perfect.
Good to go.
>> What a machine. I have a story to tell you about this car. I technically don't own it already and I'll tell you that at the very end. It's actually a really cool story and I'm proud and happy at the same time.
Okay, we about ready to go. Okay, there is Did anybody do the needles yesterday?
>> That was awesome, huh?
>> Yes, it was.
>> So, you know, there's a little construction over here. I apologize about that. When we pre-ran the route, that wasn't happening yet. So, we didn't really know about that. But there will be that one flagger guy down here. Uh, but that's okay cuz we could look at the buffalo. Did anybody see those?
>> Yeah, we saw elk, buffalo, sheep, big orange sheep. There was something else.
alligator.
Um, I don't know my animals, but we're gonna follow the main route kind of basically over to Hermosa. There'll be some back roads. We're going to take Highway 44 to Scenic. Um, and then we'll cut through the uh, Badlands Loop up into the 1880 town. Uh, there's not a lot of fuel stops. So, if you're on Highway 44 and you're going, "Ofta, I'm at a half." You better fill cuz I mean, well, there's a lot of people to push, but I don't know about that far.
So, >> there you go.
>> All right, let's uh anybody could lead.
I'll get us going, I guess. But have fun. Bop around, beep around. Uh just be careful. Leave a little room for your neighbor. And uh let's have fun and let's hit the road. Okay. All right.
>> All right.
We're actually early for once. Wow.
All right.
I found you.
Heat. Heat.
beautiful.
So you Look at these temperatures right here.
Is that Fred again?
Marvin Yeah.
Heat.
This little hill right here is an old abandoned railroad track. Must be from the early 1900s.
something like that. Look at this old bridge here. We've kind of been following it along. It has some really short old tosts every now and then that would have been just for telephone.
They probably weren't doing anything with power yet way out here in the Badlands.
This whole town is about to be absolutely filled with hot rods. I called ahead and warned this uh owner here that we're coming in and she was so thankful and um got the restrooms prepared for us and everything like and this is going to the towns tour. Traveling where no one travels. Seeing the people that built this great country, rural America. You know, the old cowboy corner here in interior South Dakota. Used to be a railroad running through here. No more.
Look at all this.
It's awesome.
I don't know how many hundreds of cars are in this group this morning. I know there's an earlier group that left and then there's a later group leaving.
This pretty much sums up Vice Grip Garage. This old square body, GTO, Dodge Viper, Square Body, old Chevrolet, Suburbanator, but we're all the same people. It's incredible. The bathroom lines longer than the traffic line, by the way. It's out the back door and front door.
Well, we just scooted through my favorite back roads from Kuster, South Dakota over to Interior South Dakota.
Yes, like exterior interior. I'm sure you haven't heard of it. No one has.
It's now just a small ghost town on the map, but there's one of my favorite gas stations in South Dakota, the Cowboy Corner. I called them ahead of time this morning actually again and said, "I'm bringing like a hundred of my friends with me." And they about fainted. She called a friend to come in and help her run the till. Extremely thankful. And that's what going to town is about.
Seeing all of the towns that you don't normally see unless you avoid those highways. Rural America, the people that actually built this country and all of the fantastic stuff that comes with it.
We've seen so much history. We saw an abandoned rail line. They saw old farm equipment and cars and trucks and all the caddles and farmers and ranchers out here in the bad land still trying to survive in the bad land. We have taken over this town. The church is full. The streets are full. Whatever. This thing is full. That's the highways. This gas station is completely jam-packed. And what makes me even happier is there's two or three more of these groups somewhere floating around doing the same thing that we're doing, visiting these small businesses and towns. And it puts a big smile on my face. We're having so much fun. There's everything from conversion vans to campers to 40s and 50s cars to motorcycles and trikes to really shiny nice stuff. There's a Dodge Viper over there, new ZL1 Camaro, 70 Camaro. regular old just things they've revived from watching the show and it really fills my heart. We have not had a ounce of negativity or complaints or everyone is just overjoyed to be here and having fun and I'm humbled. It's my birthday today and this is the best present ever. I'm going to finish up my uh Dr. B pepper here. Eat some pickles. And then we're going to go up through the Badlands Park northwest to Wall. Get our free bumper sticker. It's a town founded on ice water. I'll explain that in a little bit. Then we're going to go to an 1880 town. They have I don't know how many buildings, but it's literally like stuff. And then we'll end up in Myrtle for the big party. and we're going to hand out the town hall award if everyone did all the stops and all that stuff.
I'll explain that to you later, but we're having fun cruising. Cheers.
So, here we are actually pulling into the Badlands.
This is a nice little Well, we're technically have been in the Badlands for a while, but this is one of the more scenic roads. It kind of winds back northwest, but it's going to take us the back way up to Wall And you can clearly see why the natives called this land bad.
Wasn't much good for, you know, farming, raising, hunting, homesteading, anything like that. But it just beautiful to look at.
Nice.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Heat.
Hey beep.
Yeah.
Just incredible Pinnacles Overlook and it quickly goes from that to this.
We just went through the bad lands.
OMG, as the kids say. Absolutely breathtaking. Just incredible. Had so much fun. And looking back over my shoulder and seeing just really cool cars and trucks and motorcycles winding through there, enjoying it as well.
Really fun. Now we're in Wall, South Dakota. I wanted to bring people here.
There's a lot of history in this town.
And of course, Wall Drug, who has billboards and stickers literally all over the world just through smart marketing. They have bumper stickers on tanks and aircraft as well. Literally, you have got to research this. That's no joke. This general store was struggling way back in the day. People were whizzing by on the old highway here, but they weren't coming in. And they came up with a plan. You know what? Someone doesn't have really needs ice water. So they started offering free ice water and that turned into a coffee and a donut and things of that nature. And sure enough, as you see today, people come by the droves. Their business boomed and today their family basically owns Yes.
all of it. We're going to go in here and shop around a little bit. They hand out free bumper stickers. Yep.
Yep.
Yep. Yep. Anyway, sorry about that. You know, Nova Bros. So, let's go in here and shop a little bit. Have a little bit of fun. We might chew on some food, throw something down our back neck, and then we're off to the ghost town. But this thing's cool. Straight six.
Maybe a little bit of a knock. That's all right.
Careful of Walt there. He's a little a little grabby.
>> I got a picture of him when he was about eight years old. Yeah, >> it looks like 119 stores, but they're all owned by the same person. It's genius.
>> But we got to find the dream catcher store.
>> Yeah, that's pretty solid.
>> I wish there could be like chrome in it somehow. Like, why don't I own that?
>> You can't take me anywhere.
bowl and a little >> I have a bear rug like that.
Not as big as the Buffalo, obviously.
>> Michelle just got a real heater off of this rack. We've been bouncing around from store to store. And uh Brian just found spicy quail eggs, so we got lunch covered.
But >> Oh, a leather. Yeah, it's like a drum style.
I kind of like that one with the beads that you found with the colors.
>> Yeah.
>> Although I do like these.
>> I don't know if it helps my eyes or not, but okay. Back to the other store, I think.
H Come here, my pretty.
I think this is it.
We have scaled 147,000 square ft square feet of dream catchers and magnetic rocks for this moment.
Now Chad has to stare at this. This is going to black velvet. $22.
Jeez.
Okay, I'm ready.
Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad.
Established in 1961 on top of the Hey I'm trying to do three wide.
>> I don't think they get the picture.
>> I don't have enough power.
>> Slob. Or is it Pantene Pro?
Just a bunch of time travelers going back to 18 some odd 80 promis. So here we are in the Dakota territory 1880s thing. We went to uh Felipe and then cut over to Midland.
Got some really spicy.
Was it tomato, basil, bacon, and habanero cheese curds? I didn't read the last word. They're hot. And then I rubbed in my eyes. I couldn't I still can't see.
That's okay. Anyway, there's billy goats around here. Never been here. Going to try to see if we can get a group rate.
We're going to walk around, go to church, check out a house and water tower or something and the 103C South Dakota Central Train. And now we're on to the big party in Murdo. Let's go check it out.
>> Oh, Marty. Yeah, he's a good guy.
I'm not really sure. He looks like a Confederate mailman that also cowboys on the side and uh makes lanterns as a hobby.
And also there's like Tomb Raider music playing. Not sure why, but I like everything that's happening.
Exactly the same again.
>> Hello.
>> Uh this is a 14sided barn built in 1919 which now is three personal residences, the office and gift shop.
>> I think it's just a gift shop, but it is actually a 14-sided barn. And I know that because I'm reading a sign that you can't see yet. It's right there.
>> Okay.
>> Big red door in the back.
>> Okay.
>> So, we got one, two, three.
>> All right. Thank you, sir.
>> All right, we got a bunch of people behind us. I just guessed and paid for 30 for now.
>> Oh, wow.
This is cool.
I did not know this was even in here.
Saddle from 1895, of course. DuPont gunpowder. Look at that sewing machine.
Huh. That's a nice saddle. Dinosaur. Of course, you got a camel. Is that Clarence and Richard Hullinger?
It is. I can't believe it. I think he was four years old back then. John Wayne over here. That's a Collins and Morrison saddle. These are from about 1900, give or take. This is a dog powered churning butter machine. Wow.
You know, you never know. We need one of those.
Is there an upstairs?
Can you go up there?
>> I hear people. Okay. I thought that's where the house was.
Fun fact, Kevin Co used to have a casino in Deadwood where we started. Oh, it's a very, very realistic Buffalo. I think it's real, actually.
Oh, I'm glad the signs in here to clarify.
>> Oh, >> say now we're >> now that makes sense.
>> Yeah. I just thought it was weird they would put them up here otherwise, but okay. That's This is the building we're in right now. So, obviously that's where it came from.
That's them hauling it out.
And then in 1991 Oh. So, we uh explored the Dances with Wolves Buffalo Horse Exhibit. Now, we're going into the town.
We're going to find the sheriff and then navigate our way.
There's only room for two of us in this town.
>> Two of us.
>> Oh, wait.
>> Wait.
>> I guess we start here.
Mabel's house.
>> Yeah. from back in the day. This is Oh, the thing.
>> Yeah.
>> Yeah.
I've driven by this so many times. I don't It's pretty harsh looking potatoes.
This actually would have been a big house back then.
A lot of time there wasn't even a dividing wall. It was just like a stove and a cot.
This guy's got a washing machine, a dryer, sewing machine, butter churn, good cookware, a swinging lantern.
I don't know if I'm supposed to touch that.
>> So, you let people know you're accepting visitors.
>> Oh, you swinging in view.
>> Yeah, it's like in there. We're good to go.
>> Yeah. What's this do?
I think that's just a property maintenance shed.
>> Check. Got that.
>> Okay. Yep. Got it. That looks pretty good.
>> And that's it.
>> Next.
Old school sawmill. This is sweet.
Those big hooks would latch in the logs and somewhere you could ratchet it and drive it in. And then you'd have your big old saw blade in there. Down on the end there is a belt drive. So you'd have like an old John Deere like B tractor and you'd have a big old belt turning this thing. The blade in the background is about the size.
But a lot of the wood that made these here buildings came off that thing.
Speaking of town hall award.
>> Yeah.
>> All right.
>> All right. If you look up here, there's a Phillips 55 in. Pay attention.
And up next is the some horses and the guys and they're riding them for the love of the land.
This is the 1880 edited version. Enjoy.
Oh, that's cool. Why is it like 64 degrees in here though?
>> Imagine the power bill here. It's wild.
>> I was waiting for the right ding-dong >> fire. That's what that mean.
>> It's also lunch and supper, so you have to be careful how you hit it. There's a cadence to it, you know.
>> It's not quite to scale. I don't think that's a 1824 Stanley Steamer. That'll really get her done. Gregory National Bank. Of course, you know Greg.
Greg.
I think he's he sleeps with his eyes open. Greg. Yeah, it's normal. We come back later. Oh, wow. Here it is. That's actually really cool.
It's from, you're not going to believe this. Gregory, South Dakota.
1909. We are standing right here by this window.
Oh, they had the uh in here as well.
Huh.
$1 per acre. Terms as long as 20 years.
Come to South Dakota. You can be miserable in the winter and get all the wind in the summer, but it's affordable.
I like how they called them locators instead of real estate agents back then.
>> Like, what do you want? Land. Yes. Right there.
>> Located.
>> I'm looking at history of this 1881 to 1940 post. This was in business in 1940.
Well, I can see it. It's actually me.
You see it?
>> Okay. Good.
>> Oh, wow.
>> Fancy piece.
>> You'd think they'd like >> put a piece of plexiglass over that.
>> Wind it in.
>> Well, yeah. Some idiot's going to come up here and tap on it. It's going to fall in.
>> So, over here's your brownie. They're one of the one of the more popular lenses. Then you got over here the shot.
If you're a real marksman, that's your weapon back in the day right there.
>> Well, at least they had great views, you know.
>> Got a bump.
>> Ouch.
>> Ask where the toilet is.
>> I'm standing on it.
>> I see. It used to be a chicken coop.
>> This would be way more practical though, just throw them in there.
throw rocks at you, >> right? Oh, it's in session.
Jesus is Lord.
It's actually very pretty. Look at the windows.
Gorgeous.
>> There's also a ghost playing that organ.
I'll have you know off to the library. Need to get me a steed.
I've got 160 for a brown horse.
>> Oh Jesus.
>> Okay. Oh, sweet. You can do seat upgrades or downgrades.
I just Wow.
We've come a little ways.
A little ways.
This is a small de. No, it's not. It's looked shaped like a deets, but it's a fake one. Manur spreader.
And that's a that's like a uh 99 Chevy 3500 extended caby.
And uh that's a 74 cabin chassis down there. It's most likely a 350 with an SM465.
Looks like an Oldmobile 88 next to it, but I'm I can't see nothing that far.
I also don't think that's part of the display.
That horse sounds a little sick. I'm going to say it.
Saddle shop.
Very common back in the day. You would live where you worked. So like this was a saddle shop. There'd be a little stove, washtub, cotton here, and then boop, you come out and make boots and saddles.
That's a nice clock. Next, the saloon.
It's Buffalo.
Oh, there's people in here. I'm sorry.
Sorry. My bad. I still lost, actually.
Oh, okay. It's a little weird.
>> How did they move this one?
>> Working lady rooms, I think, is what these are. Should we do an EVP up here?
>> Yes.
>> Okay. Okay. Shh. If there's anyone in here, say words with your mouth. Use your mouth and yell something. Say words in English.
If there's anyone in here, say words with your mouth. Use your mouth and yell something. Say words in English.
>> No, just to learn music.
We tried.
But up here we've got survivors of the battle of the little big horn in 1876.
That's a Dewey Beard right there in the middle. Of course, Sitting Ball, everyone knows him. Ironhawk right there. And uh this guy's name over here is called Comes Again.
Take me back.
I'm ready.
I mean, you can see why people wanted to hang out in these all day. Hey, there was nothing else to do. This is the nicest building in town. Ooh, lonesome drummers.
Oh, >> I think that's a rifle.
>> I mean, the lion looks remorseful at least. He's like, well, you know, >> 1913. Wow.
Like this is a normal standard house.
>> Yeah. One bed, zero bath. I'll take it.
Low ceilings.
Oh, here's that jail outside.
chamber pot used in this jail cell.
That's that thing. That's That's neat.
There's a dates liner.
Mhm.
Yep. Jebidiah work there.
Yeah.
Oh, wow.
Yeah. Yeah. Feels dangerous in there.
H a shave and a bath.
>> I'm scared. It's probably just a steel cooking pot.
Why is there like murder mystery music in here?
If the lights go out, >> I'm just going to start swinging.
From Buffalo Bills Irma Hotel.
Where was that? Cody, Wyoming. Look, Cody's new $8,000 hotel.
It's actually gigantic. That'd probably be like $82,000 today with the exchange. It's a lot of money.
Okay, 1880 town was actually a lot of fun. Unfortunately, we didn't get to go through the whole thing. I am running late. Weird. That never happens. There's a lot. I'm going to come back cuz there's a lot left to see. We didn't go in the train and the schoolhouse and a whole bunch of stuff. Really, really neat. Love the history. Another fire.
This the seventh one in like 40 minutes.
We're going to jump on the service road, get ourselves some myrtle. There's going to be a ton of cars there. We're handing out the Tom Hall award. We're going to sell some limited merchandise that's only for the Go in the Town tour. We're going to go through that museum, get some fudge.
And I guess that's a wrap. I don't know.
Well, right when we were getting ready to leave the 1880 town, Andy's TA threw a belt. Wouldn't you know it, she was getting hot. And betw twix the 794 of us, we had 793 belts. But wouldn't you know, all of them were the wrong size.
until I recognized the length. And yes, it was the power steering belt size off of Glenn the Nova. So, I went ahead and slid that off and let Andy run that on his car. So, now I have well, just no power steering, no power brakes, but that's fine. And that's the spirit of hot rodding. I'll throw one on sometime in the future.
Kids, they got to drive fast.
I'm on the back road.
Look at that. It's a selfdeleting trim piece.
We made it to Berto.
I'm Sam's a belt, though. I gave Andy my uh power steering belt, which by the way, a 250 or 292 power steering belt fits a Pontiac charging rate. Thank you, GM, for being just, you know. So, we sacrificed that. And then, of course, he blew by me on the interstate at Jesus while I was taking the bag.
We're pulling into Murdo in just a minute. This is going to be a lot of fun. And I've taken you guys here a couple times, but we're going to enjoy it again. We're going to beat everybody, hand out some owl awards, sign some things, take some pictures, and uh try not to get emotional, but this is a really humbling moment for me because this week has been week three days has been incredible. There's been zero complaints, zero negativity. Everyone's been just so kind and thankful and having a blast.
And you're probably tired of hearing it, but the vice grip garage community, I I promise you, is unlike any other on the planet, and I'm thankful and extremely extremely It's a proud dad owner. This is just You guys are just the salt of the earth. Don't believe me? I'm going to show you in about 47.9 seconds. Also, I need to fix this.
Keeps falling down. Tapless. Oh, it's for sale.
Where's the soda?
>> We're coming back. I'm really late, but we're coming back.
All right, we are so late, but this place is absolutely jam-packed, and I could not be happier for Murdo Museum.
Um, museums is a tough business. Just ask me how I know.
So, we wanted to bring all these cars here and share this museum. These guys have been so kind to me for two decades now. They have a great collection.
They're super kind people. So, really, I'm hoping someone will come in here and grab a foam finger and a shot glass, maybe a t-shirt or something, or just a ticket to go look at this incredible collection, which we're going to do after we meet these 2,419 people that are here. I'm going to park. Can I double park?
Oh, it quit.
We're here. Did that work?
>> Did he smile?
>> Yep.
>> Yes.
What do you think of these things?
>> Fancy.
>> Boom.
>> Thank you very much.
>> You're very welcome. Take >> care for a second.
>> If you walk with me with me.
>> Yeah, you bet you. How's it going?
>> You made it.
Happy birthday to you.
>> This is your fault, isn't it?
>> Happy birthday, dear Derek.
>> Wow.
>> Happy birthday to you.
>> Thank you guys. Wow.
>> And many more. No one.
>> Thank you.
Well, I can't believe I made it to 35, but here I am.
>> Wow.
>> This one's actually yours.
>> Is this a big check? Hopefully, >> it is. It is.
>> Sweet.
>> Yeah, right.
>> Oh my goodness.
>> Wow. Looks just like me.
>> Wow. Okay.
Oh my goodness.
That's really cool. Thank you guys. This has been a really, really, really, really good birthday. I appreciate you guys. Thank you. Look at that.
There's so many on here. And lipsticks.
Is that you, too?
Oh my goodness.
Wow. Thank you guys. This has been incredible. Did you guys have fun?
>> Awesome. Okay, so question. We've been really worried about this. Just nervous all week. If we did this again next year somewhere else in the country, would you be interested doing it again?
>> Yes. Okay.
>> All right. I'm not going to spill the whole beans, but I'll just say so you can start planning. Same weekend over my birthday and it'll be somewhere in the south. How's that sound?
>> Yes.
>> Okay. All right.
>> All right. And a round of applause for you guys. We could not do any of this without you. So, thank you guys. I appreciate it.
>> Wow. So cool. All right. Now, what do I do?
>> I can't eat. I should eat cake. Should we eat cake?
>> The guy was blown away. My friends absolutely surprised me with the birthday cake. And most of the participants of the Go the Town tour signed this gigantic birthday card for me. What an incredible gift. And this Go in the Towns tour of Black Hills to Badlands was absolutely incredible. The Vice Script Garage Nation is unlike any other. And I can't wait to do this again next year. Stay tuned. You will hear about it. It's going to be 10 to 114 billion times bigger, better stops, and more fun. Thanks guys for watching.
Appreciate you so very much. We'll see you soon.
