Research reveals that high cholesterol alone does not determine heart disease risk, as 50% of heart attack patients had normal cholesterol levels; instead, inflammation inside the arteries is the underlying cause that allows plaque to form and restrict blood flow, leading to heart attacks and mortality. Understanding your full lipid panel and inflammation markers, rather than relying solely on cholesterol numbers, provides a more accurate assessment of cardiovascular risk.

High Cholesterol Over 50Added:
Did you know that high cholesterol doesn't always mean increased risk for heart attacks or heart disease? When we look at all of the people in the research that do have a heart attack, 50% had normal cholesterol and 50% had elevated. That's why we call it the cholesterol paradox. It doesn't seem to make sense except when you begin to go one layer deeper. So we know one out of two men and essentially one out of three women will have some type of heart disease in their lifetime. It's extremely important that we understand why. Inflammation seems to be the real underlying root cause. Now inflammation has its own issues, but when we look at inflammation, that is ultimately what inflames the arteries that allows plaque to begin to form and when that plaque begins to form, blood flow can't move through. Ultimately, it is the inflammatory process inside of the arteries and not cholesterol alone that leads to all cause mortality, especially for increased plaque, heart attacks and heart disease. So what we do in our clinical practice is this. For our private clients and of course we want to offer you this as well, is that we test for the omega-3 inflammation based at-home lab test. It shows you your inflammatory fats to your anti-inflammatory. You shoot for that 3:1 ratio. Once you reach it, you decrease your total all cause cardiovascular risk by 90%. Run the omega-3 inflammation test, you'll be glad you did. If your levels are high, we'll give you a plan as to how to lower those levels, put you back in the safe zone.
