Deadly Hantavirus Outbreak - Should We Panic?Added:
Right now, there's a deadly haunt virus outbreak on a cruise ship. Three people have died and everyone's kind of asking the question, should we panic? The short version of this is no, not yet. Experts are saying that it's slow transmission.
It takes a long time to pass from human to human, but there are a lot of nuances here and so many details that we're going to get into in this video. Panic, no. Concerned? Yeah, this is a deadly virus. The case mortality rate for COVID was between 1 and 4% globally. For the Andy strain of the haunt virus, it is 40% a 40% case fatality. This all started on a cruise ship. Three people have already died that were on that cruise ship, and there are so many people currently still on that cruise ship that want to get off. Now, there are a lot of conspiracy theories going around about this, but I'm just going to go ahead and play this video first to get your opinion. There's a guy on board, currently right now, who is a travel blogger, and he had this to say.
I am currently on board the MV hobbyist and what's happening right now is very real for all of us here.
We're not just a story. We're not just headlines. We're people. People with families with lives with people waiting for us at home. All we want right now is to feel safe, to have clarity, and to get home.
>> Yeah. They need to stay on that ship.
Okay. And as as much empathy as I have and as concerned I am for those people and how horrific I can't even imagine they still need to stay on that boat. I mean especially because you have people waiting for you at home and the highest rate of transmission is long form contact. So the more you're around someone or at least that's what they say the longer exposure you have to someone the higher likelihood of passing this thing along. Now another scary thing about this virus is it has an 8w week incubation period. So you might have it and not know for 2 months. Stay on the boat. Wait it out. Make sure that you don't take something unknowingly to your family back at home and then to the world at large because I still have flashbacks from CO and no thank you to something on a 40% mortality rate. I do feel bad for them. I want to make it clear. I'm not trying to be harsh right now, but I think for the safety of the people waiting for you back home and the rest of the world, take one for the team, bro. So, if you're seeing coverage about this, just remember that there are real people behind it and that this isn't something happening somewhere far away. It's happening to us.
>> Well, I mean, yes, such is the case for anything happening that's terrible somewhere. I mean, it's real for the people going through it. It's hard for me to hear something like that and not immediately think about all the horrific things going on around the world that people sort of tune out on because it doesn't affect them directly. So, this is just basically him saying have compassion even though it doesn't affect you directly, but I think people should be aware that it could very potentially affect you directly. Not that it should need to to care about people. Now, like I said, there are so many conspiracy theories going on about this. This guy in particular, people are saying, "Oh, he's reading from a script. Look at his eyes. He's a paid actor. None of this is real." I wouldn't go that far, but I would say he is reading. He literally says at the beginning of this video that he wrote some things down. This is probably a highly stressful situation.
Not everyone has perfect camera presence. He's obviously emotional. So, let's just go back and hear that part because this is a part that everybody edits out of the clip.
>> I normally wouldn't make a video like this, but I feel like I need to say something. So, I wrote a few things down.
>> Yeah. So, he's he is reading, but he's saying that he wrote it. So, I don't know, but I did have to mention it because I posted an Instagram reel about this. Unfortunately, I had to make it brief because it was just an Instagram reel, but so many comments were people pointing that out. So, I wanted to address it. Also, I wanted to elaborate on what I said in my Instagram reel because what I said, and I hope you guys do follow me on Instagram because I post most of my like up-to-date content. It hits Instagram first before I have the time to sit down and make like a full YouTube video. But I also didn't have time to go into full depth about this and I don't want to come off as like fear-mongering even though I personally do tend to get very scared especially after co especially when it comes to something that I'm seeing warning signs about right now. I'm seeing red flags and these stories inconsistencies and things that just don't sound quite right. It does scare me. It does freak me out. And even though the experts are saying it's nothing to worry about right now and I want to believe it on the scale of people worrying, I think I'm not panicking. I am calm, but I am keeping an eye on it closely. There are just some things, like I said, that don't really follow the narrative of not worrying. So, we will get into all of it. It started in Argentina. People boarded the cruise ship and 5 days later, the first man started showing symptoms. 5 days after that, he died. 2 weeks later, his wife starts showing symptoms. She gets on a plane, flies to Johannesburg, South Africa, collapses in the airport, and dies. Now, mind you, she just got on a plane full of people and then died in an airport full of people. This will be important later.
That day, somebody else on the cruise ship gets sick. They fly to South Africa, go to the ICU, and that is where doctors were able to confirm that this was the haunt virus. And just a few days ago on May 6th, we were told that this is confirmed to be the Andes strain of the haunt virus, which is extremely dangerous because this is the only version that is transferred from person to person. Typically, people get it from rodent droppings. It's airborne. You get sick because there's rats, but there were no rats found on board this ship.
Now, there were theories about other things going on. Apparently, the couple that died had been bird watching prior to even getting on the ship, so it's possible they got sick and then brought that onto the ship. Who knows? Maybe they're the ones that infected everybody else. We don't know all the details yet, but we do know that it is the Andy strain, which is transmitted person to person. 5 days after that, another person on the ship starts having respiratory issues and dies. As of me filming this right now, those are the only three people that have died from this. It is important to know though that other people are starting to show symptoms. And remember, 8week incubation period. It can take 2 months to know you caught this thing. The doctor on the ship who was treating these people started showing symptoms. And apparently the WHO has said there are seven total cases from the ship. Another thing I've heard people say is that this is not a new virus. This has been around for a while. Gene Hackman's wife died from the haunt virus, but she did get it from rodents and it was not the Andes variant. There is one super spreader case I learned about in Argentina. It was a birthday party where this variant was spread around. There were 34 confirmed cases from that birthday party and 11 of those people died. So, for now, there were seven cases on the ship and three deaths. But what about the people who got off the ship before it was confirmed that this is the haunt virus? Over two dozen people have gotten off the ship, and right now we're just monitoring them for contact tracing. But again, 2 months, four US states currently have people that they're contact tracing that were on the ship.
Arizona, Virginia, California, and Georgia. I really hope that these people do not develop the virus, but you know, immunologists are saying that they're not worried, so I'm going to go with that for now. Uh, but I am, like I said, keeping an eye on it. I trust nothing. I trust no one. And as interesting as some of these conspiracy theories are, I mean, here we go again with Marjorie Taylor Green talking about Ivormect.
It's just like, you know, at least I know not to listen to her, right? I think I'll lean more towards what the immunologists are saying and less towards, you know, Marjorie Taylor Green calling me crazy. The immunologists are saying it requires close contact. Now, this is the one thing that I am going to throw a red flag up on because, now this is my own personal theory, so take it with a grain of salt. I mean, I do have a degree in biology. I spent some time in med school and we did study viology and one thing you learn is that viruses do mutate and they evolve. If a mutation is favorable just like anybody, right?
If you you want to survive and reproduce. So the same thing goes with viruses. They want to survive, they want to spread. So if there is a mutation that's favorable towards spread, that will catch on. That's why we have to constantly continue research because things don't stay the same. And maybe it's been true that it's taken long exposure for this thing to catch on. It doesn't seem like that's the case on this ship. People aren't in close contact, but it's spreading. Seven cases is not nothing. And now it's extending beyond people that were on the ship.
Why? Because people got off. The woman I told you before to remember, the one who got on a plane and then died in the airport, well, the flight attendant from that plane is currently in isolation in Amsterdam because she's showing mild symptoms. Got to update. I'm editing now and it did get confirmed that she tested negative. So, yay. And this says, "A French person who had not set foot on the Honda virus stricken MVHandas is being monitored as a contact case for the infection after taking a flight with the passenger. I'm glad we're doing contact tracing. I'm glad that everyone so far is okay. But again, when the mortality rate is 40%, this is not something to be taken lightly. And we do know one person that got off before it was confirmed did test positive and is now in a hospital in Zurich. To me, it just doesn't seem like the prolonged exposure element is completely holding up. Another conspiracy theory going around is that Madna had apparently been working on a vaccine for the HANA virus before this cruise ship situation even happened. But that one doesn't really hit me because research for a lot of different pathologies are just ongoing all of the time. So that doesn't really send up a red flag for me. But something I will absolutely throw a red flag out for is the United States leadership that we're currently under because oh my god, if something were to happen, what do we have? We've got Trump as president and [ __ ] RFK Jr. in charge of the HHS.
RFK Jr. supposed to keep us safe? I'm supposed to feel comforted by that? I mean, the Trump administration has been making cut after cut to public health spending. Oh, and not to mention, we pulled out of a little something called the WHO. So, you know, who needs it? We are not equipped to handle a pandemic.
And even though they say it might not get to that point, I don't feel like we're equipped to handle anything. Do I want to be an alarmist? No, I do not.
But I also don't want to be uninformed and bury my head in the sand and pretend like everything's going to be fine when this virus is extremely deadly and dangerous and when it doesn't seem to actually need prolonged exposure to spread and the incubation period of 8 weeks freaks me out. And I'm sorry. I hope all these people stay on the boat.
I know they want to get off the boat. I know. But with a 40% case fatality, no thanks. Y'all can wait it out. You know, just the boat tried to dock in Cape Verde and they said, "Nope, pass." Now, Spain said, "You can come on over here and park at the Canary Islands," which they are not thrilled about, by the way.
Apparently, that'll be arriving this weekend, and people are supposed to be able to get off starting Monday. I Why?
Why? To me, it seems like I don't know, a bad idea. Damn, we're playing with fire. I mean, I do not want to roll the dice on a Thanos moment, which it absolutely would be. Maybe not 50%, but 40% pretty bad. Again, I hope I gave you all the relevant information in this. I hope I explained that the immunologists are saying not to worry, that apparently it's supposed to be very difficult to spread, but you guys can look at the information yourself and make up your mind on what you think. At the very least, just wash your hands. Just wash your You have no idea how much that could actually prevent things from spreading. Get yourself some hand sanitizer. Purel should have sponsored this video. Anyway, thank you guys so much for watching and thank you to those of you who are supporting me on Patreon.
