The American Cancer Society has updated its colorectal cancer screening guidelines to include a blood test as an alternative screening option for individuals who decline or cannot undergo preferred visual exams like colonoscopy or stool tests; this blood test, which detects tumor DNA signals in the blood, should be performed every 3 years and requires a follow-up colonoscopy if positive, while visual exams and stool tests remain the preferred screening methods.
