Government intervention through sovereign wealth funds and infrastructure banks can distort free markets by selecting projects that would otherwise be unprofitable for private businesses, potentially discouraging private investment and creating economic inefficiencies; responsible economic policy should focus on affordability solutions rather than leveraging national credit cards for government projects.

Liberal math vs. Reality: Conservative deputy leader Lantsman shreds the sovereign wealth fundAjouté :
Yes, thank you, Mr. Speaker. You recall that I've had the opportunity to ask a couple of questions already today and and there is a theme that's coming out of the the Conservative Party. I'll I'll recognize that and that is it's a very simple one and that is just to get out of the way. It's something in which the Conservatives have said not only in regards to this policy but a litany of all virtually all policies um that the Conservative Party seems to tend to want to favor. And my question to to the member is does the Conservative Party today today's new Conservative Party uh believe there are circumstances where uh and actions that the government can actually take that would support uh the economy that would involve uh things such as sovereign wealth funds or an infrastructure uh bank. Does she have an Honorable member for Thornhill. Mr. Speaker, I know that we're discussing a sovereign wealth fund today but this is not what the government's proposing. In fact, they can't even talk about it in their question.
The the the the the sovereign wealth fund or the sovereign debt fund that they're proposing is the exact opposite of what one who that would actually work in an economy when we had surpluses, when we had resource revenues um that would invest outside of the country and not distort the market within the country by picking the very projects that make it unprofitable for the first in the first place for businesses to invest.
This is the this is the problem with the government. Every single time their solution is to come in, distort the market, regulate the market, subsidize the market so nobody can build here and that's evidenced by the trillion dollars of capital that has fled this country.
Questions and comments, the honorable Questions and comments, the honorable member for Pierre Boucher de la Patrie et des Patriotes Thank you, Mr. Speaker.
I'd like to congratulate my colleague for her speech.
Sometimes we agree with the Conservatives and when this happens, perhaps the government should listen up.
But the question I have for her is the government in its famous fund to build Canada strong or sovereign fund as they like to call it.
In terms of selecting the projects, it has determined that the projects would be referred to them by the major projects office which decided by the PM's office.
So I'd like to know if she finds this reassuring that the so-called independent fund will will see its investment selected uh from what the PM chooses.
>> a It's always an interesting day here when the when you agree with the Bloc This is a government that has put put forward now uh I think the 13th new bureaucracy and all of these bureaucracies have one thing in common is that they're they're there to distort the the the the market of which private companies chose not to invest in something so government comes and backfills that capital that that already exists in this country by choosing the very projects that go forward. That is the opposite of how a free market works. It is the opposite of how this country was built in the in the in it throughout the generations and I can't understand why this government always chooses the wrong path when it comes to building Canada's future.
Questions and comments, the honorable member for Vernon Lake Country Monashee.
Thank you, Mr. Speaker. Mr. Speaker, with regard to Norway's sovereign sovereign wealth fund, I decided to do the same thing as the Prime Minister because the Prime Minister is a wise person and I decided that what I would do is take the bulk of the money out of my credit card and put it in my savings account and call it Scott's retirement fund. And then I went to my accountant and my accountant says that I'll never retire and I was wondering if the member could explain to me why that is.
Honorable member for Thornhill.
It's uh some people call it girl math, I call it liberal math. I've been guilty of doing the same thing. I see a very expensive thing that I absolutely can't afford um and I buy it on sale when it's 5% off and I convince myself that I got all of these savings for it. That's liberal math. That's how the math works in this place. Canadians don't need a wealth fund. They need a government that's going to to to handle affordability affordability in a in a in a responsible way and and and stop leveraging the national credit card so Canadians have to leverage theirs for groceries.
