This video exposes the superficiality of global cultural literacy, where complex national identities are reduced to mere commodities and surface-level stereotypes. It serves as a sobering reminder that physical proximity in a global hub does not guarantee genuine cross-cultural understanding.

What else? What else do you >> Uh Hormuz, also. Hormuz? Like it's not that.

What?
>> Yeah. I was working for Nespresso. So, the first and the best quality we ever did was the Sidamo and it's a limited edition. So, since then, I'm always buying Sidamo coffee or even over here in Qatar. Masha'Allah. Very nice. What else you know about Ethiopia? Um that there was a lot of political tensions in the country with and a lot of poverty, unfortunately. And that unfortunately very often the people are left alone in their problems.
So, it's a reminds me a little bit the situation of Palestina.
And we should stand up because it's not suitable today with all the richness we have in the world that people are suffering and don't have food. Now, tonight I I meet a nice family from Ethiopia, so that that's the new a new friendship. Very nice. I will give you some more facts about Ethiopia. So, as you know, coffee was born in Ethiopia, but we have also the best runner in Ethiopia. Oh, yes. Under 2 hours I saw it. Amazing. And actually the two guys under 2 hours.
And actually I have a friend in Italy and he's training a lot of runners from Africa because he was grown up. He's a Dutch guy. He grew up in in Kenya, I think. And he was working with the best Kenyan runners at the time. But he's also have a training camp in Italy and they trained a lot of international runners to get used to the European climate before they come to run in Berlin and other places.
I'm Mohammed Irfan and I'm from India and I'm staying here in Qatar since 14 years. Masha'Allah. Masha'Allah. When I say Ethiopia, what comes in your head first? Ethiopia. Ethiopia is a very nice country. I have many friends from there.
Some of my colleagues are also there in my company working in Ethiopia. It's a Muslim country and I really respect them and and I appreciate because the people over there, trust me. I have a colleague working here in my company from Ethiopia. They are very genuine and they are very nice people. And they are very hard working, by the way. Thank you. Thank you so much. Yes. Bravo. Coffee. Uh my name is Nasser bin Saif al Habshi. I am from Oman. When I say Ethiopia, what comes in your head first? Najashi.
Uh uh Bilal.
Uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh uh injera injera Wow. You know many many old uh ancient ancient Lucy.
I know about Lucy. We learned about her in the school.
Yeah.
You are very knowledgeable guy.
>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Give me more. I went to um an international school. So, they taught us pretty well.
And when I say Somalia, also, what do you think what comes your head first?
>> Somalia is a very nice country, also Muslim country. They speak Arabic like us. So, they they are brothers. We are brothers the same. Uh Somalia no not much information. Like I don't have much information. I I've met also many Somalis here. Like I work with tourists, you know.
They're kind people, also good people.
They have good heart. They are Arab, also Muslims. We love them. They love us. Good relationship between us and them.
And that's what Masha Allah. That's very nice answer. I'm happy to hear hear that. Have you ever heard of Somalia? Uh no. No?
>> [laughter] >> Somalia is right next to Ethiopia. Uh We know the name, but uh we don't have friends or we don't ever been to go. So, Somalia. Yeah. When I say Somalia, what comes your head first?
Somalia beautiful beautiful beaches and uh nice culture. Very nice people.
Somalia has also a lot of history. Um I don't know is so is your uh channel political? Is okay? No, I'm free of politics, actually.
Okay, but I know this >> But you can say your opinion. Yeah, I have uh some uh uh Somali friends and they told me about this man their old presidency Siad Barre. I think that's his name. Is that how you pronounce it? Yeah. Very great guy who I think once upon a time Somalia was like the Hollywood.
Used to be, yes.
>> Yeah. Yeah, I hope I hope they get there again. Inshallah. Inshallah Ta'ala.
So now, when I say uh Somalia, what comes in your head first? Uh Somalia camel. Masha Allah. Thank you so much.
Anything else you can tell me? Thank you, sir. Okay. Our brother from Sudan.
Thank you so much for your time. Then what do you know about Somalia?
Somalia, I see I know what I what not me, what we the world as Somalia we know there is a war going on. There is a poverty, also.
Uh some World Health Organizations must need to concentrate more. There are some sickness.
Still there are some disease, there are polio.
There are still many work to be done.
Let's world come unite and work over there for the development of the country. What else you know about Somalia?
See, Somalia is an African country. The people are very hard working over there.
What I said some more the world need to come to bring them up.
They need us.
Somalia, they need us.
We from anywhere of the world, the people of Somalia needs us in terms of medical, in terms of health, and in terms of education. They are very hard working people.
They are very hard working, but the world needs to come over there and to work for them to bring them up because they are very they have a very uh you know historical culture.
Thing needs to be work over there. It will be a very very good thing, and it will be trust me, it is it will be a once if this is done if the whole world comes up and works for the Somalia for the development Somalia will be very good. It is good. But people people need to come over there and support them. They need our support.
For all of us.
I I really want to give message to the world.
Come up.
Come and help this society. They need us. We We are here in this world for a few days. Have to go. This is the life is very short. But what if we do for this culture for Somalian culture, it will stay for long long time. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you for your time. When you hear Somalia, also what comes in your mind?
Somalia, the first thing comes in my mind is many years ago when I was a small boy 90s was 1978.
There was a kidnapping of a German airplane and it was stuck in Entebbe.
And there was a German military tried to rescue the people in the plane.
And it was the terrorists who took the plane. So that's the first souvenir comes up in my mind as a child I remember this.
But also a lot of yeah, a lot of unfortunately and not not such good many things because a lot of conflicts, a lot of fighting.
But I am sure that this country has sides we don't know from the media.
Beautiful sides.
A lot a lot because media always show you not good stuff, you know, and exaggerating a lot. But you see we are in Qatar safe, happy, you see. The market is full with people enjoying safe. But what you hear when you are outside of Qatar, totally different story. So this is what media does to us.
That's why traveling is the best education. When you travel and seeing seeing is believing, right? And they have a beautiful beautiful very welcoming good-hearted people.
Well, you know, always when you go to a country, you need to approach the people with open-mindedness. Exactly. I was very lucky I had my parents always taking me to travel so around the world.
So I also grew up in a open-minded situation and that's why today I live in Qatar.
And this country is completely different as it is reflected in Europe in the media and whatever else.
And [snorts] so the beauty of a country is of course to get in contact with the people, to exchange with the people and yeah to try to understand the culture, to learn about the culture. In every country can be beautiful if you are willing to learn about it.
>> Thank you so much for your time. I appreciate that. Thank you my dear.
Thank you and enjoy the time here. Thank you you too.
Somalia. I'm good.
Honestly like I think I don't know much about Somalia. I can't I can't say anything about that one.
>> Really? Nothing at all? No. I know it's in Africa but no, I don't know. Trust me. If I say I don't know I'm lying. He knows. Come to me.
>> Do you know something about me? Yeah.
Nothing good. Beautiful people, nice people. And it's a it's a coastal area, right?
>> Yes, they have the longest coastline in Africa and the Horn of Africa.
Okay, the poetry comes they call it Somalia, the nation of poetry. The nation of poetry.
>> See all these camels people riding here for fun? Yeah. The largest camel population is in Somalia.
>> Somalia. Oh wow. Yeah. That's nice. It's very insightful. Yeah, they have the beautiful beach there. Beautiful cream blue water.
And nice people. I guess I have to >> So today you had some knowledge about >> Yeah, very very very >> Never say I don't know nothing >> [laughter] >> You are your neighbor, your brother.
>> have to. Thank you very much. Thank you.
Thank you for your Do you know something about Ghana yourself? Yeah, I do know.
Ghana jollof or Nigeria jollof? I have no idea what to say. Yeah I prefer the Ghanaian one but the ugali, the fufu I prefer the Nigerian one.
>> [laughter] >> Come on I have to balance it.
Okay, thank you so much for your What about Somalia?
Somalia?
I know it's the horn of Africa.
Very good. You are very smart young man.
Horn of Africa, yeah, and they have the longest marine coastline in Africa. Yes. Yes. Yes.
Anything else? No, not really. That's it? No, not really. Thank you very much.
Thank you. Thank you so Thank you very much. Thank you. I appreciate it. Enjoy your evening. When you hear Somalia, what comes also first in your head? I think about the war. Oh, okay. Um and I think about the the pirates.
I know these are really negative things.
It's really sad. Um and and that's again probably I mean I know the South Southern Africa a lot better, but so those are the the two things that come to mind. So probably not ideal for tourists, but I guess it's what you read and what you see and and you don't know any better. True. Media exaggerated a lot, of course. So now, what do you know about Somalia?
Somalia?
Uh I think they are having something a cold war, I'd say.
Like the Somaliland or I don't know much about politics, but there is Beside politics, what else do you know?
There is a food, but I'm not sure if it's Somalian, the fufu. No, that's Nigerian or West African. West African.
>> Somalia is in East, right next to Ethiopia. Uh-huh. Somalia, I think the land sharing with Yemen their seaside and also the uh I think they have their their own language, but uh 90% of them are Muslims or more, I think. No, yeah, more. Yes.
About the politics, I don't I don't think that much, but uh they have a big problem in that they want to make it a they want to split it between the Somalilanders and Somalia.
And that's it. There's a champions here from in Qatar. They're originally from Somalia. I think Basham, I think. I don't know. I don't know about that.
Frankincense luban that you put in the house. Luban, yes. We have They are the most producer luban producer country.
Huh? Luban.
Yeah, yeah, luban or or you put it on the fire. Majmua yani.
We'll see.
But I think in Yemen we have two kind, the the female and male. Do you have that this kind of luban? Yes. Female and male. Yeah, that's the like the majmua, the bukhur. Yes. Also we make this the original one just to burn it in the house, you know, for nice smell and that. Thank you so much. Thank you so much.
>> Appreciate it. Thank you. Teach me a Somali word. Or assalamualaikum.
How do you say it? Say skoran. Skoran.
Skoran. Skoran.
Wafiyantahay. Skoran fiantahay. Huh?
Skoran fiantahay.
Wama ahsantahay. Ahsantahay. It means thank you.
Wama ahsantahay.
>> [laughter] >> Okay. Thank you so much. La shukran ala wajib.

Nice breeze here, cool air, and as you see everywhere is crowded because of the nice weather. People out and about and enjoying themselves, walking around, shopping, eating, drinking. It's full of cafes and everything.
