Attenborough Made Me Realize We're All Doing This Wrong #shorts #celebrityAdded:
So, it was uh David Atenboroough's birthday over the weekend or maybe the end of last week. British people treated it like it was a royal event. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely adore the guy. I mean, this is the man who made me cry over penguins once. That was a rough day. Like, he turned 100 and uh obviously very special, but it wasn't just a oneoff 2hour biography. It was like a week long of specials. It wasn't boring specials either. Not just, oh, this is who he was and this is what he did and that's the end of it. Long in-depth monologues of all the contributions, celebrities and members of the public alike paying tribute to him. They even had people dressed it up like lions and insects and stuffing happy birthday to a cardboard cutout of him in Trafalgar Square. And they even named a wasp after him in honor of his contributions. We have celebrity worship in America, but this is not deifying in any way. This is honoring and with true respect and true adoration.
Quite moving. But the funniest part was even like the British public, they were just had this outpouring of emotion like they were talking about their own grandfather or something. It was in a really genuine, heartfelt way, like they had a connection and it was really beautiful. United States has celebrities definitely obvious, but British celebrities just aren't deified.
It's not forced and it doesn't feel slimy when you're trying to like honor or respect them. It's not cringy. It's honest and real. And British people are not going to do it unless they actually feel it. You got to hand it to the Brits, man. It takes a while to break through, but once you touch them emotionally, once you get to that point, they hold on to it for
