looking just tuning in and apologize. There's a dead zone next to the Marcato Central up there. I don't know. Like, it's just literally a connection destroyer up there. So, we're going to wait a little bit till the protest can get past it so that way you guys can have a solid feed.
But, welcome everybody. We're going to be getting the Status Coup viewers in here shortly as well.
>> They're going to be cutting over to Marcato Media in Minneapolis. But, welcome guys. We are live in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Lake Street. Been live on the ground here in Minnesota. Obviously, I live here, but I've been covering protests on the ground here since last year, back in 2020 as well, 2020 to 2021. And now I'm back out here on the streets once more.

Even with my live view, it's just a dead spot.
Of course, appreciate you guys for supporting Independent Media. You guys listen to me ramble enough at home about the state of affairs. You guys should be able to get a feed as well, showing you what's happening.

So, how are you?
>> Hey y'all. I'm a union electrician and I'm one of the founding members of Ray Rainbow Memorial Shooting Club. What's up, Twin City?
>> We are a union and LGBT educational self-defense training group. We are one of the four organizations that make up Worker Solidarity Circle. You know, a strong showing like this true proves that the Twin Cities is not afraid to stand up to tyranny and fascism. We are the ones that keep the wheels of society turning. And being here and now for International Workers Day to lock those wheels down is a brave and inspiring task for us to take on.
was also a brave and inspiring task to take on. In the 1880s for the first Mayday, the guilded age in America was defeated by everyday people like you and me. We had no freedom to strike, no freedom to form unions, and a few official mechanisms to affect the world around us. Those that bravely fought back for their freedoms faced extreme violence from the state and their extraleal mercenaries. Sound familiar?
Nobody took it lying down. The dispossessed had to organize the ability to ward off and prevent the kinds of terror we're seeing more of every day.
>> What did we do?
What did we do? Stand up. Fight back.
>> What did we do?
>> Stand up. Fight back.
>> Now, reviving the political strike is a key first step towards a brighter future on this planet. And in taking this brief step forward, we must also engage with the reality of a system that is losing control. With a decade of experience in our city, we know that we cannot rely on the courts, the state, or the police to protect us. We must protect ourselves.
We must act as one. The working class must be able and willing to protect itself by the most effective means that we have. We must study the art of defense and the tactics of our opponents. We must train in deception and persuasion to win conflicts before they begin. We must act together and be able to assert ourselves in the right moment. We must possess and become experts with arms and medical equipment for when and not if the worst happens to us. Most importantly, we must organize and plan to collectively guard our own.
We got to do this as unions, as clubs, as communities, and as one. What do we do?
>> Fight back.
>> What do we do?
>> Fight back. The greatest strength against Metro Surge was the everyday commitment of our neighbors and friends.
The leaderful, overlapping, and diffuse nature of our struggle brought forward the best in us like it often brought forward the best in those that came before us. We have a long road ahead.
Even after this regime is buried, we must save our planet from burning. Now, if there's one thing I know as a student of history and struggle, it's that together we are far more powerful than they could ever imagine. Now, repeat after me. Defend our unions.
>> Defend our unions.

Hi everybody. Welcome. There is a connection dead zone over there. So I want to be careful so you guys don't lose the feed.
Check in if you guys could. Hey, perfect. Welcome status coup. Sorry I didn't check in with you guys. We're live on Status Coup News right now as well. We are live in Lake Street in Minneapolis as you guys know on Status Coup News.
You guys have been getting coverage here from JT Stowski, John Fina, Will and Tina, and many other amazing independent media and journalists that have came to my home state and then provided coverage during Operation Metro Surge and the protest movement in response.
So I appreciate everybody on status coup news for supporting uh my home state and also independent media. You got about three various protest groups that have all converged together here for Mayday protest to demand fair pay, equal wages, taxing the rich, >> ending wars in the Middle East that make it harder >> for the working class to get by while the rich continue to fund endless wars.
We have the power to organize.
>> And so you got a big group here in Minneapolis that have came to raise their voice against that.
>> Accountability.
>> I'm Andrew Marcato from Marcato Media.
If you guys are new on Status Coup, welcome. Hit the like button, subscribe to the YouTube channel. For less than $5 a month, you guys can support independent media on the YouTube channel and other social media platforms. I appreciate you guys.
Let's get back in there again. I'm going to try to navigate this dead zone that we're stopped at. It is a connection dead zone. So, I'll do the best I can. I think we'll be okay to get in there and listen to the speakers, but there are various speakers here in this march.
Marching bands. There's also a Mayday parade this weekend. That is a very famous Minneapolis parade on Sunday.
There will be thousands for the Mayday parade. Okay, so this is the protest.
Let's get in there and listen to some speakers. ion dollar cost is going to fix that. Police continue filing black, brown, immigrant, and indigenous communities just like they failed Mariah Samuels and Allison Lucer. That's why we at TCC forj are organizing for community control of the police through an alled civilian police accountability commission.
>> Because police are not workers, they are a buffer between the working class and the ruling class. They protect property in the interest of the powerful, not the people.
>> That's right.
>> So today on Internationals Workers Day, we demand justice. We demand community control. And we demand dignity for all workers.
>> If you are a Minneapolis resident and a registered voter, do not leave today without signing our petition to get community control on the ballot. And stand with us beyond today. Stand with loved ones of impacted families. Join us at our weekly press conferences at the Minnesota Department of Corrections.
We'll be there May 7th at 8:30 a.m.

>> Thank you so much, Matta. Okay, next we're going to have Benji from Teamster 638. Some more unique representation here.
>> And at the same time, while Nico is speaking, we're going to do like a funny little scooch forward. And so, just bear with us. Please follow the truck as we scooch a little bit. Uh, and uh, please listen to Benji as well.
>> Give it up for Benji.
>> Minneapolis, this is beautiful.
Minneapolis, this is your core. This is Minnesota core right here. My name is Benji Gomez. I'm the founder and CEO of Benji's Pantry Community. What started as an underground pantry in my garage has grown into a warehouse, but it's still powered the same way by donations and volunteers.
>> Good.
Since January 13th, during the federal ICE occupation here in Minnesota, we've served nearly 900 families every single week. And many of the people that make that possible are my fellow teamsters from local 638.
I was raised by an immigrant.
I was raised by an immigrant and my entire family are immigrants. So like me and like so many others, this isn't theoretical, it's personal. I'm also the first in my family to join a union and it's given me and my voice a real power.
On International Workers Day, we recognize that the strength of this country has come from its workers and immigrants have always been at the center of that story. Not just at a part of the workforce, but as a driving force behind unions themselves.
Unions exist because workers stood together and demanded dignity, fair wages, safe conditions, and respect. And so often those workers were immigrants, people with the least protection, but the courage to organize anyway.
That's still true today.
Immigrant workers continue to do some of the hardest, most essential work, often while facing the greatest risks. But when they protect, when they are protected, when they have a voice, when they stand together through unions, it uplifts everyone.
That's what solidarity looks like. A brotherhood, a f a family, a community.
So today isn't just about honoring workers. It's about recognizing who built this movement and who continues to carry it forward. Because at the end of the day, this movement doesn't survive on words. It thrives on people who show up, stand together, and refuse to be divided.
And as long as we do that, workers will never stand alone. Thank you, Chica.
>> Chica, thank you so much, Benji. Quick announcement as we walk away from the theater.

I'm live on Marcato Media, but I'm proud to also be hosting stream for Status Coup News, support independent media, you guys on the ground here on the streets. Mainstream news is nowhere to be found in this massive protest.
They come and they uh they'll come and get maybe like a 20 second clip for their evening news feed and then they will go home and then they get paid a lot of money to do that.
So support independent media.

to say guys, there's some a pretty large protest here on Lake Street. There's there's a sectioned off group so that way everybody can hear speakers, multiple activists uh speaking about the working class and the importance of why we should support the working class. It should be a basic concept but yet uh efforts persist thankfully especially on this Mayday guys it's important to demand workers if you're obviously if you're a worker you should be getting fair pay and in this country the billionaire class continue to screw us over.
So, multiple sections of this protest have different themes from what I'm noticing. Some with an anti-war message, others with a union message for the workers, some still demanding ICE be abolished.
>> Let's get to this next crowd here, which I've heard is a Union marching band.
Everybody, hey I know.
We play for the head manager.

Do we play for the silent majority?

You guys can still see the building is standing, but the interior of it was completely destroyed.
It's now going to become a community center.
It was It reminded me of like when a lot of the national press from the coasts came to Minnesota to cover Metro Surge.
They thought it was sweet here. They did. I I was in the conversations with them and I'm like, "You guys, you don't know what happened in 2020 here. You guys forgot."
But I don't think people in Minneapolis are going to be afraid of Greg Bavino and and Chris and there were a lot of coastal press that were like, "Oh, what about Chicago? I don't know, man." I'm like, "Bro, this Minneapolis is different." I promise you. Thank you, Minneapolis, for proving me to be right.

Back in the before times, a person named George opened a store and that store was me.
Only sort of Target. Uh, you want to know more? Want to know more?
>> So, the store was called Dayton's. It was founded over 120 years ago in the yester year.
Those were the days. Those were in fact days. I was born in 1961. Dayton's was a good place.
>> I liked it. It was okay for a corporation, >> but then Target took off and became the Target Corporation and and Target encouraged other corporations to do more like it's doing.
I told everyone that I totally believe in justice and respect and rights for all. I mean, didn't you see my Pride merch section?
What a role model.
I think >> Yeah. You like that?
>> I mean, you're saying all the right things.
>> Those are extremely sexy qualities. Can I listen to your thoughts and feelings?
>> Hey, you actually want to hear what I think and feel?
>> I'm here for you.
>> Wow. So, you really do want to do right by me and my community.
>> I love you. Let's eat a part Marget pantry ice cream and look at the sunset.
So, Target said and promised all the right things. The goodness of the people and targets relationship uh continued over the years and grew and was a bit bit exploitative but uh was mostly overall okay.
But then Target got greedier and greedier.
They were no longer satisfied by their relationship with the people and wanted and wanted to do more and more and more and more.
>> Boo.
>> Wow, Target, that ice cream looks really good on you. Too bad you have to share it. Wouldn't it be cooler if you could have it all for yourself?
>> That does sound kind of nice, >> Target. You can have it all. You can be rich and complacent. You don't have to care about anyone.
>> Don't have to care.
>> That's the real joy in life.
>> But what about Target?
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on? Which side are you on? Which side are you on? Target.
Which side are you on? Which side are you on? Which side are you on, Target?
Which side are you on? I don't know.
Well, if you don't pick me, I will destroy your legacy and reputation and harass your employees and ruin your company. You will be targeted. Target >> so rich and complicit. It is >> complacent.
>> Complacent.
>> Those are very sexy qualities.
>> Oh, evil loss of morality. I could get used to this.
>> Oh, target. goodness of the people. Hold on. What are you going to do, >> Target?
Seriously, you're not going to say anything to me to ask?
I don't I don't know.
Did you just give him $1 million for the inauguration?
>> What do you expect?
>> Which side are you on, Target? Which side are you on?
Which side are you on target? Which side are you on?
Which side are you on? Which side are you on? That's enough.
>> That's enough, Target.
You said you cared about Minnesota. You said you cared about giving back and uplifting. And you said you cared about supporting people. Mostly except for your workers. But still, you cared more than most.
>> Yeah. The bare minimum.
target.
We demand answers for your silence and for your complicity in all evil's activities.
What else, people? What else do we want Target to do?
>> When human rights are attacked, what do we do?
>> Come on. When democracy is under attack, what do we do?
Target.
Target.
Which side are you on?
Which side are you on? Which side are you on? Which side are you on? Target.
Which side are you on?
>> Which side are you on? Target. Which side are you on? Get on the people side.
>> People. People. Do you want Do you want Target to stand up for us? Do you want Target to side with the people of Minnesota?
>> The people who built them?
>> Target let us down during Operation Metro Surge. Right. We have not forgotten. We still hold them accountable for the harm they caused to our communities and continue to cause to our communities. Now the stakes are even higher. Target must join us on the side of democracy and we need all of you. And how you can help us lead the charge is our demands of target.
You can give information to your workers about how they participate in democracy.
You can publicly oppose attempts to keep people from voting and organize business to do the same.
And if the will of the people is not honored, close your businesses business.
So everybody take a picture of these demands and uh there's also people in the c crowd with flyers that give you all that you need to know. and tag Target. Uh post it online and tag Target and tell them to sign our business pledge.
Come on. So the question remains, which side are you on target? Which side are you on?
>> Which side are you on target? On the people side. Which side are you on target? Which side are you on? Are you on target? Which side are you on? Get on the people's side.
Thank you everybody and stand with us to continue to demand accountability from Target and to demand that they sign on for the business for democracy pledge to ensure that we have a democracy after this year. I want to also give people a heads up. So, as as y'all were marching down the street and we were preparing here, Target got scared and closed down their store.
>> Thank you for that performance.
>> We're going to have our next target. So our next speaker is going to be um on behalf of someone else. So our Morgan is going to speak for Abdulahi who is um from Uber and Lyft organizing.
So Morgan, do you want to come over here and give that speech for So, the Target on Lake Street is now closed for the day. Got some Minneapolis police outside of it. Store managers out front, too.
successful protest. They got Target to close for the day.
>> Well, at least for the end of the day.
It's already been a full day.
So again guys, Nikima Levy Armstrong is the leader of the Target boycott. She has more to say about that.
Maybe get her on the stream again. But you we've uh covered many protests in this Target parking lot from riots to protests to all types of happenings in this parking lot.
But I'll get you guys uh some words from Nima at the next uh next protest I see her. I'll ask her about the target the state of the target boycott. There were individuals that said the boycott was over that didn't check in with Nikima or the other leaders of the target boycott movement.
So it does continue.
Nadian embargo.
Okay, I going to translate him. Uh, my English is is is poor, but I going to try to translate him.
>> Okay. His name is Luis and my name is Jesus Garcia and he's come uh represented uh as of the civiliz uh he's talking about the uh the big corporations and they lied to everybody and uh also he's uh talking about uh ICE They they lied also to everybody. They killing people inside to the uh uh detention centers and they bring us another histories and they say they the immigrants or they kill each other in the ICE detention. So that's is the big lie to tell everybody.
So No.
Blancosenosafe.
Okay. They they li they build up a big liars big lies to everybody about the uh about they said the colors or everybody you know immigrants you know we are immigrants doesn't matter the colors but they build up a liars they say uh we kill each other but the problems is ICE or the Government Okay. Uh we are suffer to pay our artilleries like rent and uh our you know uh the basket you know the uh gas and the food wherever uh we suffer to pay that and those guys they make more rich they get more money they make more money from us.
I filmed it.
Protest protest is starting to thin out now, guys.
>> I was looking for a couple of the organizers and I don't can't find them to talk to them. think or provide ideas.
So instant ass.
Donald Trump.
So because the power is not for Donald Trump. So the power we have everybody the people we are the people we have the power.
Okay. So we have to fight right now. We don't we cannot wait for another year.
So they need to know we are over here fight for everybody.
El see started.
So they also they lied about kids. They say the kids are the future but the kids are right now.
>> So it's the present.
>> So we need >> the money they spend to the war like >> Iran, Iraq or or the money they given to Israel.
>> So that money we needed for our kids over here for education.
So the Mexico say no.
So nivo americano.
>> So he say he is from Mexico. So >> Mexico is an American continent. So we are Americans. Doesn't matter where you where you you are. So he's considered American native because when he's got to the hospital they ask him about his nationality or his race and they say they push to the side to accept to say he's Hispanic but and the reality he feels like Native American.
But you guys, I can All >> right, everybody. I'm going to end it here in the Target parking lot. I couldn't. I was looking around all over for some of the organizers. If you are an organizer, just hit me up. I can always interview you on the stream at home, too. I do daily streams at home showing everybody what's going on in the world when I'm not on the ground.
>> I appreciate everybody that tuned in to the stream today covering the Mayday protest in Minneapolis, Minnesota. On the ground coverage will continue. We've been live on the ground. I've been live on the ground in Minneapolis for six years. However, we've been heavily on the ground since the start of Operation Metro Surge. You know, we taken some weeks off here and there. You know, protests aren't every day like they were when ICE was here in the 4,000 3 to 4 thousand ICE agents. So, there still is regular protesting that will continue.
We do have a governor election, governor races coming up. So, there will be a lot of attention on Minnesota for the rest of the year. I'll continue to lobby to Jordan to get more Minnesota coverage for status coup you guys. So, I'm sure they'll oblige that. Uh, you know, they got they have their streamers in uh coverage in New York and Washington and LA and so and Chicago and of course, you know, those cities will take precedent.
But, you know, I'll continue to try to get Minnesota into the stream for you guys and uh Jordan's been doing a great job of uh you know, talking with me and making sure that we can do that. So, I appreciate that. To Status Q, thank you for the opportunity to provide coverage for you guys. Thank you to everybody for watching and supporting Independent Media. Uh you guys are awesome for supporting. Again, we're live here on the ground for hours, you guys. It's not a quick little 10-second clip and go home and get a paycheck. Consider supporting Independent Media for less than $5 a month. Uh you can support becoming a member. You can support by sending super chats. Uh you can become member. I have a buy me a coffee. I think I believe uh status has something similar. I'll ask Jordan for next time.
So that way I have all that. But you guys can support on the YouTube channel.
