Lead exposure in infants can occur through multiple sources including lead paint, contaminated toys, soil, and even drinking water from lead pipes, and pediatricians recommend testing babies around 1 year of age since they frequently put objects in their mouths; levels above 5 mcg/dL are concerning and above 10 mcg/dL are highly concerning, but lead exposure is not the parent's fault as it can happen from various environmental factors.

Lead Testing Follow Up追加:
Remember I said that there are always things happening behind the scenes that we don't know about, which is why we shouldn't judge people so harshly. So, a couple months ago, Henry, my 1-year-old, tested positive for lead.
He had a level of like five in it in him. And he we got him tested again a few weeks later and it was like three something. I don't remember. I don't remember the exact like dosage of lead that was in him. And I made a video, subscription only, that was basically talked about and basically got leaked and was turned into something way bigger than it actually was because people took a moment of me being vulnerable and me feeling bad and sharing my mom guilt and turned it into me apparently being okay with my children having lead poisoning. Um but my children don't have lead poisoning.
All pediatricians should be testing babies around 1-year-old because babies are constantly putting things in their mouth.
And lead can come from multiple things.
Lead paint. It doesn't necessarily have to be on the walls. There are a lot of toys that get shipped overseas that still have lead paint.
It's something that happens.
Pediatricians are concerned when the level is over five and highly concerned when it's over 10 according to my pediatrician. I don't know what your pediatrician says. I don't know what guidelines your pediatrician follows, but that's the guideline that my pediatrician follows.
So, when Henry first tested with the lead, it was the small dose and we, me and my pediatrician, didn't know if it had come from my house, since my house is 1800s house, which means there was probably lead paint in it at one time, or the formula. And we thought that it could be either or because the formula that he was using was new to me. I had used Gerber Good Start for the older two. He's the first baby that ever used Enfamil, and I did use Enfamil during my week of menstruation and in the beginning like 2 months of life to um supplement uh because I was breastfeeding or I try I I tried to attempt you know to breastfeed. I was successful with him minus menstruation weeks. Enfamil and several other formulas had been recalled due to heavy metals which included lead.
So, I ended up buying these cotton testing kits from Amazon and I found out that those aren't even 100% accurate because you can get a false readings.
W- you know, it's it's absolutely ridiculous. But, I went all around my house, tested everything. I even tested wood. Wood that tested positive for lead which should have made me realize that the tests weren't accurate because unpainted wood shouldn't be testing positive for lead.
Anyways, before I go on a huge tangent about that Henry has been being followed by his pediatrician and has been tested every few weeks for lead to see what his levels are because I have been keeping on top of it and have been you know trying to get the lead situation under control even though it was a low level of lead. Was it still frightening?
Absolutely. Because he was the first baby that tested positive for lead. And let me tell you right now, if your baby ever test positive for lead, it's not your fault.
It is something that happens. And I really wish that people would have been more graceful towards me during the entire situation, especially after the subscription got leaked which I'm still irritated about because subscription content is paid for and whatever is being talked about in the subscription shouldn't be being blasted online because it's paid for.
And a lot of websites have rules against subscription content being shared elsewhere, especially because it's behind a paywall.
Anyways, we went and got Henry tested again today. And you can see he's got a normal amount of lead, normal low. So, it was under like a detectable whole range. My kids None of my three children have ever had lead poisoning. A level of 45 is considered lead poisoning.
And there are honestly so many different ways that this can happen. Literally just from the soil in your yard. Did you know that? Because I didn't know that until recently. If you have an old house with old pipes, guess what? Those pipes could be lead. And if you're drinking water from your faucet with those metal pipes, you could be ingesting lead. So, now we can lay to rest the lead issue.
He has what is considered normal low levels of lead, which did not come up at his screening. I just thought I would share this with people who have been waiting for an update because I know that I have spoken about the lead testing in the past and people were looking for a conclusion. Here's the conclusion.
No more lead in his body. And me, my husband, and the older two kids all had normal levels of lead when we got tested just after the baby first, you know, was positive with lead. I want to say this to anyone who may experience the situation.
If your baby has lead in their system around 12 months old, it is not your fault. It could be from multiple things, from formula to soil to metal pipes, paint. It could literally be the toys that they have and putting their mouths on. It's not your fault. Anyways, I hope you all have a good night.
