The male reproductive system involves a complex process of sperm production and release. Each testis contains approximately 250 lobules, each with 1-3 seminiferous tubules where spermatogenesis occurs. Spermatogonia (male germ cells) undergo meiosis to form sperm, with primary spermatocytes producing two secondary spermatocytes, which then produce four spermatids that mature into spermatozoa. Sertoli cells (nurse cells) support developing sperm, while Leydig cells in the interstitial space secrete androgens. The sperm pathway follows: seminiferous tubules → rete testis → efferent ductules → epididymis → vas deferens → ejaculatory duct → urethra. Seminal plasma contains fructose, calcium, and enzymes that support sperm function. For normal fertility, at least 60% of sperm should have normal shape and size, and 40% should show vigorous motility.
