Why do we draw the line at LARP?Added:
So, why do we draw the line at LAR? It's genuinely baffling me as of recently, and so I wanted to talk about it in a video. This isn't some sort of informative unique breakdown of the etmology of the phrase LAR. This is a genuine question I want to talk about with you guys because I've been getting a lot of people in my comments recently bringing up that I use the word LAR a lot. And I do. I think it is one of the funniest words to come out of the recent rejuvenation at least of 2026 alongside Chud. I think Chud is also one of the funniest and most versatile terms of all time. But I want to talk about LAR for a second because people every single time I use it in a video have asked, "Why is this word back? What is LAR doing again?
What are you what are you doing here?
What are you like 30 years old, bro?
Like where are your friends, bro? Like you're at a party." But like I like people have been asking me every single time I use it. Earlier today, I made a video about how I was in uh talking about how much I love New York, but how I've only been there a few times. And I said I didn't want to come off like a cringe larer. And the whole idea was like I'm laring as a New Yorker or at least someone who is more knowledgeable in the city than I actually am because I've been like five times ever. And so I think that people don't really realize that LAR has transmogrified from its initial meaning. Like initially and what most of the people who are asking this question know LAR stands for liveaction roleplay. And the whole idea was it's people role playinging as more often than not medieval knights or medieval things anything within medieval time.
But larping can be anything. Just, you know, going into a field with your friends and carrying sticks and beating the [ __ ] out of each other with it.
That's kind of laring a way. You know, you're laring. But now it has turned into what is essentially a replacement for the word poser. And I don't know if people recognize that. Like I'm not saying that I'm live action roleplaying as a New Yorker. I'm posing as a New Yorker by talking about it in a way that makes it seem like I know what I'm talking about. And I don't know why people are so amazed by this. I don't know why people are so baffled. Like think about it. We've had in this year alone LAR, Chud, looks Max, Mog, Kirk, Low Kirk, Locenttological, Locenttological Low State, Kiche, Penamis, probably not those last two, but I just wanted to say them again for those of you that don't know Kiche to stream is uh quirky and niche. And Penamis is peak cinema analysis. So, if you're ever uh watched a movie and or someone watched a movie and you want them to give you a breakdown of can you like can you deliver me the penis? Um, why are people drawing the line at LAR?
It It doesn't really make sense to me. I mean, realistically, it's probably some form of like intricate gatekeeping. Keep in mind, gatekeeping, another term that came out of nowhere as of recently.
Like, it's probably some intricate gatekeeping from people who have known the term forever and have, of course, engaged in the laring activities such as beating the [ __ ] out of each other in the woods with sticks and are like, "What are you doing saying LAR? You think you know what LAR was? I was there when LAR was born, bitch." And it's like, "Yeah, I get it, man. You're all noting that down. another term that's entered the recent lexicon. It really is just like an ode to how the English language and every language but the English one because that's the one that I know are constantly evolving and changing and the meanings of words are alternating and changing and shifting over time. And I think that's beautiful.
That is a that is a an ode to how our culture changes the way that we even interact with each other even in such a short amount of time as a year or two.
Can the train over there stop screaming?
Stop screaming. I'm recording a video.
Okay, he's done. Anyways, after that rude outburst, I'm going to continue.
Now, I I think it really is so silly how people have acted so confused to me in the comments to the point that it's even inspired me to make this video cuz this isn't like a one-off thing. Someone asked it in my recent video, and of course, I want to very quickly preface or I guess midfist, I midway through the video at this point. Uh, I'm not angry at you guys for asking these questions, nor do I think you're a fool, a heathen, or a Nimrod, or even a neatode for asking the question. Genuinely, I get it. Not everyone is in the same no when it comes to the cultural shifts going on. There's probably some corner of the internet you're knowledgeable of that I have no clue on. But realistically, I just wanted to inform people that LAR is back, right? LAR is back and bigger than ever, baby. All right. I think it is funny and I think that might be lowkey noting that down. Look at that. Look at all those terms. Uh one of the the goats, one of the magnum opai of uh 2026. It's amazing. You know, while we're sitting down talking about it, I'm going to cover something else. Another take that I saw of someone talking about why LAR is popular. Not the live action, not the beating the [ __ ] out of each other with Six in the Woods, but the the the word the phrase is more popular now.
A [ __ ] explosion just went, "What the hell just happened?"
I [ __ ] you not. I just heard the clicking noise that would like that you'd hear like a velociraptor make in a Jurassic Park movie happen like right on the other side of that bush. I What the hell is going on outside? I'm going to get back to what I was talking about before I was interrupted by a nuclear bomb and some biological experiment in the bushes over there. Um, so someone was coming up with this map game theory that the reason that LAR as a phrase is getting popular now in place of poser is because no one in Gen Z can be a poser because there is no genuine version of that culture in Gen Z. The whole idea that Gen Z are consumers rather than actual enjoyers of a certain niche. And that could be true if you live in a bubble and only use maybe Discord and Twitter. But I disagree wholeheartedly.
I mean, I am a member of Gen Z myself and I am a big part of the music uh like the very underground music scene in my local area, the punk scene. I of course live it. I don't buy it. I'm not someone who goes out and purchases [ __ ] to try and fit into a certain norm. I simply have a mindset that associates with that norm and I try to live it out accordingly. It would be nice if we could still look the part when it comes to certain ideologies and cultures, but the thing is everything is so goddamn expensive now that you can't look punk because it costs like $400 on Etsy and I don't want to spend $400 on [ __ ] Etsy. And so of course I think that that's a bad thing. I think that LAR purely is just a new term because the word poser bare bones old. It's just [ __ ] I think it's just a dead word. I think it's a word that people just don't really use anymore. It's like swag. Like no one says swag unless it's ironic. And so I think that it really is one of those instances where LAR is just kind of taking a word's place because that is what it is now. Instead of like I don't know maybe get like getting kitted up or I don't know what the phrase would be for dress dressing up and looking nice, looking spiffy maybe. Now it's like you got drip, right? Like that's that's a new term that replaced something. And so I I think that it really is just a side effect of the constantly evolution evolutioning of the English language. I'm still working on the English language. Speak of the devil. Um but I think that trying to claim that it's a the whole idea is people lar because there's no such thing as a non-poser is foolish and silly. And I think that the phrase itself is absolutely hilarious and people just need to accept the fact that the word doesn't mean what it used to mean. I think that there's a lot of words that have done that and that just happens. I mean, hell, Chud used to mean cannibalistic humanoid underground dweller. Now it just means a sneak viewer. Like, let's be realistic. [ __ ] just changes, right? And get with the time, Ank. Anyway, I'm going to get out of here. I just I wanted to talk about it very quickly cuz I found it very intriguing. People were asking me questions about it and I thought they're making a whole video just putting all my thoughts, swirting all my thoughts at your in your face. Um, for lack of a there's there's not a there wasn't a lack of a better word. I just decided to do that to you. Anyway, I'm going to go.
My name is still Savverino and stop laring.
