Our Reaction To Being Disrespected As A Race Is Not Up For Debate

So, I'm sure by now you've heard of Chud the Builder, the white guy who has been chimping out verbally abusing black Americans and then threatening them if they responded to his aggression with gun violence. Well, recently things escalated even further. He got into another altercation after aggressively antagonizing a black American man and the situation ended in gunfire and an attempted murder case. Now, whether or not he actually ends up serving serious jail time is a separate discussion entirely. Honestly, given how these situations often play out, people already have their own opinions on how that's going to go. But, what I really wanted to talk about isn't even the case itself, it's the discourse surrounding it. Because every single time something like this happens, society suddenly wants to turn the conversation into a debate about whether people are allowed to be offended by racial disrespect in the first place instead of addressing the obvious escalation and hostility that created the situation. Now, I have made several videos touching on this subject, so I don't want to go into it again here. Go watch those if you want to know my thoughts on this subject.

[00:01:02]What I want to discuss is the asinine notion that some people are trying to push. I recently came across a clip of DJ Akademiks and Sneako debating about black Americans' reaction to the N-word with Sneako unsurprisingly taking the [ __ ] stance that the N-word is just a word and black Americans should not react to be verbally abused, disrespected, and dehumanized. I've always found that argument intellectually dishonest. People love pretending words suddenly have no power only when the disrespect is directed at certain groups. The same people who say it's just words immediately understand the emotional and cultural weight of language the moment the target changes.

[00:01:40]To his credit, DJ Akademiks actually made a solid counterpoint by basically testing whether Sneako truly believed his own logic. But, to this individual word. Okay, if you say word has no meaning to say [ __ ] a lot right now.

[00:01:54]No, no, I'm saying I'm asking you. I'm going to ask you to say cuz it it should have no meaning, right?

[00:01:58]There's a [ __ ] meaning to it, right?

[00:01:59]>> Okay, Clearly. Like you wouldn't say that, right? Because because Do you not Do you not see the point that you're making? How are you equating God Words have meaning, brother. How are you equating God, disrespecting God, the almighty, something that we have faith in, to something that only has meaning if we attribute meaning to it? God has meaning without us. This hard R word, listen, this word only has the meaning that you give to it. Allah exists without us. What you just told me, you can't disrespect God, okay, get it, and I agree, but you can disrespect an entire group of people, and your solution to that is that entire group of people should just not be offended.

[00:02:29]That word only has He challenged him by bringing up language and phrases that would obviously offend other communities or religious groups. If words truly have no meaning, he asked Sneako to shout [ __ ] Allah. As soon as he made that point, Sneako got stun locked, likely realizing just how stupid his earlier position had been. Also, as a side note, a better example academics could have used is to ask Sneako to say [ __ ] Prophet Muhammad or [ __ ] the Palestinians, since words have no meaning, or even better, ask him to call Prophet Muhammad a son and word. You get the idea. That would have really hammered the point home. However, despite that good point, having these debates is pointless. Why should we try to justify our reaction to being disrespected by people who don't care for us? We don't need, nor should we have to justify anything to anyone about how we feel about the N-word or any racial slurs that are directed toward us. The moment we do is the moment we begin to negotiate our humanity, and that is unacceptable. The fact of the matter is this, if you don't want to face the consequences that will come from disrespecting us, then don't [ __ ] around, and you won't find out. There's also this insidious nature of telling people to ignore the hate that is being directed at them. No other group is ever told this except for Tanagerians, and in this case, Black Americans. Most groups are encouraged to stand up against prejudice directed at them, but when black Americans react to racial hostility, suddenly the conversation becomes about overreacting, being emotional, or giving words too much power. And now you have people arguing about the notion of free speech and the right to say whatever you want, failing to realize that since the dawn of man, we have always been able to say what we want relative to the time period, but not once has there ever been a time when free speech was devoid of consequences.

[00:04:18]This is simply not a discussion to be had. If a slur is used against us, we have every right to react however that individual in question being verbally assaulted deems fit. People need to stop acting confused when repeated disrespect, provocation, and racial hostility eventually create conflict.

[00:04:36]Human beings are not robots. Actions provoke reactions. That's true in every society on Earth. At the end of the day, racial slurs are meant to demean, dehumanize, humiliate, and antagonize.

[00:04:51]People know exactly what they're doing when they use them, especially in confrontational situations. So, all this performative confusion afterward always comes across as fake to me. But, yeah, that's it. That's all I want to say. Let me know what you guys think of all this.
