Government policies such as minimum wage increases, VAT thresholds, and regulatory burdens have made it increasingly difficult for small businesses to hire workers, contributing to youth unemployment by eliminating traditional manufacturing jobs that previously provided stable employment opportunities for young people.

Youth unemployment crisis! Unskilled people closing down skilled industries there's your problem.Added:
Morning, everybody.
Hope everybody's well.
Right, this morning video. Right, we've got it all over media at minute.
The ridiculous youth unemployment. Well, um This is a surprise, isn't it?
>> [laughter] >> This is a surprise. Right, so we've got people at uni, colleges. So, they're not on list anyway, so they're young men.
And we've got now they're saying all this Is it one in six? I don't know what they're saying or something like that.
Just It's a It's quite a high percentage, but they've already moved goal posts because I think that they've moved some benefits to 18s, so they can't account for them, right? Now, well, right, listen.
I've said this times many.
I mean, when I started, I started with Barry, probably 10 year old. He even got mentioned at his funeral. He even got mentioned at his funeral about starting as a young man and working with him all them years.
And um 10 years old, I were brazing in half an hour. Probably a bit longer. Might have been half an hour, three quarters of an hour. And I were brazing aluminum minx in a wing. We were just putting a patch on. You couldn't put a patch on like that now. They won't accept that. You've got to do it another way. I mean, well, to be honest, people weren't even using bottles. They weren't actually using bottles, you know, so So, that's probably part and parcel of what I'm going to refer to. Now, um Right, going back to that era.
Everybody who left school, they used to come down to school, people. They used to come from coal board, railway. They used to come from technical colleges.
They used to come from everything. To show you what were available and what were there for you. Well, well, what we've done now, we've just got rid of all that.
All that has gone completely out the window.
And um there's nowt left. I mean, Marple Richards ended road here. I think they employed a couple of thousand. You know, a big massive factory. It even got railway lines into it. It used to make all up points, too. You know, they used to All washers come from there. I think now they come from uh Turkey.
And they swear at the end of something cuz they have a program on it and app cuz we bought one and I don't know it called it ended up calling Mrs. or something but apparently a means another code for a thing when she rung up about it she thought I'd been messing with her. Well, our young assistant looked at my mate and he said he couldn't even do no like that program. I was talking to my mate.
So, I think they're even taking Mick out of this now. That was actually Mick. I think they're all I think they're off by hours or might be now they might be over but what anyway but what I mean around here, you know, these did everything down here but that's all gone. My brother used to work there he was a fitter.
A tool maker and then he moved from there obviously when he left making tools and then then he ended up going to NCB because he got somehow he got laid off on something he shouldn't have got laid off they offered him job there to compensate him even over it but he ended up with a what is it engineer mechanical and electrical engineer NCB big eye player but that that's another tale. Cuz like that's all gone NCB there's all loads of lads I know that worked at Pete.
Loads of lads I know worked at steel works and eventually they all like sort of satellited out.
Right? So, I mean I can remember I mean he's not here with us anymore. Pete Pete crossed the magic map he turned alarms off. Pete Pete was sparky at steel works. Now, Pete just um he set an alarm business up his lad runs it now.
Like I said Pete's not with us and then anyway I'm talking about mate and he um he what is it set this little bit of alarm business up. Well, that alarm business wasn't ever going to employ like steel works or good now. You know, his brother worked at steel works I don't know whatever his brother ended up ended up doing but all this dilution all this time and all this industry is um well, that's where all these jobs have got snabbled and all we've done over years and and they're all guilty all the governments is all we're going to invest in do this.
We're going to invest in well, they just set up call centers.
And then just to get the same like sort of votes and um you know, and and brownie points. Then the lot put minimum wage up and up and up. Listen, I'm not saying people shouldn't have a decent wage. That is the last thing I'm saying, but I would have thought it'd have been far easier if they'd have curbed housing.
You know, and so kept like prices sensible because they've got a situation now where it's it's a compound effect with you because I know a lot of them I know a lot of people are looking, and a lot of people would would love to come into like this industry. You know, they'd love to.
But you you just can't afford to take them on. You know, and the what the what they need a week to live is um well, it's phenomenal.
So, you know, even I mean I I I watched people walk down to the bagel factory. I mean, I was I I was working to me saying yesterday so I walked down yesterday, and it were raining. So, I put my brolly up. Got a brolly from me under the stairs, walked out, hammering it down.
When I brolly I were the only person with a brolly.
They're all walking down here they're in like casual sort of not much clothes cuz it's warm. All getting drenched, and I'm like under the brolly dry walking in and I thought, "Oh."
Well, there must be a just a different I don't know. You You You had must work different. To me I just thought, "Well, there's no point in me getting wet cuz I'll probably catch a cold or something." You know, that's how I thought. I mean, all right, I'm in me 60s, they might have been in their 20s.
But um but they're going out at bagel factory, and they're probably on 12-hour shifts.
Whatever minimum wage is now. So, they're probably earning 500 quid, but they're probably paying it all out in rent this, that, and other. So, you've got them all doing a bit down there in the train, you know, and stuff like that, but that's only real big employer around here now. I mean, Stelrad's more automated. They make radiators. They've got You know, they haven't got the workforce like they used to have.
There's There's not Dale Brown glass place now. That's all gone, you know.
So, I'm just reeling off industries that employed a lot of people and a lot of young people. So, that's who we stuck, but even if they get minimum wage, and let's let's say I don't know. Let's say they get 500 quid.
Well, they're probably their rent now is 200 if they've got a family. And so she'll have to work and then rates on top of it, you know. And like running a business like this. Nah.
VAT threshold now, I don't know what it is, 80, 90 grand, right? Well, I can't even set anybody on.
And have them here with me and pay them a wage because of what they're doing.
It'd take me into VAT. Well, customers can't afford another 20%. It just can't be done. It It's VAT. It's probably I might have just broke even this this week. I might have just broke even. It's not been a great week. Short week, bank holiday, you know. So So this is like just probably broke even. Well, we can't If If I'd have had somebody on, and then there wouldn't have been any more work coming in like probably cracking on with it with these tools, but it's probably had to watch them like an hawk behind me because it's it's like down to the delicate and finer details.
So like they took my time up. And then we'd have probably lost more money. I mean, I'm not saying we have lost money this week. We've probably like just said broke even. But with their wage on top, we might have lost money. You know, well, that's where we'd have been. So But they won't I mean, there's no incentive for I mean, like firms starting up now, I mean, I don't understand why the government don't give them something silly like a VAT threshold or um I don't know, half a million.
So they haven't got VAT burden. Or they can learn to claim the VAT back, but they haven't got to charge it, you know.
I mean, they get rates rebate on like small businesses like this. Well, if they slap that on now to to fund these gaps cuz they've got more people on benefits cuz they can't find a job.
Well, that'll shut this doors as well.
You know, that that's exactly where it's going because for some unknown reason, and this hasn't This hasn't started in 5 minutes. This has This has a lot This has been going hell of a long time. 20, 30 year ago.
They've just cut and cut and cut and cut and short and short and short. Bigger and bigger We had Harvestore at Doncaster, a big massive tractor case.
And um they were massive employers. They were at ICI up there as well, massive employees. You know, Brian and Roach were up there, they're peddlers. All All these people were in this area.
And they were all big employers. Well, if that's what's happened here, well, that's what's happened in rest of world in rest of country, sorry. Because it was just wound it and wound it and wound it down. And this government after government, instead of help, like now China are roaring away and we're having to buy their stuff. But now we haven't got people in and they're running about the missed generation. It's been one missed generation. This is two or three missed generations.
And now we are servicing Chinese economy.
But why won't we serve it Why aren't we servicing our own? And now we can never get it back. All these machines that we had all these great big things that did this, that, and the other. I mean, they had drilling machines down there at Murphy's. I've been I went to Murphy's, I've seen it all. Phenomenal. They had their own plating place for chrome. They had everything.
Unbelievable setup. All that's gone. You could never ever set that up again.
Well, you probably won't even be allowed to set it up again. Oh, that Let me put it this way, you can't do [snorts] that.
You know, you can't do that. Oh, you can't Oh, we need another layer of management in here to do that.
Well, that's it.
That's what you've done.
You've completely and utterly like obliterated that every everything that people did that worked with these and you pushed them all to push one of them. Well, you know that now, cuz you push the keypad. You don't write. You don't write your notes in a book.
You know, then you pile a lot of red tape on.
And you've sneaked in a lot of stealth taxes. That's That's exactly what the governments have done. And now they're wondering why it won't balance out.
They're not listening to proper people who are saying, "Well, couldn't you see this was coming?"
You know, couldn't you see we were going to have this issue?
You know, if you're you And you can't tax your way out of a a problem like this. You know, you can't take more off people like myself or working people. Now, I know for a lot of you are working. You can't keep adding on to their burden. But they're they're finding it they're fighting like mad to survive. To pay over people. So, and the I watched it It would have It would have been a Blair right and I saw a bit of something last night on the news. I mean, it was obviously something to do with Tony Blair when he was in power. I don't know exactly what and he was saying, "Well, there's no There's no We're not wanting to fast fix solution for this. We want a long-term thing."
Well, you've shut long-term thing clock.
All of you.
You've been shutting it for 30 years above.
You know, you've just closed it down more and more. Don't do that locals.
Don't do this. Don't do that. Well, that That's where it all started. I come down in Zodiac today.
Right, I come down set up cuz I know what I'm doing. So, it's fired up and then I'm just looking at that and I'm smoking to me saying, "Just like that and it's got a text mirror."
You know, it's a text mirror. And then also I think text mirror surround for dashboard. And I'm looking at switches and I think that they're my I can't remember who's responsible for switches.
It weren't Lucas. It might be an AC.
You know, and I'm looking at other bits because cuz I'll find it make all them bits the same. They had factories or factories all made them.
I put an an eight-day motor on the line.
And then a proper Smith's eight-day motor. Well, that don't exist.
You know, I got an old stock one that I got. And then that factory would have made them made them for everybody. Well, it ain't even there.
And that's where this big void is now that we've got this missed generation.
What ain't a missed generation?
And this is me telling politicians like you, you're going to I don't know, smoke and mirrors all this, all what you're going to do and you're going to do naff all cuz to end it there, you're just a bunch of muppets. That's all that cuz I anybody with any element to Well, you didn't listen to people tell you this would come.
You wanted to fight and you wanted to destroy them. It would become a silly game. Crush them. Do this. Well, the unions did need knocking down.
Well, they didn't need crushing. They needed to say get them in a room with the management, with the people signing the checks and what sorting out and saying right, we're going to get his head round this table and we're going to see resolve this properly.
And if somebody wants to go on strike because the real of bog roll just isn't as big as they'd like it to be, well, they'd better look at for a job elsewhere where they can find a place where what bog roll is the right size for We needed to get rid of all patheticness.
And everybody needed to stick together and everybody needed to make an effort because now it's too late. I mean, that's probably somebody going to bag a factory now.
They're probably a bit late to be selling that bog roll now.
But um Nah.
That's where we're at and uh and that's where we're stopping at. So, I know it's probably a little bit different this video and I've just skipped that and just cuz I do go on about these things and sometimes I can get a little bit political. Well, this is 100% what it is as well. It affects like what I do cuz I can't pass on where I do cuz of policies now. You know, I don't even I don't even put think they've put the drive into you the youth today by way they've guided them all to want to do what I do now. So, that's about it.
And well, the future Well, there's none. I've told you times many. This will just phase out. I mean, I love this. I'd love somebody to come in here and I'd love to have me desk right nice, all my paperwork carried.
Not like the bed limit is.
You know, when I know I've got to get them photos and send them down to Mike and I've got to You know, I mean, I'm pretty neat. I have to tidy it all up and give it to him and he's he's he does an excellent job of what he does for me.
You know, I mean, he took over from one of me mates who passed on and um but I'd love it all to be nice and perfect, but I'd also love it to be affordable to be able to do that. You know, I'm not not kidology, because that's all it is, you know. Just cuz somebody can move a bit of this paper and like I said, press a keyboard and all that. Well, they're not they're not worth 50 grand. And they're not they don't need to get this in-depth level of what they have to get into get there, because it's quite obvious now all these policies Oh, you need an education. Oh, you need this.
Oh, you need that. Oh, you've got to go to school. You've got to go to that.
It's failed, because only policy they should have had is we need to have some jobs for you when you leave school.
And then you'll be pretty all right.
You'll be able to support your family, have a family, live in a house at a realistic cost.
And you'll be able to survive. So.
That's my video anyway, really. So, I'll catch you with you all tomorrow.
Give us a like if you like it and pass a comment. We appreciate it. And subscribe to me channel.
