This lesson covers three common English grammar mistakes: (1) 'Belong to' is used with people or ownership (e.g., 'This book belongs to you'), while 'belong in' is used with places (e.g., 'This photo belongs in the bedroom'); (2) Instead of saying 'I have stress,' native speakers say 'I am stressed' because stress is a feeling like tired or excited; (3) 'Better' is already the comparative form of 'good,' so 'more better' is incorrect—use 'much better,' 'a lot better,' or 'even better' instead.

Avoid these mistakes : I don’t belong to here, I have stress, it’s more better.
Added:Hi, my dear friends. I'm back. Look at the sentence.
Uh do you think it's correct or can you find a mistake in the sentence?
This photo belongs in the bedroom.
Belongs in?
Is it correct? Belongs to is correct.
So, this sentence is incorrect. No.
The sentence is correct because we have belong to and belong in. Both of them are correct. So, what's the difference?
Belong to, the one that you probably know, is when you say this cell phone, for example, this phone belongs to you, it means it is your cell phone. So, after belong to, we use a person. It belongs to me. It belongs to you. But after belong in, we use a place.
Like this photo belongs in the bedroom.
What does it mean? It means this is the place where you keep that. This is the place where it should go. So, this photo doesn't shouldn't be in the kitchen because this photo belongs in the bedroom. It should be on the wall in the bedroom. So, belong to person, belong in a place. All right?
Example. This book belongs to you. It means it is your book. Take it. This book belongs to you. Now, this book belongs in the library, not to the library. Library is not a person. This book belongs in the library. It means >> [clears throat] >> I need to give it back to the library because they keep this book in the library. It's not my book. So, this is the place where they keep it. So, we use belong in. [snorts] All right?
Example, the city belongs to all of us.
Let's keep it clean. So, it means it is our city. It is for all of us. So, it belongs to us. Now, I feel I don't belong in this city.
It means it's not my place.
I don't feel comfortable in this city. I can't make friends. I can't find a good job. So, I need to go to another city. I don't belong in this city. It means it's not the right place for me.
So, belong to person, belong in a place.
Now, you answer this one. He belongs the English club.
Well, English club is like a a place.
So, we should say he belongs in.
But, no. Uh when you are talking a group, uh when you're talking about a group or organization, or when you're saying someone is a member of a group, or a member of a club, we can say belong to. So, he belongs to the English club.
I belong to a jogging group.
I belong to that group and we go jogging every morning. So, this is another point. Belong to a group means you are a member of a group. Well, this is the difference between belong to and belong in. Now, sentence number two.
I have stress because of my interview next week.
>> [snorts] >> Correct, incorrect. I have an interview next week and because of that, I I have a stress.
Well, the problem is I have a stress.
Uh it's understandable if you say I have a stress, others understand you. But, it's not natural. It's not how native speakers say it.
Uh listen, tired.
How do you say it? I am tired.
Excited. I am excited.
Relaxed. I am relaxed. Now, stress.
I am stressed. So, stress is a feeling.
It's a condition like tired, like excited, like uh relaxed. So, we use am.
e d I am tired. I am stressed. This is the most natural way you can say it. I am stressed. Or sometimes you can say I am under stress, or I am stressed out, or I feel stressed. They are correct, but I have a stress is not natural. All right?
Uh now, what about stressful?
A stressful is something or someone that makes you feel stressed.
For example, I have an exam tomorrow. I am stressed.
My exam is stressful because the exam makes me feel stressed.
So, it's stressful.
He was in a stressful situation. It means the situation gives or gave him stress. So, stressed and stressful.
That's the difference.
Uh now, you answer this one. She's always because her job is hard and All right, which one?
The first one, she is. You're talking about a person.
The second one, you're talking about her job. Her job makes her feel stressed.
So, she is stressed. She's always stressed because her job is hard and stressful. This is the difference.
Now, sentence number three. Look.
My life became more better after I got married.
Natural, correct, incorrect.
There is something wrong.
Uh my life is more better.
Do we ever say more better? No.
But many students say more better.
What's right with it?
We can say much better or a lot better. But we don't say we can't say more better. Why? Because better already has e r.
You don't need more. You can't use more and e r together. It's like when you say bigger big bigger. So, no one says more bigger. We don't use more and e r together. One of them, big bigger.
You know, we have some adjectives like big, good, expensive, famous. These are adjectives. Now, we have some comparative adjectives. Big bigger.
Good better.
Expensive more expensive. No one says expensiver. Famous more famous. So, the first group is adjectives. The second group is comparative adjectives.
Comparative adjectives have e r, bigger, or more. More expensive. Now, here's the tip. Before adjectives, we can use very. Very big. But before comparative adjectives, we can't use very.
We use much.
So, very big much bigger. Very bigger is not correct.
Uh very good, much better.
Very better or more better is not correct.
Expensive or very expensive? Now, much more expensive. Listen, I'm talking about New York. New York is very expensive. Now, I'm going to compare New York and Houston.
So, New New York is very expensive.
New York is much more expensive than Houston.
Okay? Another example, Toronto. Toronto is cold or Toronto is very cold. Now, I compare Toronto and Vancouver.
So, Toronto is very cold. Toronto is much colder than Vancouver.
And Toronto is very colder than Vancouver is wrong. We never say very and er or very and more. We never say very. We never use very before comparative adjectives. So, uh listen to these examples. New York is very big.
New York is much bigger than Ottawa.
And very bigger is wrong.
Toronto is very cold. Toronto is much colder than Vancouver. Very colder is wrong.
German, uh the language, I mean. German is very difficult.
German is than English. How would you answer it?
German is You are comparing German and English.
So, German is much more difficult than English. Or German is much harder than English. But we can't say very harder.
Okay? We never use very before comparative adjectives.
The weather is good today.
The weather is than yesterday.
What? How How would you answer it? The weather is good today. The weather is much better than yesterday. So, we don't say more better. We don't say very better. Much better than yesterday.
Now, you answer this one.
Uh homemade food is than fast food.
Think about it.
There are four options.
Now, let's uh could you answer the question?
Let's analyze the choices one by one.
Number one, more healthier. No.
Healthier has er.
So, we can't say more healthier.
It's It's not correct. Like more better.
It's not correct. B, very healthier.
Again, healthier has er. It's comparative. And I told you we can't use very before comparative adjectives.
C, much more healthy. For healthy, we use er.
We don't use more. There are some adjectives that have two parts, like healthy, and they end in y.
So, if you have a two-syllable adjective that ends in y, we don't use more.
We use easy We use er. So, heal- thy, healthier. Ea- sy, easier.
Hea- vy, heavier. Dir- ty, dirtier.
Okay? So, famous has two syllables, and easy has two syllables. But, we say more famous, and we say easier because easy ends in y. Okay? So, always remember healthier, easier, heavier, dirtier, and many more.
Uh so, C is not correct and the correct answer is D, much healthier. Homemade food is much healthier than fast food.
So, I tried to um look into two three very common mistakes among students and I hope from now on you never make these mistakes again.
Take care. See you soon.
