How Logic Gates (AND, OR, NOT) actually work in Excel

[00:00:00]In the world of data, it's rare to have only one condition when using if statement. If we have multiple conditions, this is where logic gates come in handy. We're discussing three today, and or not. Let's get to it. And takes two conditions and checks if both of them met the requirements at the same time. It goes like this, and let's say this here region equals to central.

[00:00:27]And second condition, product equals to widgets.

[00:00:34]It gives true or false depending of both of them are matching or not. Or it checks only if one condition is true. So it could be either of them or both of them. So we say or region equals central.

[00:01:02]Check. And as you can see, if one of them met the requirements, it's true. If both of them met the requirement, it's true as well. Not, all it does is just flip everything. It flips what's true false and it flips what's false true.

We have this data here and we want to check if the region is southwest and product is widgets and if that is true, we want to provide a bonus. So we say if and region equals southwest and product equals widgets.

[00:02:05]And in that case we have only couple that provide bonus.

[00:02:10]Let's say that we want to flip it, we just put not.

[00:02:15]And once we do that, what is true becomes false and what is false becomes true.
