CDC Says Americans Exposed As Ebola Outbreak Spreads: What To Know

[00:00:00]At least six Americans have been exposed to Ebola as a concerning outbreak spreads in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. In a statement, [music] the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said they are supporting inter-agency partners who are actively coordinating the safe withdrawal of a small number of Americans who are directly affected by this outbreak. The CDC has yet to confirm whether any of the US citizens exposed have Ebola, but at least one of those exposed is showing symptoms and needs to be evaluated to determine whether or not they have the deadly virus. Meanwhile, they continue to [music] insist that the risk to the American population remains low.

[00:00:39]Nevertheless, the World Health Organization has called the outbreak a public health emergency of international concern. Over 300 cases have been confirmed so far and more than 80 deaths have so far been linked to the outbreak.

[00:00:53]This is all happening at a time when there's also concern over a hantavirus outbreak and at a time when the CDC is working with way [music] fewer staff after major cuts hit the health agency.
