Trying GPS Farming in a Vintage Tractor Went Wrong

[00:01:39]>> That's what GPS is all about. Farmers used to hang sacks at one end of the field. Oh, really?

[00:01:44]>> Try to aim the sacks, but now we don't have to do that, >> right?

[00:01:47]>> So now we install the GPS, the tractor.

[00:01:54]The tractor you're running is the cab tractor over there.

[00:03:10]>> Apparently, I'm going to be driving this Alice Chowmers today. I've never run any of these that are a little more, what's the word? vintage.

[00:05:02]This guidance pattern is called last pass on this Raven Cruiser 2 GPS. It's best used for like irregular shaped fields or paths where you make your first pass and then it will stick to that and kind of give guide you based on your first line.

[00:05:25]>> Wow, look at that. That's fancy. What it's going to do is record your progress by a green bar.

[00:05:32]>> Okay?

[00:05:33]>> And it's going to when you turn, it's going to show you lots of red lines that are your exact dimension of your tool.

[00:05:42]>> You're going to pick out like the fourth or fifth line to make a land.

[00:05:45]>> Okay.

[00:05:46]>> When you get to that big green spot that won't let you go through, you'll have to go around it, obviously.

[00:05:51]>> Oh, yeah. The mouse. You'll >> still find your line when you go back.

[00:05:57]Well, it's very simple.

[00:06:10]>> You have to use brakes sometimes to get the front wheels to not spin.

[00:07:37]Gosh. Okay, this tractor is not too hard to drive. It's not as smooth as the other ones, but it's all right.

[00:07:46]I like having the GPS, though. That's definitely helpful.

[00:07:53]It's a nice little curve I've got going up there and then it lines up straight.

[00:08:00]Okay, I got this. I think it's very windy in here compared to the cab that has doors and windows. I kind of wish I wore like a heavier jacket.

[00:09:09]Okay, I'm styling now. It's too cold in that tractor, so I borrowed all mom's clothes. Very purple today. I did not expect to be in this tractor. All right, back in the tractor I go.

[00:09:24]Unfortunately, when I came back from putting on some extra clothes, the GPS went off as soon as I turned the tractor back on. And at that point, I didn't know how to turn it back on. So, I just kind of went along the lines I'd already established, which worked just fine. But I did miss the GPS. Okay, that was fun.

[00:09:46]I was going to go back toward the house so that dad could take over and the clutch slipped out.

[00:09:54]So, as you can see, this is where normally I would push the clutch down, but it's like it fell if I go to push it. I was like, I guess I'll just keep driving in circles all night cuz it won't turn off. So, I just turned the switch on the side to stop, but I only got probably halfway back, maybe a little more.

[00:10:39]Well, I was just going to come back to the house. I didn't see what you did.

[00:10:44]>> You broke it.

[00:11:03]>> Yeah. So, this little >> the cotter pin broke out and it shook out of there. Shook it out of the hole.

[00:11:14]>> We just got to put a pin back in there.

[00:11:18]>> Yeah, you have to turn it on. Run.

[00:11:20]>> I knew there was something silly about this tractor. I just wasn't sure.

[00:11:23]>> That's how I turned it off cuz I was like, "How do I turn it off? It just wants to keep going."

[00:11:28]>> Cuz I couldn't shift it. Okay.

[00:11:30]>> Well, you can't turn the key and it didn't shut it off.

[00:11:33]No, it must have just like the vibration of the tractor >> just knocked it out.

[00:11:40]>> This >> We're going to find a pin.

[00:11:43]>> Cotter pins.

[00:11:44]>> Yeah, he's got a bunch.

[00:11:45]>> Got a bunch of them all in here.

[00:11:48]>> And he's got some in the tool boxes on the tractors.

[00:11:50]>> All right, we're going to go see if we can fit a cotter pin in there and fix it. Brr. No heat in that tractor. Darn it. I've been spoiled.

[00:13:46]>> I mean, it's sufficient to get it over to the get a better fix.
