[00:00:00]Horror is not political. History is actually the real horror. Here are some historical horror books that I highly recommend. I'm just going to start off with the one everybody is expecting and that is the reformatory by Tananarive Due. The hype is real. This book is incredible. Robbie gets sentenced to a segregated boy school and he starts seeing ghosts. This book is a gut-wrenching masterpiece. Deals with class and racism and the horror that is America. Speaking of masterpieces, The Buffalo Hunter Hunter by Stephen Graham Jones. Historical indigenous vampires, revenge. This book is told in letter form, which is a style that I absolutely love. Stephen Graham Jones just writes on another level. And if it's not for you, you just have bad taste. I'm so sorry. Goodbye. Ring Shout by P. Djèlí Clark. It's 1915 and the demons in America wear white hoods. This is about black resistance fighters versus the Klan plus magic. Super visual book, super strong characters. One of my top recommended books. Lone Women by Victor LaValle. This is a weird west historical horror with BIPOC characters. It is very rare that I want to read a western horror written by a white person. I'd say uh the exception probably being Red Rabbit. But with BIPOC leads, absolutely, I'm eating it up. This is creepy, yes. It's atmospheric. It's very fun. What is in the trunk?
