MAY RESET ๐ธ๐ DINK couple budget + overspending ๐, planning & goalsAdded:
We over spent. There was one week I didn't even pay myself. April was not the month for money, let me tell you.
$51930 on my pets.
We didn't have the best financial month in April. Lots of spending, lots of life hiccups, but that's all part of the fun.
Am I right? Let's get into the May budget. [singing] Hello, my loves. Welcome back to my channel. Welcome to our May reset. It is a very dark, dingy, rainy, gloomy, depressing day today. I thought I'd juzj up our typical reset location and do it from the kitchen table today because I have a lot to go through with you. And all I can say is [music] April did us dirty. It was actually a very, very good month. I had a beautiful month. I had lots of fun this month, lots and lots of family time. But the bank account has seen better days and we need to talk about it because what you're about to hear in today's reset is the epitome is the actual reason as to why Zach and I budget so frantically and so religiously because we overspent. There was one week I didn't even pay myself and we'll get into it a little bit later but the bank account has seen better days. April was not the month for money let me tell you but May will be and we'll talk about it in a second. I hope you guys have had a really beautiful April. There is so much that happened in the month of April for me that has really just lit me up. I'm feeling so motivated, so inspired. You guys are picking up on it as well. I'm posting more. I'm chatting more. I'm on YouTube more. I'm just having a really good time. Okay, so like we always do in every single one of our reset videos, I'm going to go through the month that's been all the goals and the budget from the month that's been, which we know is April, and then we will have a look at my goals for May and budget for May.
What did we set for April in terms of goals? Let's start at the top. Okay, so starting at the top, for April's personal goals, I only had two. The first one is more play. So coloring in, baking for fun, reading fun books instead of personal development or business books. That one we absolutely did. I spent a lot more time in the kitchen this month. A lot more time offline as well doing things that actually filled up my cup. So I'm going to say that one was ticked off. The second one was more intentional date nights with Zach. We didn't do that. We didn't. We didn't. not in April because we were basically every single opportunity we had to go on a date night was on a weekend and we were in Brisbane every single weekend in April and we'll go through why in a moment. Health and wellness goals for April was to get back into the gym at least three times per week getting back into my strength training and we absolutely did that. I am feeling so much better now that I'm moving properly intentionally through a program again. I told you guys that I'm just using the kick app and I'm loving that at the moment. The second health and wellness goal that I wanted to tick off and I did tick off was to do a weekly check-in in my health and wellness journal. And this is just to keep me on top of am I nailing what I need to be nailing in terms of my health and wellness priorities. So, tick tick tick. We did well in health and wellness this month. Career goals.
We smashed this one out of the park. So, I only had one career goal for the month of April because it was quite big, and that was to look into office or warehouse space for myself. And if you haven't watched any of my other videos, if you don't follow me on Instagram, which you should, by the way, or even on Tik Tok, you should do that, too. By the way, I moved into an office, my very first office space. I am so incredibly over the moon. I'm feeling so inspired, so motivated, and this is partially the reason why I am so on track right now. I feel like I've got so much momentum because I'm working in an office. So, I actually share the space with my beautiful photographer, Nicola from the Sunday Edit, and we are colleagues now.
We share a beautiful office together, and we both feel so happy, so inspired.
We are so incredibly over the moon. I can safely, happily, very excitingly report career goal for April tick.
Financial goal for April, we actually did not achieve. And that's okay cuz we'll get into it. We'll get into why a little bit later, but that was to add $3,000 into the house deposit fund in April and we were $500 short. So, we did not obtain that financial goal and that is so fine. While we are talking about April, we may as well go through the April budget. And before I do, a quick preface as I always do in my reset videos. Zach and I own our own companies. I own Beck Stewart PTY LTD.
Zach owns an electrical company. And every single week, we pay ourselves a wage from what our business earns. So regardless of what we earn, whether it's lower than usual or more than usual, we will always take the same amount. We do not own a home. We do not have children.
We live very leanly, very happily, and we pay ourselves a small amount for tax purposes. Let's go through April's budget. We need to talk about it because there was ever a month where I have sat down, looked at the budget, and thought, "Thank [music] God I'm on top of our money." Because what the hell was that month? It's this month. It was April. So, having a look at April's income, Zach paid himself most weeks a little bit more than usual.
I paid myself the same as usual except for the week of the 20th of April. And that's because it cost me a bomb to move into that office. I'm talking bond, first month rent, new desk, new chair for Zoe, new newness of everything, right? So, I spent a lot of money in the business and Zach and I agreed. You spent a lot of money this week. Don't worry about paying yourself. Keep money in the business. It's been an expensive business week. Don't pay yourself. I got you, boo boo. And that's on having a supportive partner. That's on marriage as partnership. And that's on having the best husband ever. And you can see down the bottom there, we had $1,050 in miscellaneous income. And that was from a job Zach did outside of his normal work. So that was just an extra little on the side income. Bills were basically the same. Our private health insurance went up. I feel like it went up last month. It did. [music] Anyway, our private health insurance went up by $16 plus and our gas went up by 17. Our subscriptions and memberships are always the same. Now, this is where we see a lot of red in the budget. This is where we can see spending was a little bit excessive. That's where our expenses come into play. Throughout the month of April, as I said, Zach and I were traveling to Brisbane. For context, is about an hour and a half away from where we live. It's where my family lives. We were there almost every single weekend for the entire month of April. Actually, end of March all the way through to last week. We were there literally almost a week ago. My nana got quite sick and she was in the hospital. And one thing about me is if there's one person on this earth that I love more than anything, obviously it's my husband and my parents and what have you, but my nana holds a very special place in my heart. And when she's sick, my world stops. So I went and visited her almost every single weekend. So we were obviously driving to and from Brisbane. We were obviously eating out a little bit more, eating hospital food. We at one stage Nana stopped eating entirely and all she felt like eating was chicken nuggets and the hospital didn't serve that at the time when she wanted it. So we actually drove and we picked pick her up some nuggets and it was a full thing. So, I guess the moral of the story is we were spending more, we were out more, we were buying more on the road, our fuel costs were a little bit higher, and because I actually got really sick of eating out, like takeaway all the time, I we were doing more trips to the grocery store in Brisbane, buying our family food, buying our family coffee. It was just a very high spend month. It was also Zach's birthday.
He got what he wanted. I got Zach a mixer. He wants to start making everything from scratch. So, I actually did pay for that myself. It's just it was a really, really, really high spend month. And it was one of those things where every overspend was completely out of our control. Life happens. People get sick. Duty calls, family calls, and especially that's another thing when you are living so far away from your family and an hour and a half isn't that far in hindsight. But driving more on the road more, of course, you're going to spend a little bit more. Expenses. Let's start at the top with groceries. We spent $283.37 over budget. That was expected. As I said, we were just doing dashes to and from the IGA, to and from our local grocery store cuz we weren't at home to eat all the food we had at home. Eating out, surprisingly, we only went $3140 over budget. That was because we had already spent the $200 on takeaway, basically. and I got so sick of it and I did not want any more takeaway. So, we just kept going to the grocery store to get little meals that we could make ourselves. Fuel, we of course went over budget. Not by much, though. $19.78 over budget. Again, we were traveling to and from Brisbane every single week.
Clothing, beauty, zero as per budget. I don't know why, but Zach has started using our money to pay for his grooming, which is completely fine. I just didn't budget for it. And you can tell his grooming is very expensive. He did two haircuts throughout the month of April.
I'll let you do the math as to how much they are. Pets, $269.30 cents over budget for my pets. I'll tell you why. We actually decided last minute to get Lacy and Dex groomed. So, that was a large cost. Zach has also started buying the dogs dry food in bulk. So, we paid a little bit more for that. didn't budget for that this month, but that's where the cost came in. And also, randomly, there was a $16.90 Leica charge. Don't know what that was for. So, we pay Leica twice. So, every Fortnite it gets direct debited out of our account, but then there was an extra $16.90 out of that. Not sure. We'll look into that later. Health, we went $85.97 over budget. And that is because I have decided to start weekly acupuncture.
It's just something I wanted to do when I could feel myself getting a little bit stressed around when Nana got sick. And I thought, I'm being proactive when it comes to my nervous system this year, not reactive. I'm not waiting till something blows up or gives out or I kink my neck. I'm going and I'm being proactive because I know that's how I stay on top of life. That's how I stay on top of my health and my fitness, my career, is when I'm proactive. When things are starting to feel a little bit niggly, I was doing weekly acupuncture.
Now that I've done four weeks of that, I'm now bumping back to monthly acupuncture. At the end of March, when I did this budget, I wasn't going to go to acupuncture, but now that I am, we can insert that into our budget. Very, very good though. I pay $44 for that acupuncture appointment because of our health insurance. So, it's living. There was a few other health related purchases like at the chemist and all that kind of stuff, but it was mostly those acupuncture appointments. Presents. I just ended up drawing more from my business. Again, such a privilege that I can do that, but I didn't account for it in this budget because no one really saw it and I tried to do it a little bit discreetly and I didn't want it to pull across. Anyway, didn't want Zach to catch on to it, but I drew more for my business that I could pay for Zachie B's prey. Coffee under budget. Surprising, I know. And miscellaneous. We ended up spending $64 over budget. That was because I got a few things for my new office from Kmart. So, just some little bits and pieces. That definitely should have been a business expense, but I used the wrong card. It's fine. It happens.
I'm going to keep those receipts and we will claim them. Now, because we spent too much this month and there was an entire week that I did not pay myself because I I spent lots and lots of money moving into the office, we have had to cut back on putting money into our savings and debt this month. Not by much though in hindsight. Our savings goals was $1,000 into travel. We only put $750. So that's a $250 difference.
That's completely fine. House fund, we wanted $3,000. We only ended up putting in $2.25. So that's a $750 difference.
Emergency fund, we only got half of that 1,000 in. And then same same for car expenses. personal loan, we only got $500 in, making that a 1.5k difference. Not a great month for our savings and debt. However, this is why we budget. This is why I circle back to this every single week, but even more so in depth at the end of every single month because now I have an exact list of priorities in which I'll be focusing on or we will be focusing on, Zach and I will both be focusing on throughout May.
Let's have a little look at what we've got coming up for May. I just know May is going to be a beautiful month. It is Mother's Day. It's starting to cool down here in Australia. [sighs] I finally feel like after such a weird, wild, wacky start to 2026. March started to feel good again. April was beautiful and May is just really going to be the the cherry on top. So, let's go through what I'm working towards in May. As we always do, starting at the top with personal goals, I have two of those. Personal goal number one is to finish setting up my office. So, at the moment, I do not have like a little storage unit, like a little storage container or drawers or anything. And I really need it because all my little knickknacks, like my stationery, my wet wipes, my tea bags, my little cords and chargers, they're in a bag hanging off my chair. I look like a little homeless person. So, that's what I'm going to do. I want to set up the rest of the office. Get like a beautiful little armchair in there as well as like a little storage container or like a little storage unit. The second goal again underneath personal is very related to the fact that I'm now in an office and I really want to find my work/home routine. As someone who has worked solely from home, 2 weeks in to being in an office, I really feel like my routine has had like a complete doover. I can't be doing washing all day throughout the day because I'm in the office. I am on the road by like 8:30 getting to the office for a 9:00, 9:30 start. So, my morning routine has had to have a little bit of like aj. Same with my nighttime routine. You know, when I was working from home, I would clock off work and then just laz around on the couch and like catch up on social media and whatever. But now I'm getting home and I'm getting stuck straight into dinner and like, you know, prepping the dogs and getting their food ready. And it's actually such a beautiful circuit breaker. It's been a bit of a slap in the face that I've got to like find my feet again when it comes to routine, but it's like really it's really like spiced up the life, if you will. It feels really, really exciting and fresh. So, I'm excited to find my momentum and my feet again when it comes to now a home and office routine. Okay. So, my health and wellness goal for May is to continue my acupuncture. Super simple, just to make sure that I'm on top of that nervous system regulation. I am loving my acupuncture appointment. It's more so to just stay on top of making sure everything's flowing goodly in the body.
My nervous system is catered for. And what I do in my session, it's for an hour session. I obviously get poked and prodded with needles, but I use that opportunity to just meditate. I just lie there, allow the therapist to do what she's doing and put the needles in, and I just focus on my breath for an entire hour. And it is such a beautiful way to kind of like switch off and reset the brain. I strategically book my appointments as late as I possibly can.
So, like one of the last appointments in the afternoon, it's typically around like 5:30. I'm out of there at 6:30, come home to cook dinner because my husband's the goat, and then I just roll straight into bed, and I have the best sleep of my life. So, I really really want to stay on top on top of that acupuncture career goals for May. And it's very very similar to my last personal goal, which was to find my home and office routine. I really want to find my new weekly workflow. So, what I mean by that is I'm now changing up the days in which I do my content, the days in which I do my podcast, you know, the days that I actually go into the office versus when I stay home. I haven't yet nailed that. was still playing with it a little bit and finding what works, but I'm eager to find my new workflow cuz I think it's really really going to benefit me in the long run. Making sure that my, you know, I'm ahead of the game at least 2 weeks at a time for content.
Making sure that quality is always there. I'm consistent. I'm not falling behind. I've got that momentum.
I'm [snorts] excited. Now, financial goals. I really want to remove or reduce some business related subscriptions. And it is currently the 30th of April. So it's the final day of April. And I can confirm I've already started this. So I have already gone ahead and removed some unused apps that I pay for in my Shopify, which is my website. I've also gone ahead and unsubscribed from unused subscriptions. Anything that I'm paying like top plan for that I don't necessarily need, I've reverted back.
any contractors that I don't need anymore. Any unnecessary spend that is just like lingering in the business, I don't need it. I don't want it. And we're saying goodbye to it. I'll circle back in in our next reset to let you guys know how I go with that. But so far, we're already halfway there. So, let's get into the May budget. [singing] Okay. So, there are just four paydays for both Zach and I in May. So, we've got a little bit less money to work with, but we'll make it work. Let's kick off with bills. They are always the same. Our subscriptions and our memberships are always the same. You guys know the drill. Now, let's have a look at our expenses. I have budgeted for $1,200 for the month of May. That will be about four grocery shops at around $300. We'll see how we go. I have budgeted a little bit more for eating out for May only because Zach and I are going to Melbourne in the second week of May to watch one of our best friends bite actually. So that'll be fun. And you can't go to Melbourne and not spend money on the food and the coffee there.
So I have adjusted our eating out budget a little bit more. We may not spend that much to be completely honest with you, but we'll see how we go. We are only there for 2 days. You'll have actually given a big fat zero because I'm not sending any more money off your I don't I don't think I need to. Once again, Zach usually does all the driving and the fuel because he can claim it all on tax for like business. That's what he does. I don't need any more clothes. I have budgeted $50 for beauty cuz I do need some more setting spray, but I'm just going to get like a drugstore one.
I'm not a snob when it comes to setting spray. I don't even know if they really work. Just saying. $85 for Zach's grooming just in case he's accidentally put those charges on our card instead of his business card. I'll cross check with him to see whether that was a mistake.
But anyway, pets $250. We shouldn't be spending any more than that on their food per month. Yeah, we'll see how we go. Health, $100. Nothing on home.
Nothing on cleaner. $100 for presents cuz it is Mother's Day coming up soon.
My brother and I always typically go half split down the middle. So, we'll get her something nice. Nothing for entertainment. Transport is zero. $200 for miscellaneous just in case. I've actually budgeted expenses to be a little bit more than usual, especially eating out and coffee only because I don't want to worry about money when it comes to our Melbourne weekend. I don't even want to say Melbourne trip. We're literally for 2 days, but Zach and I love to we love to eat. Go. So, because expenses are in hindsight going to be a little bit more than usual and we are only working with four paydays in May, I can't put as much into savings and debt for May, but that's fine. So, travel $750. My little personal loan will put another $750 and then I've put the remaining $275 into our emergency fund.
That emergency fund is well and truly loaded, but we'll always continue to put more money in there until we hit our goal. And if we go all the way over to our financial overview, we have 39 cents remaining for the month. So this is what I mean. We give every single penny we earn a purpose there. It is very highly likely that Zach will pay himself and potentially earn additional income this month. You can see from the past two resets, he has either paid himself more every single week or he's earned a little bit extra cash one random week throughout the month. So this really is our bare minimum. Anything else we both earn or both bring in from the business into our joint accounts, we will then divvy up accordingly. It'll probably go towards our savings or our debt. That is the May reset. We didn't have the best financial month in April. Lots of spending, lots of life hiccups, but that's all part of the fun. Am I right?
As I said, I'm just so glad that we do this every single week and every single month so [music] that nothing comes as a surprise. We have everything catered for. And even if life happens and we have those life hiccups like my nana getting ill and us going to Brisbane every single week and buying more food on the road cuz you've got to eat, we have the funds to do that because we are in control. We know exactly where to take it from. We know exactly where to pull it from and we know exactly how to get back on the bandwagon when we need to, which is end of month in preparation for a brand new month. I hope you guys have the most beautiful month ahead.
Thank you for joining along for another successful monthly reset. I will see you in our next one for June. Thank you so much. I love you so much. I'll see you in my next video.
Hey, hey, hey.
